Perspectives on Losing Fast & Slow

I am sightly disappointed about my slow weight loss. I am a month out and have lost about 22lbs so far since surgery but 41 since I actually started the process. What isn't disappointing though is all the benefits I have received since losing that 41lbs. I recently went to Greece to recuperate from the surgery for 11 days and I immediately noticed lots of things that put a smile on my face. The seats on the airplane were nowhere near as tight, I was able to turn over on the sunbeds without problems, this used to be such a struggle for me. I was able to lay on my back on a sunbed without automatically feeling that tightness in my throat that made me aware that if I fell asleep on the bed I would snore, huge difference! Walking for miles when before I could literally walk half a mile and then have to lean on something to stop the backache. I might be losing slow but I really don't care, the improvement this surgery has already given me is enough compensation.

    The Numbers Are Adding Up

Well I am almost 3 weeks out of surgery and have lost about 16lbs so far but 35 since I started the journey. I lost 13lbs in the first week and then was disappointed when I "only" lost 3lbs this week, daft I know!

    Non Scale Victories

We have an old fashioned bath that is narrower in the middle. I used to have to "lift" my hips over the middle bit to lay down in the bath, now, I just slide straight through the middle!

    Step 1 Diet-Need non-milk protein sources!

That is an amazing read! Has anyone given you feedback on whether the essential oil has worked for them to stave off hunger?

  6. Hi everyone, so thought I would post an update. It has been a week since my surgery but every day that passes brings me stronger health. I came through the surgery brilliantly and was up and walking about an hour after going back to the ward. After speaking to my surgeon, he said I had shrunk my liver very successfully and this was one of the main reasons I was doing so well after surgery. I know this must be true as my daughter had the same sleeve surgery two years ago and she was in agony after hers, on loads of pain medication and couldn't walk around or do anything for at least a week. I am so glad I followed the guidelines and didn't cheat, it has made a world of difference to my recovery. For anyone who is doing a preop at the moment, please seriously think about committing to it fully, you will be up and about after surgery a lot easier if you follow the plan to shrink your liver. I have been on a liquid diet for a week which hasn't been hard to do. The amount of water I can drink has improved dramatically as well. Each day I was able to take slightly larger amounts so my sipping actually is now real drinking, albeit slightly slower than I would normally, but still, a great improvement. I have had no hunger at all, still amazed by that! Today I get to eat puree, hurray! My first meal is going to be some liquefied scrambled egg and later on for tea, I will be having some mash with carrot and liver, blended, so excited! I got weighed today for the first time since surgery and I have lost 12lbs, gob smacked. Oh and just for the uk people, I am in the nineteens! I know this won't mean anything to our american friends as they weigh in lbs but it was a joy to see the scales saying 19 stone instead of 20 stone today!

  8. Hi fellow sleevers! My surgery went very well indeed. I was 2nd on the list so didn't have to wait all day and had surgery at 11.30am. My husband was more scared than I was, he was in tears bless him. Came round from surgery and had terrible pain from the gas they blow you up with but my lovely daughter came soon after and burped me like a baby by rubbing my back which eased it quite a bit. I was sick quite a few times to start with as they gave me some peppermint water to ease the gas and I took it too quickly so it all came back up, gross I know. I was very scared to actually drink anything as I could feel it going down and gurgling, strange sensation plus I was wary of vomiting again but that has eased off now. I had very little pain which really surprised me, my daughter had the same op two years ago and couldn't get out of bed for two days so I assumed it would be the same, evidently not. I was able to get up and walk about a bit which I think also helped with the gas situation. Overnight they kept coming to take my blood pressure and temps so didn't sleep much. Saw the doctor this morning who said I had successfully shrunk my liver and that's why surgery went so well, so glad I stuck to it! They said I could go home today as I was feeling so much better so I came home this afternoon with my husband. I have only just figured out how much I can take into my mouth at one time, more than a sip but less than a gulp if that makes sense! I had to figure that out on my own lol. The thought of food is nauseating at the moment and I can't even think about having my usual cup of tea so I am just drinking water. I have the protein powder but can't face it, will it do much damage if I delay it a couple of days?
  9. My daughter rubbed my back and I kept burping like a baby immediately after my surgery on the 14/5. It eased it immensely and I felt so much better, get your partner or a family member to rub your back

CALLING ALL 2 WEEK PRE-OP DIETERS.

Hi Laura, out of interest, what is your bmi?
  12. I have been eating too much of course! I went to see him and he has now put me on the waiting list and says I have been granted funding. They aim to do the surgery within 18 weeks he said but he also thinks it will be a lot sooner. I went to see the dietician again and she showed me the pre op diet. I think I might be able to do it but it will take a lot of will power! How did you do on the preop?
  13. I have my consultation tomorrow with the surgeon, eek! Scared that I may have put on a couple of pounds which might go against me? I am in West Yorkshire...

Hi, I am in Yorkshire near Leeds. My journey has been, 12 weeks with a group, learnt nothing that I didn't already know, lost nothing. Referred for surgery but that wasn't that important to them as they moved me to another 12 week class which was more intense, with people who had weight issues but not necessarily seeking surgery. I had to lose 5% which I did and then had to go back once a month to get weighed. If I was still at 5% loss at that stage, she put me forward to see someone else, a lady at the hospital but in the weightloss department, don't think it was the dietician. After she weighed me again, she said I would then be put forward for an appointment with the consultant and would then be under the care of the bariatrics team and no longer with the weightloss program. I am just worrying that my answers to their questions will be the wrong ones! They have previously asked if I had depression, I didn't know how to answer this. I have been depressed over my weight but I don't want to come over as unstable lol so not sure how to answer it. Then again, it might go in my favour, no idea! They have asked me previously if I fall asleep in the afternoon's or while watching tv, I do, but don't know if that's a good or bad sign, at a loss really and don't want to muck it up...

Hi, I am seeing the nhs consultant tomorrow after a very long road to get here. I was on a weightloss program for 6 months which failed so they sent me to the more intense one in preparation for the sleeve. I have managed to lose the 5% they require but I am also worried that by losing it, I will no longer qualify! I am just scared I will stuff it up somehow by answering his questions with the wrong answers! I really need this surgery, am extremely overweight and unable to lose it any other way. Can anyone advise if they have gone through the same thing and what actually happens in the interview?
