Does anyone have AR Benefits health advantage with the state of Arkansas? If so how long did it take to get approved after your 6 month supervised diet? My surgeon office gives a surgery date after approval, and I am trying to get my surgery while I'm out of school for summer vacation.

I had my psych evaluation yesterday, does anyone feel like they were trying to make you have an eating disorder? She kept talking about bringing and purging, I had to tell her several times I don't gorge on food and I don't make myself throw up. I had to complete 375 questions on a Scranton which was torture. I've had a psych evaluation to be law enforcement and I did my test by computer and the person who completed my evaluation didn't try to change my answers they accepted my honesty.

The psychologist secretary said she faxed the information to the surgeons office today, but I haven't heard from the surgeon's office. I feel that we should be given a copy of the evaluation as well but I guess that's not how it goes. -

Wow, I sure hope they don't try that with me. She spent 10 minutes with me before she left in my opinion that's not long enough to gage someone. Plus I was a little upset because they charged me $60 when my paper work they sent me said $25 for my copay. They said the appointment should have been 2 different days but they did it one day. So $25 for the 10 minutes I spoke to the therapist and $35 for the assessment I took in the lobby. -

I have type 2 diabetes and Pcos and I'm finding it difficult to loose weight. Also, one of my diabetes medications makes it difficult to loose weight as well. I have 15 pounds I need to drop before surgery. For those that have insulin resistance what diet did you find worked best for weight loss prior to surgery? -

It's going good so far., I started in January. You just keep up with your calls from the nurse coach, healthy guidance, and your pcp appointments. I chose Saline Memorial Surgical center in Benton Arkansas. They require a sleep study, meeting with nutritionist, and 3 support group meetings. I was told that major reason for denial is not losing the 10 % and it has been a struggle for me to lose the weight. -

I've tried to do low carb high fat diet which worked great for me but due to my medication and not having hardly any carbs my blood sugar would drop so I stopped doing that diet. Maybe I can try it again and cut my medication doses in half. -
I went to my first appointment with the bariatric surgeon today I had my mind set on Gastric Sleeve. The surgeon says well with you being diabetic and African American I would recommend the bypass studies have shown that bypass works better for AA females. She stated that I would no longer have to take my diabetes medication. She said it's my choice but she wanted me to know the best option for me. Has anyone with diabetes been successful with the sleeve?

Rblack171 replied to Rblack171's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That was my thought was the gastric bypass cost more, they will make more money. My Pcp told me they will most likely try to push the bypass but it's my decision. I'm going to call him today and let him know what I was told. -

Yes, the complications of the bypass was too much. She gave me paperwork for both procedures and after reading the bypass I know in my heart I don't want that.
