I like cottage cheese, but Triple Zero Oikos yogurt is so good and I think more protein than cottage cheese. It is not tart like a lot of Greek yogurt.

I waited 10 days. It was fine. I have to use lubricant anyhow because I had my ovaries out 5 years ago and am on hormone replacement.

Bcbs insurance anyone?
AZBlackhawk replied to Curiousme's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had bypass but I did have BCBS (of Illinois). It was pretty easy but I wonder if it depends on the plan you are on. I did not need a 3 month medical weight loss. I just had to document what I had tried in the past (weight watchers, Medifast, diet and exercise, etc). I was only frustrated bc it too a long time to get pre-approval - 3 business weeks! Then they mailed a letter to my surgeons office (snail mail). Once my surgeon received the pre-approval, then bcbs needed to give them pre-certification, which took another 3 business weeks. ***BCBS covered my surgery at 100% (hospital stay only) because I used a Blue Advantage center of excellence. Otherwise I would have paid my coinsurance. I still need to pay the surgeon and doctors, but it saved me a ton of money and I chose an amazing hospital/team to have the surgery. Call BCBS and talk to someone. They can help you. I called like 3 times before I went for a surgery consult with different questions. -
What's the best protein bar?
AZBlackhawk replied to lauratro's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I just tried a half of a Quest bar tonight. So good! Something different than a protien shake to meet protien requirements!! Mine I tried is 170 cal and 20 g protien and low net carbs. Half is all I need for a snack. So good!! -
First and last experience with dumping

What did you eat to make you dump? I'm so afraid of this. -

How much time in the hospital?
AZBlackhawk replied to neeseemcmeesee's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Had surgery Monday afternoon. My surgeon came in Tuesday At 4 pm and asked if I wanted to go home. I could have, but my husband had just left and had to get my kids to their activities. So two nights it was, which was fine for me. -
Post op night sweats and body getting very hot
AZBlackhawk replied to PokerGuy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Could it be hormones that are changing? Hormones are stored in fat and when we lose weight, hormones are released and can do these things. -
Don't give in to the head hunger!! I had RNY so a little different, but, stick with your surgeon's recommendations. Yes, it's boring, but what is the end goal? I agree with mixing your shakes with a little bit of fruit. I like shakes, convenient and fast and I've been using shakes for about 2 years one way or another. Call your surgeon's office and get an appointment with the NUT. Or psychologist. My surgeon's team keeps telling us to use them if we need them. Good luck.

Pictures of vitamins
AZBlackhawk replied to JealousMuch's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Not sure about liquid gels. I was able to take a normal size oblong pill day after surgery. They have to me in hospital for my depression. I also took Prilosec and Zyrtec day after ( given in hospital too). Started vitamins on day 7 post op all mine are chewable at the moment. I'll probably stick with chewable calcium (they taste good) but I'm going to switch to 3 multi vitamin tablets per day soon. I put my vitamins in a little container the night before and just bring it with me the following day. Iron and calcium cannot be taken within 2 hours of each other also, your body can only absorb 500 mg of calcium at a time. So, I take 5 vitamins at least 2 hours apart each day. I just wrote down when I take them which I found easier than setting an alarm to take them. I just make sure it's at least 2 hours apart for each one. I use Bariatric Advantage. -
A week post op, I was just getting off clears so my team told me not to worry about protien the first week. I was allowed soft foods starting week 2 but with food only, usually 2 oz at a time, here was no way I was going to get my protien without shakes. So I had 3 meals and 1-3 shakes per day. Inspire protien shakes are amazing. They are not thick and milky like other brands. Bariatric Eating on the web is where you can find them. So many flavors. Pomegranate is good, vanilla pineapple, etc. you can also get unflavored protien powder to put in soup or whatever. I don't have any recipes for you because I was allowed a lot of soft foods and meat (tuna, lunch meat, fish) that second week. Now protien and hydration and vitamins are crucial. Find a way to get the protien. Shakes are the only way I can. I had my RNY on 6/26/17.

When to start cardio in the gym
AZBlackhawk replied to dennisdj's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Absolutely you can start that. Just drink plenty of water and don't push yourself too hard. I began pretty rigorous cardio 2 weeks post op and walking before that. -
hi post-ops from a pre-op - having pre-op diet worries
AZBlackhawk replied to inphases's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with above posts. Give yourself a break. The WLS will be a HUGE motivator to not eat fast food again. I bet you won't even crave that stuff. I have lost cravings for chocolate and junk food. Not to mention dumping scares me. Before surgery, I was going great. In April I saw the surgeon and they were submitting everything. I was losing weight. Then I got frustrated because it was taking forever and my insurance was taking a month to get a pre approval. Yay! Nope. Then I was told another 3 business weeks to get a pre certification. I have to say, during that time, I began eating ice cream at night and junk during the day. I quickly stopped again once surgery was in sight. We all have bad habits, or we wouldn't be here. They just don't want you to gain weight during this pre op time. Today is another day! Good luck! -
When, oh when will I be able to sleep on my side again?
AZBlackhawk replied to alcn1derlnd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I slept on my side night 2 post op. I asked my surgeon and he said it was fine. Since about week 2 post op I sleep on my stomach. -

2 weeks post op- eating little, hard to get protein

I like squashed pea size amount. My NUT told me dime size but I'm never sure in thickness. That helps! -
2 weeks post op- eating little, hard to get protein
AZBlackhawk posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had my RNY on 6/26, so a little under two weeks post op. Doing great eating soft foods. I eat about 2 oz protein and 1 or less than 1 oz veg or fruit per meal. Shakes are my snacks )1/2 shake per snack). I am consuming about 400 cal per day. One day I was just under 60 g protein and a few other days I meet the protein requirement. I have only been getting 5-7 g of fiber. No doubt, I cannot even eat a full strawberry in one meal. Should I be worried? How am I supposed to get my fiber up eating so little in veg or fruit? Even protein is hard to get. I feel like I have to eat "fast" in 20 minutes to eat 2oz so I get all the protein. Mid this normal so early when I cannot eat much? -
Is Quinoa okay after RNY?

Tips needed-Hard to space meals, drinks
AZBlackhawk posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I'm just 8 days post RNY. started eating soft solids yesterday. I'm finding it hard to space meals and stop drinking 30 minutes before. For example, I meant to eat a meal at a certain time and forgot to stop drinking 30 min. before, so I had to push back mealtime. Then today, my husband is grilling and I anticipated it to be ready at 5:30 but now not ready until 6:00. I'm sure it will get easier, but any tips? -
That's great to hear. I feel like I take pretty normal drinks without problem.

Tips needed-Hard to space meals, drinks
AZBlackhawk replied to AZBlackhawk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My team says not to drink for 30 minutes before or after. They say if you drink before, it could fill up the pouch. They couldn't tell me how fast water empties from the pouch. 10-15 minutes would be so much easier before a meal to stop. I totally understand the 30 minutes after. -
Do you mean if you don't sip, but take big drinks? I'm no expert, just over a week post op, but was told it's just very uncomfortable. I've forgotten and taken a little bit bigger drinks, and nothing has happened, but haven't taken large gulps.

I just had surgery 2 days ago, RNY. I had pain but it was totally managed by pain meds they gave me. It was more pressure than pain. I never had pain reach 8 or 9. Usually I was about a 5-6. I was surprised that I didn't have more pain. Today, I even walked 9500 steps! Pain was no big deal for me! Thankful to say.
