  1. 9 weeks post op (Plication) and feeling great. I have lost just under 20kgs (41.8lbs) and am well over half way to my target weight. My kids bought me a Fitbit for my birthday which is really encouraging me to keep moving, doing around 5kms per day at a brisk pace and fitting into gym gear without feeling self conscious. When I get down to the last 10 kgs in a couple of weeks I think I'm going to have to start going to the gym and building some good muscle for core strength and I know the last few kgs will be tough to get off. I start back at Uni 1August and want to have reached my goal by then. I comfort eat when stressed and studying again after 30+ years will be stressful but if I've hit my goal I will be determined to keep it off. Here goes nothing!

Thanks Newme17 . How is everything going for you at the moment?

  2. Can anyone tell me what 'dumping' is please? See it in other posts and not sure what it is and if it applies to Plication Surgery.

Dumping mostly happens in Bypass surgery. When a patient eats sugary or greasy/fried foods, the body rejects it, making them feel very sick. It isn't harmful, but is a good deterrent against eating those types of foods.

Any March 2017 sleevers! Let's share info!

Remember that fluid leaves your stomach in around 5 minutes so you can have a few small mouthfuls of fluid every couple of minutes. It takes me about 20 mins to drink a cup of tea and I feel fine. If you are a gulper try using a straw, even for hot drinks, it really helps to slow you down. Don't forget to drink no less than half an hour before or after eating. If you drink too close to eating the fluid kind of dilutes the food in your stomach and causes it to leave the stomach too soon meaning you will not stay satisfied for as long as you should and your stomach won't have enough time to break it down for proper nutrient absorption. Good luck☕️🥛🥃

    Decaf coffee

Yes, definitely count it as part of your daily fluid but you must also count any calories/kjs in it.☕️
  7. 2 weeks post op, Strictly on 700-800 calories per day but not a single pound lost in 1 week. Is this normal?

I have read on a lot of medical sites that post-operative swelling is the cause, so don't despair yet.

      Are you getting enough water?

Thanks for the reassurance. I must admit I'm not drinking much water but then I figure all my shakes and soups are made with water. I'm too full to eat what I have to on the post op diet and then drink water as well. I also stopped the anti inflammatory suppositories the surgeon gave me because I feel fine but maybe I should start them up again. Weighed in this morning and finally made a loss, lost 1kg (2.2lbs) in 6 days, a little disappointing, but I'll take it. So that's 25.35lbs, (11.5kgs) in 4 weeks from start of my pre op period to 2 weeks post op. I suppose it was too good to be true to be losing at that rate and it has slowed down to a much more realistic rate. If I continue to lose 1kg per week it will take me 38 weeks to hit my goal. I can live with that.

    Pre op fail

Hi, sorry you're struggling with your pre op diet. I too cheated but made sure it was with raw veggies, salad or other v low cal items. I got bored with the shakes but I still lost 10lbs in my 12 day pre op period. I agree with Jacinta. I think you're self sabotaging so you can cancel your op. I would advise talking to your surgeon and if he thinks he can still go ahead, do it. You won't regret it and and it will turn your life around. Never again will you have to go through this battle with your conscience and will power on this scale ever again. Good luck
  9. No Poop for 7 days. Is it normal?

I'm 1 week post op Gastric Plication and apart from 1 teeny tiny bowel movement on day 4... NOTHING. Is this normal?  Anyone else found the same?

Your surgeon should advise you to use milk of magnesia.

I tried all sorts. MoM, benefibre, prune juice and on and on. The only thing that worked for me was ducolax. Still take it every now and again if I don't go for a few days.

Although I haven't gone, it doesn't really seem to be too much of a problem at the moment but I will definitely look into the options you guys suggest. Not sure if I can add anything at this stage but will call my surgeon and ask. Thanks girls.

    Best Weight Chart

I love that you respond to people's posts, it's very helpful for all of us as you have loads of experience and have done a fantastic job of losing weight. You have almost lost ME. I started at 198lbs! Looks like you're not far off hitting your goal so keep up the great work, you're totally inspiring.
  11. Day 6 post op Gastric Plication ...was a great day today.  No pain of any sort, more energy. Managed 2 walks around the block with husband and the dog, 2 hours lying in the beautiful Aussie sunshine, a few household chores, some light gardening, a nap and drank all the designated fluids...full seven hundred calories. Yay. Wanted to post to encourage others and also if I hit a bad day I can look back and remind myself it does get better. Onwards and upwards. Have a good day everyone.

    Surgery on Monday

Wow, not long now. You'll be great and will have no regrets, I'm sure. You sound like you have the exact right mind set to make a positive out of this. What surgery are you having? it still says 'undecided' on your profile. I'm 6 days post op from my Gastric Plication and am feeling great. No pain today, a couple of walks with my dog and husband, a couple of hours lying in the sun (sunny Australia) a few household chores... a really good day. You'll be feeling like this in no time too and will get a new boost in life. If you have any nerves, it's perfectly normal and understandable. If you didn't I might wonder if you hadn't researched enough, but as have you know it's not all roses It means you have made an informed decision to change your life. All the very best to you. Keep us posted, we're all here to cheer you on.

Glad to hear you're doing better. It would be so hard to stay hydrated if you can't keep anything down so it's really good that you can drink now. Good luck.

    Is Anyone Else On Optifast?

That's a good healthy way to look at it, that way you're not obsessing about numbers but more thinking about the process and what you're doing. When is your op scheduled for?

    Help please [emoji20]

Hi, I'm 4 days post op from gastric plication surgery. Days 1 and 2 were excruciating, Yesterday was painful and now day 4 has been heaps better. Every day I notice something or other easing and that I can do more. Just make sure that you take your meds religiously and try to keep hydrated. Moving around for a few minutes frequently throughout the day will help to expel the gas the surgeon puts inside you so he can pump you up and see what he's doing. That's been the worst pain for me but it is definitely going. Things will improve and you'll look back and realise it was all worth it. I think you have to try to take the view that this is something you have undertaken to drastically improve your life. The way I see it, even if the pain Is bad and maybe I have some restrictions with my food for ever this has got to be better than a life of feeling overlooked and lacking in confidence because of my weight, not to mention all the health issues I had started to develop (fatty liver, painful joints, blood pressure...) for me this is a means to an end. An end to poor health from obesity. I know it's hard and it feels like things will be bad for ever, but you have already done the hardest part- making the decision to have surgery and going through with it- so give yourself a big pat on the back and take a deep breath because you're strong enough to do this. Good luck.

    Is Anyone Else On Optifast?

Hi, yes I'm on Optifast too. I find the shakes very very sweet, (seem to have lost my sweet tooth post op, long may it last) so my dietitian has said I can drink any soup that is thin enough to go through a straw and it must have no lumps of pieces in it. It's made such a difference. I'm 5 days post op, gastric plication. How are you finding Optifast and how are you going generally?
  18. 5 days post plication op. I've lost another 2 kgs since yesterday, a total of 10kgs (22lbs) in 2.5 weeks including pre op diet period, so excited. I'm at 89 kgs (196lbs) with my goal weight being 70kgs (154lbs) Spoke to my dietitian about soups instead of shakes and she was very helpful. She's happy for me to eat any soup that is thin enough to drink through a straw with no lumps or pieces in it. This has made a huge difference because I seem to have lost my sweet tooth (hope it lasts) and was finding the overly sweet shakes hard going. Pain has subsided now with just the odd stomach twinge now and then. All incisions are looking good and pain free. Feeling very optimistic.
