    Gastric Sleeve (VSG) AFTER 60

I had my sleeve done last year at 65. I also had my gall bladder removed and a hernia repair at the same time. I had no complications and took no narcotics after it. I will admit for a few days it felt as if I did a million sit-ups but after a couple of days all was well. I was worried that the surgeon might think I was too old but no, she never said a thing. I guess I was lucky in that I had no co-morbidities except the excess weight! For those reading this, don't let your age make you second guess the surgery!
  2. At my one week post op visit I was 9 pounds heavier. No one told me I might actually gain weight. My doctor asked why I even weighed myself. Rest assured it is temporary, now 10 and 1/2 months out I have lost over 100 pounds. It is not always easy but worth it in the end! The excess weight does come off, just stick with the ordered food plan
  3. I has a sleeve, hiatal hernia and gall bladder removal at the same time.... I took morphine once in the recovery room right after the surgery then no more... I only had IV Tylenol and Tylenol by mouth once I got home. Did it hurt? Sure but it was more like I did 1000 sit ups. It was not unbearable. I was back to work in 3 weeks but probably could have gone after two. Everyone experiences pain differently

9 Months out With Severe Constipation

You can keep the cost of miralax down by buying the generic which has the same ingredients but is less expensive. I also used miralax (generic) but I found it causes too much gas for me but it dos work. I add Fiberone Cereal in my Greek yogurt every morning. I also have a cup of Smooth Move tea which works for me and tastes good. I buy it in bulk from Amazon. If you want to try it first you might be able to find it at your grocery store, mine has it. If one cup doesn't work have a second cup in the evening. Good luck, I have had chronic constipation all my life which did not change after the surgery...
  5. Centrum chewables... orange flavor
  6. I never asked my surgeon or nutritionist for a goal nor did they ask me. I haven't set one. It will be whenever I feel comfortable. That might not be right for everyone but it is right for me

    Complication

So sorry to hear this from both of you..
  8. I think it is only in the beginning when your stomach is healing and still swollen.. The same concept as that you can only eat a very small amount in the beginning

    Dilemma

Glad to hear about Goodwill... Tomorrow I plan on giving them 9 huge contractor size bags of clothes that no longer fit me
  10. Oh my.... what a transformation so far... just think how you will look when you have completed your weight loss.... you go girl!
  11. I had my sleeve in March at 65 years old. I also had no co-morbidities except obesity. All my pre-op testing was normal. However, in my opinion, and apparently my insurance company's opinion, that was enough for them to pay for the surgery. It was probably just a matter of time before my body started to fall apart. Better to do it now before the medical issues start to appear. I have lost 89 pounds (a few in the couple of months waiting for the surgery) and have never felt better.... do it now, don't second guess yourself, you will be happy you did it.
  12. I am unsure why at your height and weight it is considered elective... Did you have a sleep study? If you turn out to have sleep apnea, which you might, it should not be considered elective. The other issue is if your insurance pays for any weight loss surgery, elective or not. Good luck. Most bariatric surgeon know how to work with insurance companies, if it is not elective it might make a difference

    Gained 2 pounds!!

water weight from the salty chips?
  14. I had my gall bladder removed when I had my sleeve. I had no gall bladder attacks (lucky) but during the pre-op workup they discovered huge gall stones so it was just a matter of time..... I had no complications
  15. I have also dyed my hair a few times since surgery...
