Dietitian talking me out of the lapband, should I listen?
Carrie_C replied to OllieGator's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
She shouldn't be trying to talk you out of it. There are people who fail, but there are also many people who succeed. There are many examples of people here who have lost hundreds of pounds. People can fail at any WLS. I have seen many people lose weight with gastric bypass only to regain it back. -
My vitamin D levels have been low as well, so I started taking a calcium supplement (in addition to my regualr multivitamins) with vitamin D in it as well. I buy the chewable generic ones from walgreens. 2 tablets have 1200mg calcium and 800IU's of vitamin D.

Do You Still Have Your Gall Bladder?
Carrie_C replied to mslynn's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had mine out 3 years ago, long before I got the band. I am fat, but not 40. I was only 27. But it runs in my family. My sister was 17, and she's not fat and doesn't fit into any of those risk factors. I didn't have stones, mine just wasn't working at all and was full of sludge. I was sick for years before I finally found a doctor to figure out what was wrong with me. -
Thanks! I am going to pick some Biotin up at Walmart. Are you breaking the pills or taking them whole? Is anyone drinking any protein shakes to see it helps? I don't really like them, but I started drinking them today hoping it would help. I had my surgery in May and I just strated noticing it a week or so ago. It really sucks!

It's very thick saliva that comes up when something is stuck. I'm not exactly sure what causes it, but it can be pretty gross.

Just leaning over a sink can help me sometimes, especially if I am sliming. Other than that, you just have to wait it out.

I have all of those symptoms except for the facial hair. I have to go to the gyno soon anyway, so I am going to ask about it. But I have heard the treatment is birth control pills, and I'm already on those, so I don't know if there is any help for me. PS Does anyone else think this needs to be moved to the powder room?

Hi everyone. I am in the process of getting the Lap Band approved through Cigna. I went for a surgical consult a few weeks ago. They told me that Cigna requires a 6 month physician supervised diet, I had done that already last year. They also told me that they require a letter of medical neccessity from my PCP, I have got that as well. I also have to attend a nutrition and psych evaluation. I have done the nutrition already and I go for the psych eval tomorrow. I am 30 years old, 5'6 and weigh 255 pounds. My BMI is 41. I also have diabetes as well as hypertension. I was just wondering how long it takes for Cigna to approve the surgery and if I am denied, how many times can I appeal? All of this insurance business is very confusing to me. I have already paid quite a bit for the consult and all the evaluations. If they deny me, I will be out all that money!

With everyone talking about PCOS I am wondering if I have it. I also have pain in my lower sides and I am losing very slow, a lot slower than others who had the surgery the same day as me. I also have a lot of mood swings. How do you know if you have it? Do they do an ultrasound?

You will most likely still be able to eat your favorite foods after being banded. I thought the same as you, and I had many 'last suppers'. But I can eat almost anything now, only in much smaller portions.
-
I don't think you're crazy either.
-
I know what you mean about it being a chore.
-
Do they make chewable or liquid Biotin?
-
I'm so sorry for your loss.

My surgery was approved, and I had it done May 22. I didn't have any luck getting financing for the coinsurance because of my credit. So my husband and I decided to take out a credit card in his name (he has much better credit than me, and was approved for it with no problem). That could be an option for you, I don't know. I am still paying on it, but it is so worth it.

Juice of love? LOL

Yes, I agree. I have been lucky and have only needed 2 fills, but I no longer have to stop at Mcdonanlds on my way home from work for a burger and fry. I don't even want to. And even if I did, I wouldn't be able to eat it because I can't eat bread!

I know, I never stood up for myself either. I would like to go back and tell those people who made fun of me where they can go!!

I think it would be neat to have it done, but do your nipples stay hard and show all the time? Can you see the hoop or barbell through your clothes?
-
And nothing, I was just sharing.

A woman I work with has her clitoris pierced.

Yes, I agree, high school was horrible! People say it was the best time of their lives! Whatever!!
-
I think they do that in all the shops, take it out and test it before you buy it. That way someone can't bring it back and say it doesn't work.

I always hated PE too. We always had to do stupid things, and I was never good at it either, and got made fun of. Plus they made us wear these ridiculous short shorts. We HAD to wear them. I wasn't fat then, but not skinny either. But I felt HUGE. I didn't have any self esteem. I used to forge notes from my Mom saying that I was sick and couldn't do PE that day! But then when I got to high school, they started a new thing where we could take aerobics instead of doing PE, so I did that. I loved it, because I was really good at it, and there were no boys in the class. Plus we got to wear our own shorts.

Want some opinions on pros and cons of lab band. Thinking about having it done

I have noticed a lot of people talking about hair loss, but I have actually had the opposite happen since my surgery, my hair is so much better! It looks shiny and healthy and it has grown quite a bit. Everyone has noticed. I don't know if it's because of all the protein I eat or because I started taking vitamins and calcium. Whatever the reason, I'm not complaining!
