Restarting Weight Loss after Honeymoon Phase
meltingmagnolia posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For those of you that didn’t reach your goal weight during the honeymoon phase (18-24 months after surgery), were any of you able to kickstart your weight loss later and drop the pounds? I lost lots of weight initially (100lbs.), but mostly maintained (or went up and down the same 5-10 lbs.) for the past year. I definitely haven’t been as strict with my diet and exercise during that time. I’m still about 25 pounds from my goal weight and don't want to give up on the dream. . Has anyone successfully met their goal later in the process? What made the difference for you to get it going again? -

Nausea on Pre-Op Liquid Diet
meltingmagnolia posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's day 7 and its been fine. I've done 5 days of full liquids and now I'm on the second day of clear liquids. I haven't even been that hungry and I haven't felt like I was going to die.....until this afternoon. I am so nauseous that I can't even hold Water down. What's up? Has that happened to anyone else? Does anyone have any suggestions or fixes? -

Little weight loss during pre op diet

I have the same surgery date! We only do a 10 day liquid diet (we are limited to 1 protein shake a day for the first 5 days and clear liquids after that), but I am on day 6. I think it has everything to do with how much water you were retaining before you began and how much water you are drinking to flush out the bloating. If you weren't retaining much, you don't lose as much. If you don't drink lots of water, you aren't getting rid of it. I was super bloated and hormonal when I began, so I had an initial drop. However, I got dehydrated, so the scale stopped moving. I pushed a ton of water yesterday and lost 6 pounds overnight. I can already tell that water will be my big challenge after surgery! -

This foodie wants pureed recipes!

My surgery is the 11th. Have you had issues with spices or seasoning? I was considering going ahead and making/freezing some things that both I and my family already love like butternut squash soup, crab bisque, or tomato bisque (I make all with coconut milk because we don't do well with dairy). I'm just not sure how well we can do with spices/seasonings. Have you successfully added unflavored protein powder to anything like mashed sweet potatoes/squash? How fine are you having to puree your tuna/chicken? -

I am about to have surgery and I am trying to prepare myself! I'm looking over my materials and the internet and I was hoping for a little help. I guess I am a little bit of a "foodie" and would like help identifying some recipes, food ideas and tips for adding rich flavor. I love to cook and love real, fresh ingredients. In general, I am not a person who is fond of processed foods, canned Soups, artificial sweeteners, etc. (no judgement if you do). I also need to limit my dairy. Bonus points for recipes that you have been able to successfully (and tastily) been able to add Protein to!

I used Mirena and the hormones just made me feel like I had PMS ALL THE TIME. I was on an emotional roller coaster. This is much more common than they admit. It happened to several friends and even my own OBGYN. I am not a great candidate for a copper IUD, so I cant speak to that one.

Hair Loss

I don't have my surgery until December 11th, but I am super lucky in this area because my hair stylist had gastric bypass and has mentally prepared me. She said take your vitamins, biotin and make sure you are getting your protein *she had me upping my intake long before)! She also assured me that it will grow back. I also found a collagen protein that dissolves in hot liquids that gets raves reviews for hair growth (reviewers even show pictures and say their gray hair has grown back in darker). -
I was MISERABLE on an IUD, but my doctor has put me on the Nuvaring that I have just begun. I haven't been on it long enough to determine how I feel about it yet. I am highly sensitive to hormones, so we will see...
