Thanks for responding! I PB some-- usually because I have eaten too fast. Why I cannot get it through my head to slow down BEFORE the pain hits is beyond me. As long as I eat slow, I will not PB or slime. I was banded 12/28/06, first fill was 2/14/06, and had no restriction until 3/30/06 on my 2nd fill. So I never even knew what PBing or sliming was until the last couple of months. I have lost 27lbs since my surgery, but the process is slow going and would like to have more restriction with foods that I shouldn't eat-- and speed up the process. My only apprehention to this is what if I tighten up, and can STILL eat the chips-- then I would stay where I was and just try harder on my diet. I already workout 5 mornings per week, I am just very weak when it comes to staying on a diet. I like to eat what I want- which is what got me here in the first place. Anyway, thanks again Liz. If anyone else out there has a similar situation, I would appreciate your input- thanks. Kelly

Hello all-- I have had my 2nd fill on 3/31/06 (2cc total) and at first, I was very restricted and started losing at 2lbs per week. Now my restrictions are just sometimes, like in the mornings and some afternoons, and then I can eat well at dinner. The problem is that my weight loss is slowing to like 0.5 lbs per week. Also, (and I know I am not supposed to eat these) if I get tighter, will my ability to eat chips diminish? I swear I can eat chips and salsa just like before I was banded-- again, I know you shouldn't eat them-- but I was just wondering if that would go away too. I am such a food addict that I need pain to prevent me from eating some things. Any info would be most helpful. Thanks, Kelly

When did your fills really start to work for you?
miboyer replied to NJChick's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello-- I just had my first fill (1 cc) on 2/13/06. So far, I feel a little more restricted, but not much-- mostly when I eat too fast. I read where a lot of you don't feel restricted until like 1-2 weeks after. How is this possible? I mean, you get the fill- shouldn't it be instantaneous? I do not get this-- can someone clue me in on why this happens? Kelly -
Thanks so much for responding. I called my surgeon's office and the nurse said more than likely the chicken was stuck and irritated the stoma when going down. Apparently bleeding when this happens is not uncommon. Anyway I have been sipping on water all afternoon and will be taking it easy! I NEVER want to experience that again! Kelly

Hello all-- OK, I was eating some chicken for lunch, and I may have swallowed some bites that were too big- so I got the intense pain-- but this time it kept coming in waves, and the pain was more intense, so I drank some water- which made it worse. Then I started vomiting a bit-- just Water though- but then there was some blood in it, so I was a bit scared I damaged something and almost went to the ER, but then the pains calmed down, and now they are gone. About 20 min later I drank some water which went down OK-- Has anyone else aggravated their band this way? I need some feedback. Kelly:sick

Hello all! I have some questions regarding the fills. After you get a fill, do you have more problems getting down things than before- or do you just get full quicker. I am having some problems with meat which I really don't want since it is hard to do low carb without it, but on the other hand, I feel like I can consume more than I should be able to. Like, I can eat 2 eggs and 1 piece of toast in the morning, and I am not overly full. Plus, I only stay full for 3-4 hours. I told my surgeon this at my first post-op visit, and she acted like I was just being a hog and I should only need 3 oz of food at one sitting ( I might add that she is a twig). I got this band because I have a problem with hunger and overeating-- HELLO-- does she think I just did it for fun? Anyway, she is telling me that I should try and lose weight without any fills, but my whole thing is that if I am overly hungry then I am going to eat. So, back to my original question- what happens after the fill. (BTW-- my surgeon deals more with gastric bypass patients) Thanks, Kelly :hungry:

I was soooo hungry since surgery-- so I called my nutritionist and she said that I could eat almost anything as long as it was chopped up small and I chewed real well. Well-- you can imagine-- I was in ecstasy!!!!!! Oh- I learned the hard way NOT to take big bites, and to chew REAL well-- the pain in my chest about killed me. But, all liquids go right through me. I weaned myself off of diet pop before surgery so I don't want to ever go back to that. Bread is fine with me- as long as I take small bites. The thing that bothers me is meat. If it is in soup, or some sort of gravy so it is really moist, then I am fine-- but if it is dry, then even the smallest bite hurts- no matter how long I chew.

Thanks so much for all of your suggestions-- It is so helpful talking to people that have been through the same experience. Kelly

Hello- I am new here-- just banded 12/28/05. I have been reading your posts for the past 3 months though. Hungry all the time and HATE this full liquid phase- but from some of your posts it looks like I am not alone. Kelly

I was just banded on 12/28/05---3 days ago and I have been hungry since the day after surgery. I drink my Protein shakes, but nothing keeps my hunger down longer than 2 hours. I have been on full liquids as instructed since the surgery, but I want to cheat really bad. I really didn't expect to be this hungry after surgery- although part of it is probably just the fact that I am not ALLOWED to eat. Anyway- what is the shortest amount of time that someone has been allowed to move up to "mushies"-- (I am assuming mushies include some textures like noodles or something). I did lose 4 lbs since yesterday though- probably Water, but at least the scale is moving in the right direction. Kelly

Hello-- This is my first post, although I have been reading your posts for the past 3 months or so. I was just banded on 12/28/05. The only day I wasn't hungry was the day I had surgery. My doc put me on full liquids right from the start, but they do not fill me up for very long- 2 hours max. I feel like I am actually consuming MORE calories because I am putting something in my mouth like every 2 hours-- although I did lose 4lbs since yesterday- so something is working.
