  1. I might be mistaken but part of the reason we have to chew well is because we have lost most of the churning portion of our stomach. It just goes right down now. The stomach has enzymes and it use to start digestion before the contents went into the small intestine....
  2. I had my sleeve in March at 65 years old..... I also had my gall bladder out and a hernia repair at the same time.... I have no co-morbidities except obesity. The only reason she also took my gall bladder out was because they saw large gall stones on my abdominal sonogram but they were not symptomatic. My cardiac stress test was also normal. I find it amazing that sometimes you can be so overweight but it doesn't show in other aspects of your health. I feel great and know that it was probably a matter of time before my blood pressure and glucose and everything else would start to fall apart. Don't look back or second guess yourself

    Complications

sorry to hear about your pain... I had my sleeve done, my gall bladder out and a hernia repair at the same time... mine went well with no major pain afterwards... hopefully you will find it isn't anything serious Good luck

    No energy, no motivation

Don't take this the wrong way but perhaps it is psychological... Maybe just mind over matter. If your program has a psychologist available why not go. Please don't take offence to what I said...
  5. I also use GenePro protein powder... it is tasteless and dissolves completely... just don't add it to really hot liquids. I buy mine from Amazon
  6. hmmm. I don't have an incision that looks like that.... All I have is a straight line, no suture holes. My was sewn underneath and the skin was closed with steri-strips. It is interesting how different surgeons are
  7. 2 weeks. I had to have 2 protein shakes a day and one meal of a lean meat like chicken and steamed vegetables. Or 3 protein shakes
  8. The first thing every morning..... I get up go into the bathroom, get undressed and weight myself.... It has never gone up more than 2 ounces and occasionally stays the same. The 2 ounces I don't attribute to a "weight gain". it always goes down the next day
  9. I bought my vitamins from Amazon, shop around there and read the reviews. I found them cheaper there than in a store. I have centrum chewables, a vitamin D chewable, a vitamin B12 sublingual and a chewable calcium wafer.
  10. I was given Prilosec for 1 month and then nothing. I never had any nausea at all. My vitamins are sublingual or chewable, I can take them all at once and again no nausea. It is amazing to me how different we all experience the same surgery. I also took no narcotic pain medication, just Tylenol. Three doses of IV Tylenol in the hospital and liquid Tylenol once I got home. I probably could have taken some but I didn't want it to stop me from getting up and moving. I am sure your nausea will subside soon... just hang in there
  11. Not a word about exercise, she was the psychologist for the bariatric program. All she said is that I have to show that I can lose some weight before the surgery. We never even discussed exercizee

    Baby Food?

I didn't eat baby food or pure anything. I did eat a lot of soup and used my immersion blender to smooth it all out. I couldn't stand the thought of pureed meat but some do and like it. Protein shakes, yogurt and soups for me

On my own on surgery day.

I sent my son home while I had surgery since I have a 90 year old mother at home. You will be sleeping a good deal of the time that day anyhow.... The surgeon called him after the surgery to let him know everything went ok and he came in later. I didn't see any sense in him visiting me in the recovery room, I slept. You will be fine...

    Drain and catheter?

I had my sleeve, my gall bladder out and a hernia repair at the same time and didn't have a catheter or a drain. I was gotten out of bed in the recovery room right after the surgery to go to the bathroom and I was up very frequently there after. My Iv was going at 150 cc an hour the whole time I was in the hospital. I had no issues not having the catheter or drain. What I didn't ask is if I had a catheter in the OR and perhaps it was taken out before I left the OR, that is possible. Not having the catheter gets you up and out of bed more frequently which is a good thing
  15. I had my sleeve done on 3/13 and I am just about the same as you.... While waiting for my surgery I actually lost 34 pounds. Since the surgery I have lost 25 pounds. I have been a bit disappointed with the lost post surgery but I attribute it to the fact that I lost those 34 pounds in the couple of months while waiting for my surgery date... My surgeon said I am right on target that I lost a good deal of weight in the past few months. We need to be thankful the weight is going down rather than up. And keep I'm mind we are all different and will lose differently Keep up the good work

    So tired!

I am almost 6 weeks out and it does get better... the first 3 or 4 weeks I was also very tired. Everything gets better every day... don't despair
  17. Yes, I guess they would rather pay when you get sick due to being overweight... it is a shame
  18. I can't help with you that... My insurance paid 100%. Best of luck, you won't regret it
  19. It can depend on your insurance. Some require 6 months supervised "dieting". Mine didn't but I dragged my feet a little. Since I didn't have a cardiologist, pulmonary MD and GI doc, I had to get appointments. Sometimes a first MD visit takes awhile since you are a new patient. My first visit with the surgeon was in October and the surgery was in March.
  20. I wore one hospital gown open in the back and one open in the front as a robe... I had the IV for the whole time I was there, it was not removed until I was discharged. I also didn't have a catheter at all unless it was in the OR and they removed it right away. As soon as I got to the recovery room they got me up and I walked to the bathroom.... and I continued to walk to the bathroom every 2 hours or so while I was there.. the IV was running at 150 an hour. Just remember to bring something comfortable to wear home... lounge pants or something like that
  21. I had my sleeve done, my gall bladder out and a hernia repair. I was supposed to stay one night but stayed 2 due to a snow storm. I could have gone home after one but I am secretly happy I was there the extra night. I could have managed at home since I opted not to take any narcotic pain medication but it was nice to have help getting out of bed if I needed it.
  22. Consider yourself lucky... I came home from the hospital almost 10 pounds heavier than when I went in. IV fluid did me in... It took almost a week for me to lose it.... Be patient, the weight will come off
