  1. I know this can be a difficult question to answer but I also know a lot of ya'll have gone through the process. But I have UHC insurance and they do cover lap band and I know because I have called and I have to have 2 conditions with a bmi between 35-35.9 and 40 and over no conditions. But my BMI was about 37.82 and I have BP and I went for a test for sleep apnea but do not have it. But the doc at the consult put down I have swelling of the ankles, swelling of the legs, hip pain, back pain, shortness of breath and he also put down I have a family history of heart problems which are all true. But I am worried since this is documented from my pcp that I will have issues. I want this so bad as I am 5'9 and weighed 252 at weigh in but was taking some phentermine at the time and since stopping I gained it all back and weigh about 261 now.

What do you think my chances are?

I feel so down right now and mad at the same time. I just got a call from UHC and I was denied. I was told according to my companies policy I had to have two conditions and it only appeared I had one and they said also that I must of had the condition for 2 years or more and also a 5 year history of morbid obesity which they said I do not have. I guess I am just stuck at being so big as I dont have the money to pay out of pocket.

    Can I do this?

I have UHC which covers Lap Band and I have decided without a doubt I want this and I went to the seminar and I went to the doctors consultation and he said I would be a good canidate as I have a BMI of about 38 and I have high blood pressure and he listed other things like back pain, ankle swelling, etc. I also have a sleep study coming up tomorrow and I am confident I have sleep apnea and I will use that in case the insurance company denies me. The require two comorbilities. But my problem is that the insurance lady at the doctors office said she had everything and would submit it 3 weeks ago and I have called my insurance company a few times and they say they dont see anything submitted at all. I have left a message with the insurance lady but she didnt call me back. So now I am thinking about getting all my medical records and also the results of the sleep study after it is done and submitting to the insurance myself. But can I do this?
  4. I have been thinking of Lap Band for a while now because I am slowly creeping up in weight. Well I decided to do it and told my family. But I never imagined the resistence I would get. One relative asked me why would I want to butcher myself!, another relative who is a fitness instructer who's spoon she eats with is thicker than her said that I should stop stuffing my face and excercise and forget about trying to take the easy way out, my mother in law said why do I want to do this as it is a waste of time and money and wont work. And other relatives just say I am putting my health in risk as this can be harmful to myself. My wife was even skeptical but finally said she would support whatever decision I make. Well I no longer give a crap in any way what anyone feels about what I do  If I am butchering myself then I look forward to being butchered lol. I am 25 5'9 and 258 lbs and I am tired of being so tired all the time and so big. My insurance will cover all but 150.00 and I went to the seminar and went to the first doctors visit on Tuesday of this week and he said I was a good canidate and said this would be a great idea. I am doing this for my own health, and I want to be around to see my 7 month old daughter graduate college and get married and to teach her children things to annoy her I just say yup to anyone who thinks I am making a bad decision lol. But the last laugh will be when I reach my goal weight. The doc asked me if I was sure I wanted this and I told him I would jump on the operating table if he would do it right then as the operating table was in the same building. He said it sounds like you done your homework and your ready. I just have to go through insurance now and I will be set to go!

    I dont get it

Why is it that I am getting so much negative attention towards me deciding to try and get banded? I am a 25 year old male who has been overweight since elementary school. I was only at ideal weight once and that lasted for about 8 months when I lost a lot of weight taking Metabolife with Ephedrine and I felt fantastic but very weird at the same time because I had never been that small before. I still have my pants from when I lost all the weight and I cannot even begin to get them on now. But it seems everyone is against me doing this. My dad says it is a bad idea, my mother in law thinks it is a waste of time and wont help me, my wife is hesitant on it. My co workers say I am not big enough and am to young for this. But I am 25 with heart disease in my family, a 6 month old daughter and I weigh about 260 and slowly creeping up in weight as time goes on. I have high bp and I am always tired no matter how much I sleep. I want to do this for me and feel better. I have a first appoinment come this Tuesday. My insurance covers all but 150.00.

    I am so happy!

I have United Healthcare. Can anyone tell me there experiences with this company? I have the PPO plan. I talked to them and they seemed really nice and helpful. Also the lady says my plan does not require a weight history.

    I am so happy!

I am considering getting the lap band and called my insurance and they said the surgery will be covered. They said I have to meet the following conditions. 2 years of employment- I will have 2 years on April 14th. BMI of 35 to 40 with two conditions or BMI over 40 with no conditions- I have a BMI of about 36. 2 weight related conditions- I have high BP, depression, back aches and pains, and I may have sleep apnea. I mean I am so tired everyday no matter how much I sleep at night. But my insruance will cover it 100% with a 150.00 copay and each fill will cost 15.00 copay.
  8. I am a 25 year old male who is about 5'11 and 257 lbs. I have high blood pressure and suffer from anxiety/depression. I have UHC insurance who covers all but 150.00 of the insurance. I have been considering lap band surgery and have received a lot of negative reaction from people saying that I am not fat enough for this or that I should just diet and exercise. But people dont realize that I have been overweight most of my life. I am tired a lot, short of breath, and just feel bad overall. I am out of breath after just walking up the stairs of my apartment. It seems that no matter how much I sleep at night I feel like I could sleep more during the day. But I have read a lot of things on this site that have worried me. I have read about people who get the band and still gain weight or loose nothing. I have read about people who get sick off of about anything they eat. I also would like to know what can I or cant I eat long term after the surgery and after the first 6-8 weeks? I know I have to eat better but I still would like to enjoy some different types of foods and I dont want to be stuck with only being able to eat a select few things. I guess overall I am just nervous and dont know what to expect. I have already attended the seminar and I have an appointment on April 4th.

    Cant make a decision

Well my problem is that I eat and I eat a lot! It is so easy for someone to tell you to cut back but they are not me. I have tried cutting back and after a while I am just to hungry and start eating big again. I feel that with Lap Band it will give me the oppurtunity to have that full feeling with a lot less food. Also as I would loose weight I would have more energy and get out more without becoming winded so quickly. And my insurance will cover the surgery if you BMI is 35-40 with 2 conditions. I have high blood pressure, anxiety, depression, back pain, knee pain, shortness of breath. I also have heart disease that runs in my family. I am going to go to my doc because he thinks this is a good idea. But I am going to go to him to have him write up a letter of recommendation. I also want to do this for my 6 month old daughter. I want to be able to have more energy for her and I also want to be around long enough to see her grow in her life. I dont want to be like my dad with quadruple bypass at 53 years old. One thing that made me want to do this is seeing him have a heart attack and then me being diagnosed with high BP and then all the back aches I have and just looking at myself in the mirror.

    Cant make a decision

I mean I was all pumped up for this. But I guess reading some of these posts made me think. I really do want to become slimmer and more healthy so I will have more energy and look better for myself. So you cannot drink while you eat? Also after loosing the weight you want to loose do you have the band drained and then refill it at another date if you start to gain it back?
