Oh goodness yes, after my surgery I was so tired all the time - it lasted about 8 weeks. I thought I would never return to normal but of course I did. My surgeon said it had a lot to do with the anesthesia - it just took me a while to get over surgery but eventually, you will start feeling like yourself again. Rest when you can, it is okay. If it goes on too long, talk to your doctor.

Stall ... for almost a month ... so frustrating

I am in the same boat - surgery was 12/30/16 and the scale hasn't moved in over 6 weeks - it is so frustrating but I know I am doing all I should be (protein, water, exercise) - I appreciate the advice others have given here. -

Initial Age at Weight Loss Surgery Concerns
thatchbo replied to Gee1's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had the surgery just 2 months after my 53rd birthday. -
That is great news!!

That is a difficult question to answer because everyone is so different and it depends on so many factors, such as your beginning weight, your activity, etc. I have learned it is best to just focus day to day on following your doctor and nutritionist instructions and not comparing your loss to others. FTR - I did hit a stall at 4 months and I am still at the stall several weeks later but I know I am doing what I am supposed to be so I expect to get over that hump eventually. Good luck in your continued journey!

I'm going to talk about my poop now.
thatchbo replied to SassyScienceNerd's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Everyone is a bit different but I recall my dietician saying "liquid in, liquid out" I did pretty much have that problem until I was able to start eating more solid foods - then I had the opposite problem - but now that I am 5 months post-op, things seem to be fairly normal. -
I have really had an issue with this too...I bought a cushion that was supposed to help but didn't provide much relief.

Sure you can. Why wouldn't a 14 year - old be allowed in Mexico? Poor kid - to lose a parent so suddenly and at such a young age and then to be far from home - I can't imagine. -

Still in shock
thatchbo replied to FAT TWO FABULOUS's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sorry you have to wait but it is good they discovered your spleen problem. I read A LOT before my surgery to find out all I could and did read that sometimes they do find the spleen needs to be removed but often they remove and proceed with the surgery - sounds like you had a special case. Look at it this way....there is a reason - who knows why but you were not mean to have the sleeve that day. I am sure all will go well in July. Be patient (I guess you have to) and continue to work on your pre-op diet. Good luck to you. -

Family Reunion with Large Family
thatchbo replied to txsrooster's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can understand that, especially since many in your family have had WLS and not kept the weight off...However, learn from their mistakes...as you said, go to group meetings - they do help with the success. Also, just because your family has been down that road, doesn't mean you will - you can be the exception and example to your family. It is about making good choices and you can do it! -
I've had dizziness after surgery but not just this surgery. It happens to me after every surgery (I've had 4 in the last 2 years for various reasons) - it takes a few months for to go away, at least for me. My advice, get up and down slowly, avoid looking up. If it persist, see a doctor....sorry you are going through this - it is miserable!
-
Well...I did both. I have done just about every single diet in the world and I might lose some weight but of course I never kept it off. I never lost a significant amount of weight. When I made the decision to have WLS, my surgeon wanted my BMI to be lower and said I needed to lose 25 lbs so I did low carb (Atkins) and I did lose 25 lbs and I lost about another 20 lbs before the surgery. However, I was able to stick to it because I KNEW I had a goal and needed to lose the weight for the surgery. Had I not, I'm sure that after 6 months or so, I would have grown tired of low-carb and gone back to my old ways and gained the weight back. WLS not only helps you lose the weight - it helps you MAINTAIN it, which is something that doesn't occur with following a diet plan alone (in general). My suggestion to you is to consider WLS, talk to a surgeon and your primary care doctor about it and in the meantime, follow a low-carb diet. Good luck to you, whichever path you chose to take.

Has anyone kept it a secret?
thatchbo replied to VSG4Mag's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I chose not to tell anyone - except for 4 people - my mom, my sister, my 2 BFFs. I mainly decided this because I have tried to lose weight so many times and would share with others "I'm on Weight Watchers", "I'm trying this diet, I'm trying that diet" - etc and would constantly get asked "how much have you lost?", "how much do you want to lose", "can you eat that?" etc. I am just not at a point where I want to answer a million questions so I chose not to share. Eventually, when people start to notice, I may change my mind and tell them how I lost weight but for now, I keep ti quiet.
