    Gastric sleeve time off work

I took 3 weeks off, in addition to the sleeve I had my gall bladder removed and a hernia repair at the same time. I could have gone back earlier but I was getting full pay so I took advantage of it.
  2. I had steri strips over my incisions and was told they would fall off

    Why can't we donate blood?

I donated blood all the time... I donated 1 month prior to my sleeve. At my 3 week post-op visit I asked if I could donate and the surgeon asked me to just wait until my 3 month visit to see my blood work.... She did not say I could not donate any longer

    IV Port

Not sure why a port would be an option unless they think this will be a chronic problem for you..... It should pass.... I hope you are soon feeling better
  7. I know many people who have had a sleeve and only 1 person who had a hematoma and had to be readmitted... it is rare but does happen. I am glad you are on the mend

    Cooking for kids again

I cooked every day starting 2 days after I got back home and it didn't bother me. I even brought home wings so my son could enjoy them while I drank a protein shake..... it Is just mind over matter and just because I can't eat doesn't mean I shouldn't cook for him. But I can understand we are all different

    Retaining water post surgery?

Yes... I was almost 10 pounds heavier when I weighed myself after getting home from the hospital... It will come off as you see. It doesn't happen to everyone but it is not uncommon

    Pain meds

I took one IV injection of dilaudid right after my surgery when I got to the recovery room and then no more. They automatically gave me 3 doses of IV Tylenol after that, and then nothing although I could have asked for it. I took nothing more than liquid Tylenol a couple of times after I got home. Sure it hurt somewhat but I wanted to be able to get up and walk around rather than sleep.

    Checking Weight

I weigh every day knowing that sometimes it stays the same but it does go down slowly... I have rarely gone up and if is does it is just 0.2 of a pound or so.
  14. I just ask to have them wrap up the food I didn't eat... I don't think I would be comfortable eating from the kid's menu

    Retaining water after surgery

The first time I weighed myself a couple of days after surgery I was almost 10 pounds up.... It comes off, don't worry
  17. I had my gall bladder out and a hernia repair at the same time as my sleeve. I had no gall bladder symptoms but the abdominal sonogram showed gall stones too large to pass. After the surgery she told me the stones were an inch and a half long and in addition I had polyps in the gall bladder, she said it had to come out. I had no issues with the surgery and recovery, I took no narcotic pain medication, no extra time in the hospital. I just have a 1 inch scar on the right side and a small one on the left, along with the regular puncture holes... all are barely visible and I am 2 months post-op. I have plenty of friends who had their gall bladder out months after the sleeve so if you have the opportunity to do it at the same time... do it
  18. While looking at protein bars today I saw Quest chips and thought I would try them.... 20 / 21 Gms protein, 2 net carbs, 0 sugar and 130 calories. I only bought 3 snack size bags in case I liked them, I don't want to eat them every day. I tried the cheddar ones and liked them... I suppose if I feel I really need a snack that these wouldn't be too bad considering the protein content. I don't plan on having them often. Anyone else try them?
  19. 8 weeks out, no nausea or vomiting, nothing seems to bother my stomach. Sometimes I wonder if I had a sleeve done at all but since I get full fast it is a reminder that I did have it done
  20. The day after my surgery I wondering what the hell I did to myself... it got better every day and in no time I was fine.... 8 weeks out and I have no regrets... it will get better
  21. scrambled eggs... cottage cheese... No issues

    Dizziness and Heart Rate

    all of the above
  23. I have not had any complications at all... no gerd, no pain... the only thing I wished I had known is that it is possible that when you go home you will be heavier than when you went into the hospital. Some people, me included, gain weight from the IV fluids. I was almost 10 pounds heavier and it was so disappointing. Yes, you lose it all but it was quite a shocker to me.
  24. I had what seems like all the tests and It did seem discouraging at first but I am happy I went through them all. I had no co-morbidities except moderate sleep apnea. I had an "at-home" sleep study, a pulmonary consult with pulmonary function tests and chest x-ray. A cardiac consult with echocardiogram and cardiac stress test. All the blood tests. An endoscopy, abdominal sonogram, lower extremity dopplers. The abdominal sonogram was good to have because it picked up very large gall stones which prompted my surgeon to remove the gall bladder at the same time. A psychologist evaluation, and met with the nutritionist. I did not have to have supervised weight loss but I was told I needed to show I could lose some weight while in the pre-op mode. Then I had to write my weight loss history and attend a nutrition and pre-op class. The best part, and I realize I am lucky. I didn't pay for any of these... my insurance paid for ALL the testing and fully covered the cost of the surgery and hospital stay. All I paid for were a couple of $40 co-pays for some of the MD visits. Everything was free as long as I used one of the hospitals in our health system. So I feel I am blessed and didn't mind the extensive work-up. I just don't understand those insurance companies that don't realize this surgery can be life saving.
