4 months out and falling off wagon
sanks51 replied to mamamareli's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is really hard at times, my week has been a little up the creek. Here's what helped me: I reminded myself of my success so far and the fact I'm only halfway through my journey. On the recommendation of two other vets, I have upped my fats in the morning and prior to exercise. So maybe like half an avocado with my boiled egg, today I had coconut oil in my porridge.. (Waiting for my order of steel oats to arrive.. So normal porridge for a change), I tried a protein shake as my snack.. With peanut butter. So just tiny things like that. My personal trainer always tells me there is no point in busting my butt at the gym and then eating badly!! It's not just a case of calories in and calories out.. We need to fuel our bodies with good calories. He also tells me exercise is 20% and nutrition is 80%.. This means we have to have a sound food base.. This journey was never going to be easy but don't get down on yourself. This for me tends to start a self destructive spiral. Ok I ate whatever but my next meals today are gonna be 100% on target!! This is your journey and I know it's cliche but you are captain of your ship., steer yourself out those rough seas so you can enjoy the beauty of the calm. It's alternative but hypnotherapy has really helped me with forming intelligent relationships with food, making sensible eating choices, eating only when I'm hungry etc etc. I do appreciate it's not for everyone. Good luck at getting back on track! -
Yes I too hope that the roads are safe enough for you to use, to enable you to have your surgery as planned.

The odd NSV's of a Paramedic
sanks51 replied to Richard Foor's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
That's a great read thanks!! One of my favourite of your NSV's were the veins.. I'm a phlebotomist and when I did my training no one could feel or find my veins.. They were very well hidden.. Now I've lost 100lbs I too can't stop prodding and poking my nice 'new' prominent veins!! Amazing achievements! Well done! -
About 18mos out - HUNGRY and STALLED
sanks51 replied to BABEwiththePOWER's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Thanks Lynda and Fiddleman for your valuable input. I look to bulk cook for the week as I work crazy hours, so that's a plus. My steel oaty things have been dispatched so I should have them sooner or later. Re: the fat in the morning.. Would coconut oil in the porridge have the same benefit? Many thanks. -

If I wore makeup to the gym I would look like the bride of Dracula as it started to slip off my face along with my sweat!!

At first I used to worry.. I mean 397lbs on the cross trainer or rowing machine?? And then I just had a light bulb moment and thought ' I actually don't care what anybody else thinks of me' at least I'm in the gym!! A poster above said there are three types of people in the gym and I definitely agree. Some are so preoccupied that they don't notice the world around them.. Once I get going I'm like that.. I don't take any notice of who else is in the gym, and the fat on my thighs wobbles and my butt jiggles and my boobs.. Well what's left of them... My sports bra doesn't seem to do its job.. But I just carry on regardless!! So good luck!! Just be selfish in the process and think of yourself

I do a Kettlebell class twice a week and three times I week I see a personal trainer. We are working on strength training and functional movements, getting my mobility improved!! I really wouldn't mind if I got a cross addiction to exercise (lol!!)... I also do spinning occasionally, and very occasionally cardio - but I find it so boring It's hard to tell in isolation what exercise works best as in the last 7 months I've consistently lost. Also I don't weigh everyday so as of now I've not had a stall or I maybe have, but just haven't noticed one. I think any exercise that you can manage is great. With such a huge variety and choice there is definitely something out there for everyone!! I would love to swim more, but most of the pools here in the UK are indoor and I always end up with a cold or something.. So I'm looking forward to swimming on my holiday in Turkey in two weeks - in the sea and lakes.. I'm 293lbs currently. Walking is great too, so keep going but I can highly recommend weights too.. They change your body shape incredibly!! Good Luck!!

Yes it's delicious indeed. I have both the flavours, I would like to get my hands on the organic bottle but unfortunately it's only available in USA. I add it to my unflavoured protein shake, tastes just like I'm drinking peanut butter. The chocolate one has made me feel nauseous on one or two occasions but nothing serious or that I couldn't deal with. Didn't put me off either! I ordered mine off amazon.co.uk

Different opinions should be valued in the analysis of life experiences! With age (don't kill me) comes a wisdom of past experiences and with youth comes dreams -
