How long from First appt until surgery?
FabNFit@40 replied to riemgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My insurance requires a 6 months supervised diet, I attended a seminar in March, 1st appointment with surgeon was in April. I'm just 3 months in on the supervised diet and in between this time I have had pysch evaluation, EGD, go for sleep study this week. I will complete the 6 months in September and praying the insurance approves would like to have the surgery in Oct/November if at all possible. So I'm looking at 7-8 months from initial consult to possible surgery day. -
Discouraged after initial consult Low BMI woes
FabNFit@40 replied to GassyGurl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in a similar situation, as my NUT doesn't want me to lose no more than 8 pounds. I have already lost 3 of those eight. I have no comorbidities and I just barely meet the BMI requirements for my insurance. I have a sleep study scheduled in 2weeks -kind of hoping I have sleep apnea but at the same time I don't since I really don't want to use a CPap machine. I have slacked off at the gym just so I can maintain my weight for now. But in the meantime, I'm getting back into meal preps and trying my best to stick to a low carb diet. I still have 4 more months of supervised diet. -

No, I have worked in HR before and unless the doctor writes the type of surgery(most use medical codes) in your FMLA paperwork, they will not know.

Looking for starters of the process surgery likely fall 2017
FabNFit@40 replied to rebel_belle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started the process in March with. I had my1st appointment with my surgeon on 4/26, go for occupational therapy evaluation tomorrow and H Pylori test on Friday along with my 3rd appointment with nutritionist. I have to have EGD which is scheduled towards the end of this month, sleep study scheduled for next month. I still have to schedule the psych evaluation. My insurance requires 6 months supervised diet so I should be done by Sept and hoping to have approval and surgery by late Oct/Nov time frame. I am so nervous because my nutritionist is afraid if I lose to much my insurance will not approve my surgery since I have no comorbidity. I'm healthy fat. No HP, diabetes, good cholesterol, unless the sleep study determines I have sleep apnea, I have to maintain a 40 BMI. -
Awesome, good luck. I just started so I'm hoping if all goes well, I can get approved have the surgery by the end of the year

I'm a newbie, just had my consult with my surgeon yesterday. I have told only 2 people, one is a close friend who just happens to be my co-worker and the other a trusted family member who I will rely on to get home from hospital after surgery. I had a co-worker who had the sleeve done last year and the entire facility knew, they constantly talk and criticize. I just think it is my business and plan to keep it that way. They are so nosey, one even asked what was my doctor appointment for when I returned to work. smh

Do you know if they require a 3 year weight history with BMI of 35 with a comorbidity or over 40 with out to qualify?
