Concerned about Energy and Complications
CharlyScott replied to Vivian Krueget's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello all I am 61 and got my sleeve 6/5/17. I will be honest I have had no complications. The first two days was not fun but I had just had major surgery. I have no regrets. My loss is slow and I am happy with that. I am more active with more energy each day. Yes the first two weeks was exhausting but now on my fifth week I couldn't ask for more. I started at 256 and today I am at 218. Stay away from the complications forum. It will only scare you. -

Jadeskys Please keep up posted on your progress. I am so sorry that the sleeve has not worked for you. I am still hoping that my sleeve will help with my fibro. I had my procedure on Monday so here is hoping. Take care and prayers. -
My surgery was yesterday and to be honest I'm ready to go home. I still have pain and the nausea but I can't believe how good I feel. I am excited and committed to my new life and better health.

Am I nervous, no anxious yes. My surgery was scheduled for 12:30 now 11:30. I am just ready to get it done. The liquid diet phase has been rough. We had a wedding to go to and I am proud to say I did not cheat. Today my husband smoked some awesome fish and I did not cheat. Yes I am patting myself on the back and I am very happy that I know I can handle this. Keep me in your prayers

June sleeve buddies?
CharlyScott replied to JustJulie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why are you having second thoughts? Do you think that you are not mentally prepared for the changes we will have to make? I had a hard time at first, but I feel that will all of the reading I have been doing and slowly getting things that I will need has helped me tremendously. I will be more than happy to be your sleeve buddy if you think that will help. Please understand I am an older lady (Just turned 61), but I am one heck of a listener, I became a first time mom at the age if 53 and not to just one but 2 little ones, I never seem to do what others my age do. Yes, I am trying to make a funny but rest assured I will be here if you need me. -

I have a lot of family and friend support but sometimes I like getting on here and reading what others are dealing with or if I can give someone else support. I am so glad that my surgeon suggested this site. I have learned and found out that I am not the only one going through this. -

Anyone in the St. Louis area?
CharlyScott replied to stlsleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am in between Quincy and Springfield. I am going to check and see what is in my area. I started out at Memorial with their program but on the advice of my insurance company I changed clinics. Long story on that one. CAL-GAL-IN-MO good luck with your surgery tomorrow. I will be praying for you and you will be in my thoughts. Just remember you've got this and you will succeed. -

Hubby says " you aren't the one that has to be attracted to you" ..., WHAT?
CharlyScott replied to Dknal2's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have been following you and have kept you in my prayers. I once was in your situation, because of my first husband I had to have a hysterectomy at the age of 25. He wanted to keep sharing certain things from his girlfriends. I left him. It was a lot of mental abuse. He has convinced me to go on a diet that his ex-wife did of eating just tuna three times a day. I was happy when I left and healed. My second husband was physical abuse and that I will not go into. My third husband has been wonderful and very supportive. I thank God for him every day. It is because of him that I became a first time mom at the age of 53 and today as I turn 61 he is right there by my side supporting the next step in my life of having the VSG done on June 5. What I am trying to say is to stay strong. You are stronger than what you know and you look wonderful. Most of all stay true to yourself and settle for nothing less, because you deserve it. If you need support we will be here for you and if you are on FB my screen name is the same. By the way, thank you for sharing your story. It has helped me to see where I have come from and where I am going. God bless. -

My journey is begining and a little rant
CharlyScott posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Tomorrow I will have my first appointment with my surgeon. To say that I am excited is an understatement. I made my decision 9 years ago to have the surgery done. I have been over weight my whole life except once when I was going through a very messy divorce. During the 9 years a lot has happened. I became a first time mom at the young age of 53 to not one but 2. No I did not give birth we are adopting. I had a complete hysterectomy at the age of 25 so being a mom was never on my list but I did pray for a child of my own. I know that my age may play a factor, but I want a better quality of life and I want to see my children graduate. My husband is very supportive and wants what is best for my health. I have dealt with fibromyalgia for the last 20 years plus I am watching my fasting blood sugar go up. Diabetes is huge in my family history and it scares me to see it go up. I had an appointment with another clinic and was informed that I would only qualify for their medical weight loss and not the surgical. I informed them of my choice (my BMI was 39.9) I went back 6 weeks later, I had quit smoking (I smoked for 45 years) and I gained 12 pounds in 5 weeks. The nurse practitioner Add to dictionary informed my that there was people that gained weight just to have surgery. My BMI was now 41.2 and again I stated I was wanting the surgery and she informed me that the surgeon would not do the surgery and I would have to wait another six months to even be considered. I was very upset when I left so I called my insurance company (my benefits had already been confirmed that this was a covered procedure). Did I ever get a surprise, not only did I have someone that would listen, they called the clinic asked if they had a problem explained what had happened and recommended that I look for another clinic and found one for me. Tomorrow is that appointment along with appointments with the physiologist and dietician. By the way the other clinic called this week to inform me of the different surgeries that are now available to me. Yes I feel like this is a long post but there is a lot on my mind today. -

Mine May 26 or June 5. I am really excited. I will find out tomorrow for sure. I am excited and committed to my new life and better health. -
I will be 61next month and I am waiting on my surgery date. I am wishing that I would have done this sooner but I am not regretting this decision of mine one bit. I have always been late in doing things. I became a first time mom at 53 to two beautiful children (I had to have a hysterectomy at the age of 25) I got my Harley last year for my birthday and this year is my VGS. My reason is to improve my health and to see these two rugrats grow up. I am glad to find this forum as I was starting to think I was the only one over 60 having this done.
