  1. So I am getting my surgery in a little over a month and am thrilled. I really want this to be as effective as possible and want to try to get to my goal in the shortest time possible. I am realistic but hopeful. So a few questions for those who are near or at their goal. 1. How much weight did you have to lose and how long did it take you to get there? 2. What have you found to be most effective things to do to lose the weight? excercise? certain foods? any good tips? etc? 3. Did you lose the most in the beginning, over time, when? Thanks for your imput. I hope one day I can give others advice when I get to my goals.

    What is ONEDERLAND?

Haha I always thought it meant you had lost 100 pounds...apparently not. Either way both are good.

    Pains in abdomen?

Hi. I was banded on 5/13 and had the same thing. I learned to kind of push in and hold that area when it was hurting and it seemed to ease the pain. Same thing...a bit below the port area and incision and only when I was standing. I asked my doctor at my post-op appointment and he said it is normal and that some people get it from time to time up to even a year later. Mine has mostly gone away but sometimes it feels a bit uncomfortable if I move a weird way or something. I think it is all due to the fact that they sew the port to your muscle. I wouldn't worry about it too much as it happens to many people from what I understand. If the pain persists badly though I would check with your doctor.

    Lotion & surgery area

At my one week post-op appointment my doc told me it was okay to use scar creams or cocoas butter or things like that. I have been using vitamin E cream every few days and my scars are healing very nicely. I wouldn't woory about what you use too muc nless it irritates it or you hvae open wounds still. Hope that helps.

    knot/lump in stomach

Are you sure its not just his port? The largest incision is where the port is placed and sometimes when bending a certian way or whatever I am told you can see and or feel it. I just got my surgery last week and I can feel my under the skin if I push around a bit.

    1st day on Pre-Op & I already cheated.

I was totally freaking out over this same thing and posted a similar question elsewhere. I am now a week out of surgery and everyhting went fine. My diet was a bit different though. I had protein shakes and 2 protein bars a day, then like broth, jello, popsicles, etc. But 2 other people in my office had the same surgery as me with the same docs and their diets were the same except the doc told them they could have non-starchy veggies like carrots bellpeppers, lettuce and onion sometimes too. I did that sometimes and also cheated pretty bad maybe 3 times(cinco de mayo taco, a cheeseburger, and a few bites of mcdonalds ) during the diet and I was still fine. I still lost 15 lbs on the pre-op diet. So I wouldn't worry too much. Not that I am saying you should cheat all the time but I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

Weigh in... how much have u lost?

Good topic! I am down 20 lbs including my 2 week pre-op diet and was banded on the 13th. I feel really good about it and I can't wait to see what else I will lose. :biggrin2:
  9. Hi! I was just banded on the 13th. I am down 20 lbs total since the beginning of my pre-op diet in which I lost 15. So I have lost 5 more this week on liquids. I have another week of liquids then I have 2 weeks of mushies then regular food. I am looking foward to mushies. haha. Glad you are doing well too.
  10. Ok so I know i shouldn't have, but I cheated on my liquid diet about half way through on cinco de mayo and ate some bad stuff. I have lost around 12 lbs still though and my surgery isn't until tuesday the 13th. But my question is...if you cheat...does it revert your liver back to before you started or is it as long as you lose weight you should be fine? Who has cheated and still been okay to get the surgery? Could the doctor tell and was it an issue? I'm not putting this here to be lectured. Just want to know if anyone knows about that. Thanks for helping with my peace of mind.

Need some help with this liquid diet

I am drinking these ones from Costco called Premier Nutrition Protein. They have 30 grams of protein and only 160 calories and and 1 gram of sugar and only 5 carbs. They aren't amazing but they are drinkable. I tend to chug them because i dotn really like protein shakes ever.

What do you wear at the pool?

Thats so funny how everybody's body is different, becaue I am a big girl and it usually fits me better than like Lane Bryant etc.....I think it depends on where you gain your weight and your proportions. I love Torrid. It is my favorite.

What do you wear at the pool?

Torrid has the cutest bathing suits...i love the tankinis with shorts. Torrid.com - Plus sizes - Product Categories - Swimwear Can't wait until i liek the way I look in a bathing suit but until then these are pretty darn cute.
  14. I have been heavy my whole life and although I have never struggled in friendships, I do feel it has affected me in my job and dating. I feel job wise that people assume you are lazy or don't have a professional look regardless of how you dress or present yourself. Our society is definitely one to show favortism to looks over intelligence often. When it comes to dating relationships, to be honest part of what I think affects that is my insecurities about being heavy, but overall can I really blame a guy for wanting a fit woman? No. Because do I find myself really attracted to heavy men? Not usually. Sure I might end up being attracted to them based on their personality, but the initial attraction is generally not there. I think it is the same for men. Yes, you can overcome the weight and see past it to the great personality but the initial attraction isn't always there. So I will be excited to see what happens when the weight comes off. I think I will become more confindent. I am confident in my personality and who I am, but it will be nice to be confident in my body as well.

    Introducing the May Bandsters

Hi ALL! My name is Molly and I am 26 and about to turn 27 on June 5th. I live in Orange County, CA and am so excited to get my lapband. I have been heavy since I was a kid and have just continued to go up and down for years, but mostly just up. I am currently at about 314 and hitting over 300 was a huge wake up call for me to do something NOW, not later. I want to do all the things that God has planned for my life with joy, energy and confidence. I never want to be held back in life, jobs, or love because of my weight. I feel like my life is going in a good direction. I own my own house, have great friends and family and 2 adorable dogs. I am happily very busy socially and through church. My job could be better, but I feel like it is moving in the right direction. All and all I am a happy and blessed person, but I feel like losing the weight once and for all will finally complete the puzzle and I will be able to fully live my life. I am so glad to have LBT and to have people who can support each other in this journey and really understand as opposed to just support. Go May Flowers!!!!!!!!!! wooohoooooo

    Final Name Poll

Mine is on May 13th too. It was just moved up from May 27th. I say the sooner the better.
  20. I tried this and it was fun....also if you have photoshop you could photoshop pics of yourself to make them smaller. This way it is actually your face and body.

    Soda - Is this dumb?

I totally felt the same way. I love all types of soda and I also love a good beer. My surgery is in the end of May and I am trying to cut back and plan to stop completely soon. I just have to keep picturing myself skinny. I actually know somebody without band and all they did was stop drinking soda and they lost a ton of weight so I think that makes me feel better too.
  22. Hi All! I have already posted at a few other threads but figured I should introduce myself on here as well. I am Molly and I am 26. I live in So. Cal and just got my band appointment for about 2 months form now and possibly sooner. I will be getting banded with Dr. Braverman and Dr. Quebbeman in Souther California at The New Program. I am thrilled and want to say reading this website was really the final push I needed to know I could do it. I think this is such a great support system. I loved looking through the page of before and after pics ALL 80 somehting pages and seeing people's progress. It was so encouraging. I can't wait to encourage others as I go through my journey as well. I also just started my own Weight Loss Blog at Smaller Body Bigger Life GO TEAM LAP BANDERS!!!!!! YAY!!!!
  23. I am almost the same exact size and weight as you and I am getting the lapband. The way I see it is, yes I may loose faster with gastric and possibly with less effort but once your body gets used to it, eventually they stop loosing and many have been shown to gain it back. At least with lapband you can continually have adjustments as needed to go along with your progress or lack there of. Once gastric is done it is done...no adjustments.

    My first negative reaction

Luckily for me, 2 other people I work with had the band and they have been super supportive along with mostly everyone I have told that I am going to get it. Of course there are the few who say things like you should just eat lesss and work out.......hello...I have tried that my whole life and it hasn't worked or the little bit it has, has come back plus more....the only thing that matters is how I feel about getting the surgery. I am so excited and know that I will finally be able to do it and keep it off. For me it is like the light at the end of the very difficult weight loss tunnel that I know if I work hard and do what I am supposed to do and work out, I WILL lose the weight and it WILL stay off for once in my life.
  25. Wow I make lists like this all the time to inspire myself to loose weight and this is the first time I truly actually feel like theses things will happen.(I'm in the beginning stages and ahven't had my surgery yet) -I want to fly without feeling uncomfortable and travel all over. -I want to go horseback riding again -I want to buy a wedding dress I love when I get married not just one that covers my fatty arms and fits -I want to shop wherever I want to for things besides accessories -I want to live a long life -I want to not constantly just think of all the things I would do if I was thin but actually truly do them and make a difference in this world! My hope for all of us is that we can remember this list when we are faced with temptation and that we can work our butts off to get to our goals!!! Go Us!!!!!!!
