  1. I guess it all depends on the surgeon's office, type of financing and how stars are shaped above your head In my case I got the date a month before the op day - before my pre-op checks with PCP, the surgeon and insurance clearance. During that month I got all checks, and my insurance clearance came 1 day before the surgery. Actually I was already expecting to have it postponed, but was amazingly lucky with my surgeon's office admin staff, who were pushing the insurance company almost every 2 hours
  2. Could that be psychological? Perhaps you are just too nervous about the upcoming surgery? If not, just change the brand and taste of your protein shake.

    Temptations

Temptations are great, as you're testing yourself. Remember, that after the surgery those feelings will go way - almost no hunger at all. A tiny stomach which won't fit more than 2 bites, and overeating will hurt a lot. BUT - in a few months you will be actually able to eat virtually anything you will see - from greasy chicken to a cake - just as much as your new stomach would fit. However, I doubt that you will want that It will be a brand new you!
  4. Perhaps a credit card is not the best option due to high rates. Try getting a customer loan instead, usually those have a better flat rate and much longer repayment periods (about 3-5 years). That won't stress you much. None of us have the best credit score, according to financial institutions but it really depends how BAD is your credit score!

    Pre Op Diet

enjoy your pre op diet, as you will miss it after the surgery During my pre-op I took a Premier Protein every 3 hours (9am-12pm-3pm-6pm). Now (1 month out) I can only sip 1/3 of a single shake before I literally explode!
  6. Totally fine - this might be a water and some bowel mass piling up. You will dump that in a couple of days for sure Don't check your scale on daily basis - do that once per week, on the same day, same time - just as jcb123 suggested.

    Urination Issue?

I have this issue as well, no idea why. My water intake is 60+ oz, but out is at max 15, concentrated. I'm not sweating, so no excessive liquids loss during the day. I can try drinking even more, but it could mean I have to skip foods to have room for more water Doc is in 1 month only...
  8. Could that be some bowel movement pains? I had some strange inner pains myself for a couple of days on my 3rd week, but those are gone with some substantial bowel movement

Am I too old to have VSG

In my support group there was a 75 year old man planning a sleeve. So age is not an issue, as the current surgical technologies are very advanced.

    How long were you out

2 weeks completely out and off, followed by 2 weeks working from home I’m lucky with my team and my boss, who are extremely supportive

    Sweet peas?!

It has more sugar and carbs, than protein. Not sure it is the best choice for an early post-op diet. But could be a good choice later )
  12. I’m 20 days out and I still have issues with eating. Can tolerate soft items, like cottage cheese or pudding , but more dance foods (puréed fish or refried beans) are no-no, causing pains, slimes and even vomit. So I assume this is very individual- all bodies are different, thus food reactions are different as well
  13. Leak is the most severe complication. To my knowledge it is accompanied by a terminal fever, terrible pains (10/10) and actually inability to do anything- even to call 911. What you are describing is a standard post-op situation, most likely caused by dehydration (as you’ve mentioned). Burping and other unpleasant things like gas and constipation are fine - just give your body some time. Here is the list of the most important things, in the order of importance: - liquids - do 64oz daily, even if you have to sip every 5 minutes - protein- do as many as you can, ideally in liquid form - walk and rest

Newbie, sleeved 3 days ago. Plz help

Exactly my thoughts:) I can feel your frustration. Don’t worry, that feeling will go away in a few days, maybe a week.

    Nsaids

My bad, sorry about that. I meant ulcers, of course

    Gallbladder

Not in my case. I just had a terrible pain all night long at my back, couldn’t sit. Took lots of NSAIDS with no success. Next morning I was at doc’s office, had Ultrasound and a surgery in a couple of of days.

    Nsaids

My doc said no NSAIDS for the rest of my life. I used to take ibuprofen as my primary painkiller. Now this is Tylenol. NSAIDS give some stomach erosion or even hernias, and after the WLS this is our "Achilles' heel"

    Gallbladder

I had my gallbladder removed a few years ago, long before the WLS, due to very restrictive diets. I'm 2.5 weeks out now and I think I start feeling some pains on the left side right under my ribs. It could be related probably to gall, as the post-op diet is quite restrictive and gall doesn't go freely from my liver. But this is just my guess, I'm not a doctor. Other than that, gallbladder removal sometimes causes a chronic diarrhea, especially if you get some fatty foods. No other issues so far.
  20. Enjoy until you can - I can no longer tolerate artificial sweeteners after the surgery have piles of shakes and protein waters, but can’t even look at them without feeling sick. Hopefully this is a temporary feature

    Compression garments?

It won’t help you to get rid of loose skin, but will eventually reduce flapping Just get a regular compression underwear and T-shirts - those bulky bands are very uncomfortable, won’t let you bend.

    Help.... I’m Freaking Out

I had the same issue with my insurance policy. Unfortunately you have to demo the ability to lose weight, otherwise they won’t approve. However, mid-checks don’t matter - but the final weight does. My NUT suggested to stay on pre-op diet 4-5 days before the final visit. That worked ok, my weight was lower than when I first checked into the program.
  23. I’ve been drinking my protein shakes with no issues during my pre-op diet. But unfortunately after the surgery I’m not really happy with them - not the best thing to sip. So I decided to make some smoothies with the shake: frozen berries, 1/5 of banana, 1/3 of banana Premier Protein (30g) and a fruit ninja blender. The result is very nice. Also I’m using chicken broth with some cream cheese added - it’s not so boring as a single broth.
  24. Tomorrow will be one week of VSG, feeling well so far. I feel no hunger at all, and simply force myself to put something into my stomach. I manage to meet my water goal of 64 oz/day, maybe even more (with a few sips of chicken broth every day). But I really fail to manage my protein goal - getting around 15g with my protein shake. I just can't force myself to drink more than 1/2 serving /day. I tried other protein supplements, but they are too sweet -- after the surgery all artificial sweeteners taste really bad. Once I'm allowed to go to the pureed phase, I think I'll be able to get some proteins through unsweetened real foods, like greek yogurts, meats or soups. But I still have to wait for about one more week. As a result, my current daily intake is about 200-250 cal. Is there any risks, like stalls or else, related to low calories? Could I keep my clear liquids diet for one more week without harming myself?
  25. Thank you so much - very valuable suggestions!
