Chronic Nausea--No Medical Reason
krosevf30 replied to Arizona25's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I suffer from GERD - which is the main reason I had the surgery. Right now I am still taking Protonix (heartburn med) which is a little disappointing because I thought I would be able to get off of it after surgery. I also struggle with a lot of nausea - especially if I eat or drink too fast, or eat any kind of animal protein. Dairy can also be tricky - I limit this to small amounts per week. I noticed that instead of heartburn, I get nauseous, so I agree with those who say stay on some kind of medication Altough a lot of doctors say to eat 3 meals and don't snack - I have to eat differently. I eat a small breakfast, mid morning snack, Lunch, afternoon snack, then dinner. Everything in small quantities. It will get better and yes, it can still be frustrating but in the end it's worth it! You just have to find what works for you. Sent from my VS501 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Anyone doing medical tourism?
krosevf30 replied to JaneBingley's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I had a great experience there. Every doctor, nurse, and hospital personnel I encountered were extremely curteous and professional. My room was clean, and quiet (unlike our noisy hospitals here in the US). My husband was able to stay with me in the room the entire time (including overnight). Finding the courage to get gastric sleeve done in Mexico with a BMI of 33

Do your research and then show your husband. Get the medical backgrounds on the drs you are considering, check their credentials. I'm sure my husband would be willing to correspond with yours to answer any questions. Sent from my VS501 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Finding the courage to get gastric sleeve done in Mexico with a BMI of 33
krosevf30 replied to newlifeat41's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I had vsg with Dr. Lopez-Corvala in May 2017. My BMI was 32. I had the same thoughts - would I really go to Mexico for surgery? Well I did and it was the best experience ever!! I chose Dr. Corvala because of his outstanding reputation and the fact that the surgery would be at a full scale hospital, not a surgery center. Dr. Corvala has excellent credentials and I highly recomnend him. My brother had vsg here in the U.S. and honestly, I got better care in Mexico. My brother spent one night in the hospital, I spent three (I checked in the night before surgery). Let me know if you have any questions I can answer. Will I always feel nauseous?
krosevf30 replied to SallyH's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I dealt with this and really struggled and then realized I was trying to add too many different foods at once - I had spent so much time planning my liquid, pureed and solid foods but turned out I could only tolerate a few in each stage. I had to scale back and stuck to protein shakes alot, applesauce, sugarfree chocolate pudding (I added protein powder), mashed zucchini. Each time I got to the next food stage, I would pick 2-3 foods at the most. My dr. also had me stay on my acid reflux meds for a month or two after surgery. Good luck !! My stomach makes wierd gurgling noise when I eat soup (taking in liqiiuds with solids). My coworkers named it "Chewbaca" because that's exactly what it sounds like! Sent from my VS501 using BariatricPal mobile app

Struggling... Am I doing this all wrong?
krosevf30 replied to time_2_shine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow your post bought back memories! I was so anxious to move on to each next stage but I struggled each time. I finally realized I was trying too many new foods at once. So I picked one or two foods and stuck to those only. Cream of wheat, chocolate pudding with protein powder mixed in, these were lifesavers. Same thing when I transitioned to full foods - I made a cheeseburger casserole and it was too much too soon. It is a slow process and can be very discouraging. I was told to take as long as I needed at each stage. Sent from my VS501 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Grocery store blues....
krosevf30 replied to WildcatGirl71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I miss soda - have not had one drop since my vsg last May. A word of caution - sugar free is not always the best selection. I finally bought a Yonanas machine so I can make my own sorbets. I've found that while eating whole foods (beans, lentils, potatoes, etc) fill me up quickly, things like sweets, ice-cream, chips, etc seem to go down way too easy. I have to really be conscious not to eat these Sent from my VS501 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Anyone with a low BMI (30-33) had sleeve surgery or will be?
krosevf30 replied to SD123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my BMI was 33 - so my insurance (Kaiser) would not cover it. I decided to have my surgery in Mexico with Dr. Lopez-Corvala. My father had a triple bypass, my brother had a massive heart attack at 48 (thankfully survived) and my other brother had diabetes. When I was younger, I worked out at a gym 6 days a week and managed my weight that way. Now I am 59 - and have tried unsuccessfully to lose 60 lbs for many years. only my family knows I had the surgery, for two reasons 1) I didn't want to hear "you weren't that big, you could have lost it on your own" and 2) you went to Mexico?!!! It was the best decision I made. Sadly, when I was in Mexico, my younger sister got very ill from obesity related disease, and passed away the week I returned. That confirmed that I definitely made the right decision. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using BariatricPal mobile app -
I am feeling great. I highly recommend Dr.Corvala and my dr. here in the US looked at my surgery records (I asked Dr. Corvala's office to email them to me) and said everything looked fine. I got my meds at the hospital pharmacy, it was just easier. I tipped the driver $20 from airport to hospital, and $30 from hospital back to airport because it took forever to go through the border crossing. Good luck on your surgery.

I went to Tijuana in May and had my surgery with Dr. Corvala at Hospital Angeles. I felt very safe in the hospital and my husband stayed in my room the entire time (there was a futon type bed). We entered and exited Mexico in the "medical tourism" lane at the border crossing. There were several places to eat across from the hospital, but other than that my husband was not real comfortable outside the hospital. Not necessarily unsafe, just not comfortable. Dr. Corvala's office provided our driver from San Diego airport to the hospital and back across the border to go home Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using BariatricPal mobile app

Ready 4a Change/Green and Health Hospital - Tijuana

I don't know about that hospital but I had my vsg done by Dr. Juan Lopez-Corvala at Hospital Angeles in Tijuana. I highly recommend him. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using BariatricPal mobile app -
I was sleeved by Dr. Juan Lopez-Corvala. The doctors and nursing staff at Hospital Angeles were absolutely phenomenal. Dr. Lopez visited at least 2 times per day and his coordinator, Bibi Maal was available for whatever I needed. The hardest part for me is getting all my medications down. I had to switch one of the meds I was on previously from a sustained release from to a regular tab and crush it. BLAHHH tastes gross. Other than that I am healing well. Just have to push myself to get up and walk around because I'm tired, physically and emotionally. Truthfully, I did have a bout of "what the hell did I do" but then reminded myself of what a better life I'm going to have and I will be able to enjoy food in a healthy way in the future. I'm having surgery in Mexico with Dr. Lopez-Corvala. My goal is to get rid of my GERD that I've had for 20 years and of course lose many pounds!! I don't have a special pre-op diet but I'm definitely going to cut out high carbs and fatty foods to prepare - probably do liquids for the week prior. I'm happy my husband gets to stay in the hospital with me the entire time. Nervous, excited and ready!
