  1. So today I saw my PCP and she gave me my clearance for my surgery. I also got my pre-op lab work done today. Tomorrow starts my 2 week pre-op diet of Optifast. I am so excited! Exactly 14 days till surgery! May 3rd can't come soon enough. Is anyone else early May and want to be buddies?
  2. I'm glad my post helped you! I think it is difficult for people to comprehend not being to eat whatever we want. But for us the benefits are what's really important. If you want private message me and we can keep in touch! I hope your surgery goes great!!!
  3. That would be great!
  4. Congrats on your surgery! It's right around the corner! I would love to have a buddy to go through this with. Do you have kik or hangouts?

    Starting to doubt

I am scheduled May 3rd. I have done a lot of research and switched surgeons because I wasn't happy with my first one. I started this whole process almost a year ago. I think that there are a lot of chances with this but you have to be in the right mind set and be committed to this kind of thing. For me I am fortunate to not have health issues besides being over weight. I'm just tired of not living life. This surgery is going to help me get my life back. The support group I go to has a lot of members and all of them said their only regret is not having it done sooner. I know the risks involved and my surgeon is amazing. He thinks everything should go great. Make a list of pros and cons. For me the cons couldn't compare to the pros. It's your choice and your body. I wish you the best! May 3rd can't come soon enough!
  6. I hope everything goes great with your surgery! I am actually doing better this 3rd day. I am down a total of 17.5 lbs since I have started this whole process and it's keeping me motivated. I'm just so excited for this journey to get under way! Keep in touch with how your doing and your progress!
  7. Today was my first day. I'm not loving the shakes or the soup much but the protein bars I'm allowed to have made it a bit better. Everyone else is having steaks tonight but I know this is all worth it! If I didn't drink all the water I have then I would probably be really hungry.
  8. Yes my approval came back within about a week after my surgeon submitted for it. I know some insurances take a bit longer though.
  9. I'm 27 years old, no kids and I have only told a select few that I am having the surgery. I also didn't want the negativity. My dad seems to have come around now though. He isn't even concerned about the actual surgery anymore he is just worried that I won't be happy after because I won't have the same eating habits as them. Which I am completely okay with. Those habits got me to 300 lbs and as far as I'm concerned this is my new life which means making new and better healthy habits. I am so ready for my sleeve to help me do what I have tried to do for years. My shakes are tolerable as well but only if they are super cold. I am only allowed to use water so to make it a little better I have added ice and blended it. If anyone wants to be buddies I have a hangouts or kik. Let me know and I'll let you know how to find me on there! I'm not sure how to do anything else on this app lol

    May Sleevers?

    Tummy tuck or toning

My doctor said he thinks about year or so out for me. I think it depends on how much you have to loose. I don't think they want it too early because you may not have lost enough and you might have a better outcome a little farther out. I would check with whoever is going to do it.

    May Sleevers?

My pre-op diet is a little different then others. I had to buy optifast from my dietician to do for 2 weeks. So I have the protein chicken soups, shakes, and also protein bars they sell. So not an all liquid diet. Then I can have popsicles that are less than 20 calories, and low sodium broths. I start all this on 4/19.

    Tummy tuck or toning

I'm going to need the have my tummy done and possible a body lift. Depends on how bad my skin is after all of this. I will be getting a breast done as well. I know where I am the breast cost about $6,000 and the one office I called about the tummy was $12,000. I'm hoping they can do some kind of package and do a discount. I already started saving... my biggest fear is loosing all of the weight and still being unhappy with my body so saving for the cosmetic stuff is one of my biggest goals financially.

    Cigna NY

Update for my dates!!! Yesterday I had my last visit with my dietician. I will be seeing my surgeon on 4/11/17 for my last visit with him before surgery. Seeing my Primary Care for clearance on 4/18/17. Starting my pre op optifast diet on 4/19/17 and then having my surgery on 5/3/17!!! I am so excited I can't stop smiling. My boss knows what's going on so she is already approved all of my dates off. Now the reason why I don't start my pre op diet till 4/19 is because they said it takes about 2 weeks for insurance to review everything to approve the surgery. [emoji847]
  18. Hello everyone, I'm new to the community. I will be having my last dietitian meeting on 3/23/17 and will be starting my pre op diet once I have my surgery date! I'm very excited and have done my research and have decided the sleeve is the best option for me. My mom and sister are supportive but my dad is completely against it. He says he is just worried and I shouldn't take the easy way out which we all know surgery is anything but easy. He flip flops on his support and is almost hateful when he is not supportive. Have any of you experienced this with your loved ones? My whole family is over weight and I am trying to break the cycle. I know this is the right thing for me and my mind is made up. I just wish he was accepting and supportive of my decision.. Does anyone have any tips on dealing with the negativity?

    Cigna NY

I have Cigna as well but mine is based in Florida. My requirements are 4 months with my dietician and a BMI of 40 or > since I don't have any medical conditions. My last appointment with my dietician is this Thursday. Hoping I'll find out my surgery date at this appointment or soon after. If you like I can let you know how the turn around is since it's almost the same except a month more for me. Wishing you the best!
  22. Thank you for your response. I'm sorry you went through that with your husband. I think he will come around and be okay with it once I have it and he sees my progress. I had a talk with my aunt today because she and him have been talking and working each other up and she has agreed not to discuss it anymore with him. Thank you for your support and I hope you are doing well! I can't wait to find out my surgery date! It's getting closer!! [emoji847]
  23. Thank you for responding to my post. I appreciate your support! My mom and I have talked about how my dad is expressing his views and she thinks that limiting talk about my surgery is best. Which I agree with at this point. My dad has been overweight almost his whole life and knows the risks. Stroke and diabetes runs in our family and fortunately I haven't had medical issues... yet. That is a big part of why I am doing this whole journey. My father has made his mind up and I just have to live with that. I know that this is best and now I have all of you guys for support and my mom and sister. How are you liking your WLS? How far are you post op?

    February 13 Sleeve 2 Be

You are looking amazing! I will be having my surgery early next month I believe. I have one more dietitian meeting and then I have to see my doctor one last time. I just joined this site today and I am loving how everyone is so supportive of one another. I have a couple people that know and they are supportive but I don't think they really get it since they aren't in my shoes. I wish you the best and hope to continue to see your progress! [emoji122]
