Chewable or liquid works just as well. Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app -
HOLY COW! Is this Dumping?
GassyGurl replied to Little Kansas Kitty's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Sounds like dumping, but mine is usually related to the amount of a certain item. More item=more dumping, less = not as much dumping. Yours sounds like a severe episode, from something atypical. I have never seen anyone report dumping from vitamins. For me, its liquids or some carbs. For some its fats. Vitamins don't seem to fit the typical profile, but who knows? Can you take 1 am and 1pm? Also for me, I can eat the same thing 10 days in row and dump 1 time. I am almost 11 months and can't pin it down all the time. Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app -

GassyGurl replied to apositivelife4me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums

Purée days - how do you get enough protein?
GassyGurl replied to ValerieLynn's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
all plans are different. on my plan, during purees we could have any meat except red meat and chicken breast. I ate ground turkey, ground chicken, and canned chicken, plus I could have eaten tuna. My plan also started purees on day 3. -
Purée days - how do you get enough protein?
GassyGurl replied to ValerieLynn's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I ate buffalo chicken dip, ricotta bake, pimento cheese and yogurt. Google for recipes. Everything was already soft, so I didn't puree. I just chewed, and chewed. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app -
I needed a letter to return to work, and my surgeon said 'write it and I will sign it'. I faxed it, and he signed it. Perhaps this might work for you? Write it up, send it to the coordinator for their signature. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

High blood sugar .. still
GassyGurl replied to laurileet's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was pre-diabetic before surgery, and am still pre-diabetic 10 months later. My Dr blamed it on genetics. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Did they give you a vitamin sheet with how mu h of each vitamin you need? That's what my surgeon did. They said a high potency multi vitamin (I use 2 Flintstones complete for 200% rda), then extra b complex, D, b12, calcium, and iron. They suggested brands that meet all the requirements, but I like my regimen. More small pills to take/chew, but I have seen too many complain about the huge nasty all 1 one bariatric varieties. So far so good for me, except vitamin D. But I'm taking 3x what they recommend, so we will see what happens. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

Endoscopy- is it a must-do?
GassyGurl replied to Lizaboo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was self pay and didn't have to get one. Out of 3 surgeons I did a consult with, only 1 required it. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app -
I am adding two pics. The white scars are from last August. The new cut is from Monday when I had my gallbladder out. He put new holes next to old holes so they'd blend in. Once the glue falls off, I'm going to try to use silicone sheets to try to avoid the hypopigmentation. Our plastic surgeon recommended it. Good luck! Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

It's not allowed on our plan till pretty far out, once we have reached goal. Then we can have 1 fruit per day, after protein and veggies. I can't eat it, as it causes dumping. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

They had me pee right before surgery. They said if I couldn't go right before, then they would use a cath in surgery. Luckily, no problems, so I never needed the cath. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

6 days post op ds surgery
GassyGurl replied to NewLife125's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I left the hospital 8lbs heavier. They pump so much fluid in us, but it should come off fairly quick. I think mine took 5 days to come back down. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Pain Pump and Blood Thinners
GassyGurl replied to michelle0721's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had pain pump in the hospital, and blood thinner shots. That was hospital policy,, not my surgeons. Once I was discharged, my surgeon told me I didn't need blood thinner shots, due to my lower bmi. I did have a rx for Norco when I got home. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Gain weight to qualify?
GassyGurl replied to kittydream's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Also check if you can lose during preop. I was 35.5, and if I dropped down below 35 bmi at any point, I wouldn't be covered. I couldn't imagine how I was supposed to do 4 months of a supervised diet and not lose more than 2lbs. Some say it's the consultation weight thats used, but mu insurance looked at them all. Oh, I hope you don't experience dumping. Tomato soup does it to some of us. That seems like a terrible choice for them to serve you. Hopefully you're fever is down, BP back up and you're on your way home soon. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

I received no pain medicine until I was settled in my room, and checked out by the nurse. When I woke up, I asked,"what type of pain meds am I on? I don't feel any pain", and the nurse said "none". In the room, I got morphine pump, and IV tylenol. I used the morphine only when the nurse put stuff in my IV. I am not sure which med was so brutal, but it had me in tears every time the nurse put it in the Iv. I rated my post op pain at a 2, but I could have said 0 or 1. Everything was discontinued the next morning, and they had me take a Norco on the way out the door. All my Dr's told me up for t what their practice is, so I wasn't surprised. Gain weight to qualify?
GassyGurl replied to kittydream's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Does your insurance have a weight history rule? I had to have 2 years of a qualify bmi. I had 4 out of 5, but a few healthier months in 2016 ruined it all for me. NOT COVERED! Ugh, so I paid out of pocket. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Pre Op Physical Question (female)
GassyGurl replied to Alee.J's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One other thing. While my PCP does the pap test, she doesn't do an actual pelvic exam. I don't know if it's just her, or if times/clinical guidelines have changed. But it's been much simpler (less probing) the past few years compared to when I was younger. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Bleeding Gastric Ulcer

Returning to work? How soon? (Gastric Sleeve)
GassyGurl replied to lbug's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a desk job, and short term disability that covered my salary. I took 4 weeks, and wish I had taken 6. Not because I had a difficult recovery, but because it was nice to have time to learn new habits and focus on ME. It was fantastic. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app -
VSG with Hiatal Herinia Repair - A little concerned...
GassyGurl replied to BigMike83's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a huge hernia, where my stomach was bulging and stuck up through my diaphragm. All the surgeon does is pull it back down, and tighten the diaphragm with a few stitches. It's easy peasy for them. My recovery was flawless. No pain, no nausea. Etc. My surgeon told me it's not possible to even feel it. Tightness comes from swelling and overall trauma to the area, not the actual hernia repair. He described how new sleeves are swollen and the inside is about as big as a pencil at first. He basically said who has ever had the sleeve with hernia repair, and the sleeve without a hernia repair, and was able to compare the two? Probably no one. If two people have different experiences, it's probably not the hernia repair that makes their experience different. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Pre Op Physical Question (female)
GassyGurl replied to Alee.J's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't need one as part of my surgical requirements, but I have had Pcp's who were pretty adamant about getting it done every 2 years. I could see where a PCP might hesitate to provide medical clearance without complete information, but there are plenty who will deem it not relevant and provide clearance. All surgeons will probably ask the date of your last checkup. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app -
8 days post HELP ME PLEASE
GassyGurl replied to eso0402's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Regular Gatorade is not recommended, as it's full of sugar. G2 still has too much. Propel, powerade zero, and mio are much better options. Keep trying! Hopefully you find something that works for you and you will feel better soon. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Some questions regarding GERD...
GassyGurl replied to AchieveGoals's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had Gerd, and took meds daily and slept elevated. During surgery, they found a type Ii hernia and fixed it. Now, I take pepcid (otc normal dose) daily, and have occasional heartburn. Sometimes after eating, for which I use tums. It's much better now than before. I'm 10 months out from my sleeve surgery. No regrets! Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app
