It has been one week since I was banded and all is well. I go to the hospital today to begin an exercise program. I have not had any vomiting or sliming. Today I get to start on oatmeal, cream of wheat, cottage cheese, applesauce, mashed potatoes, pureed meats and peas along with the full liquids. What a "gourmet" menu but it sounds good to me. My left side is still quite sore and I cannot decide where my port is yet. the other three incisions have never hurt at all. I seem to have some internal burping when I think I am full. It is all so new that I really don't even know what I am feeling most of time. I also have some coughing after I eat that I take as a sign to quit eating or drinking. I am anxious to get on the scale at the hospital this afternoon to see what I have lost. My scale says I am down 9 lbs.

Janet, Hope you had a nice weekend! I am feeling much better today and it seems (as you said) each day gets a little better. Tomorrow I begin an exercise program that is part of the lapband process provided by the hospital where I had my surgery. I am looking forward to going and stepping of the scale where it all began. My scale says 9 lbs already. I am excited and pumped--what a great feeling after feeling so down and fat for so long.

Tightness when not even eating??
kjillcarr replied to Ebeth0013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on June 10th and have/had the same sharp pains in chest and back. Dr said it is gas. It will gradually get better as the gas works it way out of your system. I use maximum strength gas-x gel pills and also the strips and they really help. Give it some time. -
Ever feel its not worth it?

I was banded on June 10th and for the first two days I was surprised it hurt so much. It is a lot better today. My worst pain is on my left side and in my chest. Hang in there--it will get better and you will be glad you got banded. -
Carlene-I got your friend request and I would love to have you as a friend. I think I got on your list. I am a type two diabetic and was taking 4 pills a day plus 5 different meds. My family doctor has just changed my diabetic medicine to only 2 now. My goal is to get off as many as I can. This is my 4th day post-op and am doing better each day. I am having a hard time eating all that I should--I am not hungry. I did venture outside today and went to one of my grandsons baseball games. I have 5 grandkids and they are all very good at sports. I was happy to be feeling good enough to go to the game today. It was pretty hot and after the game was over I was ready to head for home, the couch and air conditioning. Thanks to everyone who has responded to my concerns about having a fever. Another question--did any of you have a cough after surgery?

I got my band this past Tuesday and I am on my way to a healthier life. I am 62 and a diabetic, high blood pressure, etc. I had my surgery at 8:30 and was leaving at 1 p.m. I spent the first two nights at my daughters (she is an RN so I had a private nurse--it was very comforting). I had a lot of pain on my left side and in my chest and between my shoulder blades and still have some. It is all slowly getting better. I am not having any trouble doing the full liquid diet. I seem to have a slight cough and a slight fever. I feel OK but a little tired, I have been walking a little to clear the gas pains but other than that everything is great

Is it normal to have a low grade fever--I know my doctor said to call his office it if went over 101.4 but it hasn't got that high--has anyone had a fever the first few of days.
-
I am here at home relaxing. I havehad a lot of pain on my left side--port area--more than I expected. I also had to remain in recovery a little longer than normal as my oxygen level was too low. After that was resolved I went for a regular x-ray. This is to be used as a reference if any issues arise in the future. I had a lot of pain in my chest/sternum area and have been coughing a lot-that is causing even more pain in my left side. Ran a fever for two days but it is down today. The doctor said everything went perfect. My daughter is a RN so I stayed at her house for two nights (it was nice having my own private nurse) and came home yesterday afternoon. I am not hungry and have to keep telling myself to drink or sip. I am happily looking forward to the rest of my life.

Hi Janet, I head for the hospital tomorrow morning--need to be there at 6 am. I am excited and a little nervous. Since I have already gone throught the pre-op process and was ready to enter the operating room a couple of weeks ago (before they decided to postpone it for some more tests) I know what to expect this time--at least up to entering the operating room. I got a scale from Target and a couple of the small bowls. Do your small bowls equate to one cup clear to the top? I have a bunch of liquids stuff stockpiled and been testing a few to see if I like them or not. My daughter is a RN so I will be staying with her the first night. Thanks for all your encouragement!!!

I meant I am NOW looking for a good weight scale.

Hi Janet, Thanks for checking on me. This is the fourth day of my semi-liquid pre-op diet. I am doing ok--a little headache and a little nausea. The dailyplate website is a terrific help to me. I am struggling to get all the Water in but I have always had a problem with water. I found these Kelloggs Special k2o Protein water mixes that have 5g of protein and 5g of Fiber when you use it with a bottle of water. They come in different flavors and even in pre-mixed bottles. They are somthing I am trying to use to get protein and water at the same time. I also got me a food scale and I am not looking for a good weight scale--any suggestions. Tuesday is fast approaching and I am getting more excited each day. i am really happy in a way that my surgery got post-poned for these two weeks as I looked up with you and I have found more tools to use to be successful.

Hi Janet, I went to the DailyPlate and started my food diary. I was really inpressed with the site and what it has to offer. I have already begun to realize how important it is to keep this food diary. Thanks for pointing me in that direction. Also, I have made it through my first day of semi-liquids--without a problem. I seem to gain motivation each day knowing you are there encouraging me on. Thanks so much for being my "buddy".:cursing:

I figured the ticker thing out for now. Thanks a lot. And thanks again for the motivational comments. Last night I attended a LAP BAND support group meeting that dealt with PS (Body Contouring) and boy was it eye-opening. Not only is the surgery expensive and major but it is gross. I hope I never have to have any--but my arms will probably look terrible if I don't. They are flabby and I haven't even had the surgery or lost any weight. This is the best decision I have made to have the Lap Band now instead of later when I would probably be even more overweight.
-
IndioGirl55, I went to the ticker site you gave me and it is a closed thread and I couldn't get the tutorial. I can get to TickerFactory.com and design a ticker and then I don't know what to do in order to get it to the lapband site. I started my semi-liquid diet this morning as I have my surgery next Tuesday. I am very motivated as you have helped me to be more optimistic and to realize I CAN do this.

How did you get your ticker on your replies--I cannot figure it out. Jill -
How do you get your ticker tape item on your responses. I went to tickerfactory.com and made one but I don't know how to put it on my answers. I know it is probably easy as nearly everyone seems to have one. Jill:confused:

Did you have to have any plastic surgery after your lapband for any extra skin or did the exercise help tighten any skin. My arms are flabby now and I won't have the lapband until the 10th. I know exercise is extremely important. I am concerned about my knees and feet making exercise more difficult.
-
I have heard the word "sliming". I don't understand what that is--do you know what it is and is it common? Jill
-
Thanks so much. I will get to eat liquids, raw veggies, cottage cheese, yogurt--it isn't so bad--it is just there seems to always be some dinner invitation or social event to have to deal with--I guess I need to learn how to deal with these kind of events now rather than later. Jill

I have been looking for a buddy/ies throughout this website--you answered my prayers. I was scheduled for May 27th but it didn't happen-right before I was to go into surgery the doctor didn't like something on one the post-op tests and decided I needed a couple more tests. All is ok and now I am scheduled for June 10th. I get to eat a little more this week and then back on the mostly liquid diet on June 3. Tt was a real disappointment this past Tuesday but now I am resigned to believe it was in my best interests to have the other tests. How did you stay on the pre-op diet and not cheat at all--I am so worried that my liver won't shrink down as it is supposed to prior to surgery. I am 5'6" and 253 lbs. I have a medical necessity approval due to diabetes, high blood pressure and other issues. I want to be successful but I don't have a big support group--my daughters are helpful but I don't have any sisiters and my parents are deceased--my husband is not much help either--a few friends know but they have their own lives. So I may need your help--so thanks for offering:tt1:!!! Jill

I have been using HMR protein shakes for 3 years and I really like them. They come in vanilla and chocolate and also in lactose free. I mix them with all sorts of things like the sugar free Torani and DaVinci syrups that come in several flavors. I mix chocolate with coffee. I put frozen fruit in with it and blend. Your options are unlimited. My favorite is the vanilla mixed with sugar free coconut syrup, and frozen pineapple. I add a packet of Splenda and sometimes even surgar free jello powder or sugar free jello pudding powder. I am scheduled for June 10th and looking forward very much to the rest of my life. You can find HMR, Torani and DaVinci online--just google the name. Jill
