Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
twinmommie replied to pennyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is finally my turn to post my experience. :frown: I arrived at the hospital at about 12:30 yesterday. I checked in and was immediately taken back to get into my gown and get my IV started. I was supposed to be taken to surgery at 2:45 but at 3:30 the surgeon came by to tell me that it would just be a few more minutes. The next thing I know I was being wheeled down the hall to the OR. There I met the anesthesiologist and he explained what he was going to do. He told me he was giving me some sleepy medicine and as hard as I tried to keep my eyes open...I couldn't  The surgery lasted about 40 minutes and I was in recovery. It went extremely well. Once I was in my room, I was still very sleepy. I would doze on and off for the next few hours. Finally I got up to sit in the chair, walk and use the restroom. I have to admit that surprisingly I have not had ANY pain or ANY gas pain. I am a bit tender in the stomach area but that is it. I have not had any pain medicine at all. The doctor gave me a prescription for Lortab but I don't think I am going to get it filled. I haven't needed it so far. I came home today around 2 (my sister brought me home from the hospital) and at 5, I was taking my son to his t-ball game. I did fine. I have to say that the soreness feels a lot better when I walk. If I sit for a while I get a little stiff. -
I am June 10th also. It is the wee hours of the morning...can't sleep, a little anxious, nervous etc. I guess. I am dying of thirst but can't have anything to drink since it is after midnight and I don't even have to be at the hospital until 12:30! Well, I will be thinking of you all! I am so ready to begin this journey!

Well...I took it and am still waiting. It wasn't bad at first but that aftertaste is NASTY! -
I am a teacher too!! I have my surgery tomorrow. So far I have lost about 26 pounds. Some people have noticed but I totally know where you are coming from. I want to look GREAT by the time school starts back too!!! Will be thinking of you.

Just put that behind you because there is nothing you can do about what has already happened. Be very disciplined for the next few days until your surgery. Exercise too.

That is so funny. My six year old boy twin could actually be an identical twin to my 15 year old!! Funny how that works out! -

Sorry to hear that today hasn't been that great for you! Hang in there. Have you been taking any prescription pain meds or just over the counter like Tylenol? What is giving you the most problem, the soreness or the gas or both? -
Anyone getting nervous? I am nervous and excited. Ready for it to be over with. I was supposed to have my last preop appt. today but it had to be rescheduled to tomorrow (yep a Saturday!) I was surprised at that. I am scared I haven't lost enough on my preop diet. I have lost about 6 or 7 pounds. Hopefully that is enough. My BMI is 43 so I just pray that my liver is not too large! But overall since November I have lost about 25 lbs.

Who's getting banded in June
twinmommie replied to To be free's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also had to lose 5% of my weight. I had six months to do it and did it in 5. It wasn't easy. My doctor didn't give me any kind of specific diet to follow so I just did a slimfast for breakfast and lunch and then a lite dinner most days. I did fall of the wagon sometimes but overall I kept to the same routine. Good Luck! -
Thanks for sharing. Congratulations on your weightloss!!!!

Who's getting banded in June
twinmommie replied to To be free's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am being banded on the 10th and I am like you starting to get a little more nervous as the date gets closer but one thing I do to relax and calm myself is come to this site and read and read and read. I also have been praying and thinking positive thoughts. You will do great. I think it is normal to be nervous. -
Finally.....Banded today

Glad to hear things went so well. I agree that when you have to wait for things like that it just makes your nerves go crazy! -
Who's getting banded in June
twinmommie replied to To be free's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on my preop diet and am counting down the days. I get banded on June 10th up to this point I was not really nervous and just somewhat excited but now I am getting butterflies from being nervous and excited. How is everyone else feeling? -
I have not been banded yet but that is the toughest time for me too. I am on Day 4 of my liquid diet and I am fine until I sit down to watch TV at about 9 or so. I know this is just a bad habit that I have developed and it is just a behavior I have to change.

Anyone else have to do OptiFast??
twinmommie replied to Ebeth0013's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so glad to get some pointers on how to make things taste better! This is day 3 for me on the preop diet of Optifast. The first day the shakes were horrible...but funny how on Day 3 they aren't nearly as bad. I can drink them now. The bars are ok and taste better if I put them in the refridgerator for a little bit. I haven't tried the soup yet. I haven't really been hungry though and I am grateful for that. -
Lost 8 Lbs In 2 Days
twinmommie replied to LeslieR041906's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am glad to know that is normal. Today is my third day on the liquid diet and I have lost 5 pounds! I figured it was water weight but hey I will take anything!! -
Jazzy Junes 2008...What do you do? Where are you from?
twinmommie replied to Apples2's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Jules, My preop diet consist of 7 Optifast products a day. But yesterday I couldn't do 7. I had 3 of the "shakes" and one bar. I didn't cheat at all so that is a milestone in itself...but the shakes are definitely an acquired taste!!! But I will have to say I woke up starving this morning so hopefully the shake will be delicious The after taste is what gets me. My sister (who is like a size 4) assures me that it will get better and it will be worth it! She is a great support!!!! Have a great day and keep in touch!
