Hi everyone. I was here few years back, but made a new account. I applicated for the surgery 4 years ago through the insurance, that was the only way to go at the time. To be able to have it, one would have to go to a obesity rehab clinic that had a 1 year waiting list, after that time it would be a minimum of 1.5 year treatment until I could have the surgery. And no guerantees, they have all the control and can drag it out for as long as they like or refuse all together. Anyway after 1 year of waiting to get in, I finally got the letter. I was so happy holding the letter, finally it was here. Then I opened to see when I could come in for a pre-interview and me heart sank, what a disappoinment. It was a letter to tell me that they had removed everyone off the waiting list and said everyone have to re-apply, that would mean time to wait for appointment at the GP and then for the letter from him to arrive and then I would get on the list again and because I have no obesity related issues like diabetes I was put last on the list. Because it is based on who needs it first not who applicated first. Another year passed. Then it was 2 years when the lettter finally arrived again and started my outpatient treatment, and I was doing great. After about a 6 months I got approved for my first inpatient 4 week program, need do that a few times during the treatment. But then I got two unplanned blue lines, if you know what I mean. And had to drop out of the program, now my baby is 17 months old. And I had kinda given up on every having the surgery ever. Because I would be put last on the list again if I would. Then last week I found out a obisety surgeons clinic has opened that does not require going throu the rehab clinic, only the insurance does not pay one cent there. But I made an appoinment for an interview with the surgeon faster than I could say gastric bypass. I had that interview yesterday, the surgeon was awesome. He'll do the surgery as soon as I give him the green light. Only problem is financing it, I had calculated I could with a stretch gather maybe 9thousand dollars. But turns out it costs about 3thousand dollars more, in total 12 thousand. I am not the sentimental type, I rarely cry. I don't cry over romantic scenes in movies, The Notebook did nothing for me. And even though I believe in God, I rarely pray to God. I usually just pray to my ancestors and my grandfather in particular. I just feel like I should not be bothering the Big Boss with such small potatoes, call me crazy it just how I feel :). But today I put my hands together and prayed to God, I prayed so hard for a help with the rest of the money. And was hardly started when tears started flowing, and I just sat there crying begging God to help me to have the surgery. Well anyways this is my story so far... If I can resolve this, my surgery wil probably be in june I hope I can, I have waited ENOUGH!

I wish you all the best and hope you get one soon.

LoL I bet you freaked out, reminds me of when my kid had one of those cat toys the rolls on the floor laughing. And one time I was coming home from a night shift IN THE DARK. And when I was at the front door I heard a loud creepy laughter in the dark, my feet literally buckled from fear. And then I realised my kid had left the F*****G toy on the front porch. I disliked it before but after I hated it. hahha -
Junebugs I am taking a year off to concentrade on this and my health.

I am like you, no diabetes not even close, low cholesteole, low blood pressure and so on. I am actually having the RNY and have zero doubt, but it took me some years to get to that point. I am done, I know for sure I can't do this without this help. I am sick and tired of fighting my body and trying over and over again with little results. Oh I forgot, I do have one thing but it is not caused by obesity, I have a hypothyroidism. And that made everything even harder. I want to do this BEFORE I start having problems, because believe me they will come here sooner or later. And btw I am exactly the same height as you and I am 268lb (122kg) I am literally about explode with excitement for my surgery wich will be 13th june. Sorry I can't answer anything about the DS, the DS is not done at all in my country. -
So when is everyone starting their liver shrinking diet, my surgery is on the 13th and need to start around 20th may. And what sort of diet are you going on? I have the option of doing shakes, but also they offer a mealplan that is crispbread with toppings and then a protein meal (fish, chicken etc.) at dinner. Not so keen on that, it is a bit danish/swedish oriantated. My doctor used to work there before he came here and his information booklet is based on that. The nutrionist said they are working on changing that, because Icelanders are not as fond of this type of food as the other nordic countrys, also the selection here is not as good and don't sell as low caloric/low fat option as in the other countrys. The toppings are mostly like liverspread and canned fish. Thinking of doing they shakes.

Has Anyone Kept Their Surgery A Secret?
Big2Tiny replied to Dtrain84's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Not me, I wanna scream it from the top of the roof. But I just found out my cousin had it 2 years ago and told nearly no one. People just kinda thought she used meds or went on a low carb diet. For the first time in her life she reached healthy weight, but she had been able to go below 200 before with dieting. So everyone thought she just did that again. I was pleasantly surprised when she told me the other day, thinking that explains ALOT I wouldn't worry to much, IF people start asking. Just tell the you are trying out low carb diet or something. -
No control over weight loss?
Big2Tiny replied to AngAng's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't believe that is true, according to my surgeon there is a small percentege of patients that end up having difficulti kepping weight on. Not a general rule for all WLS patients. -
I and my 7 year old girl were having a quiet time, while the baby sleeps. So I decided to tell her that soon I would be having this surgery and my big belly would disappear, her first response was Then how will I be able to see you???? hehe, so I told her I would not disappear, just the big tummy. And then I asked her what she felt about it, and she said HAPPY. Because the I would be able to walk, and run, and ride a bike, and jump.. If I would have any doubt about doing this, it would have disappeared right then and there. I am so happy that I am going for the surgery, not just for me but also my children. So many things that they miss out on because of my weight. My 15 year old teen already knows a long time ago, because I tried getting the surgery like 4 years ago but couldn't at the time. But my 18 month old baby will never remember this fat momma of his, he will never remember having a momma that does not go to the playground because she has so much hip or backpain, or always so tired that she takes a nap and every chance she gets. Best decions ever, best thing I have ever done for myselve and my family!

It truly is one of my biggest reasons for doing this. I feel so guilty all the time for never going out and play with the kiddos. We have been having a great winter, lot of snow (like beat a 100years old snowrecord kind of alot of snow) and calm weather. Great for sledding and making snowmans, and what did I do? Stayed inside, because I don't have the energy or winter clothes that fit me. I so wanted to, but the thought of being cold and wet to the bone kept me inside looking out. But next winter all that will have changed

Celebrating a big thing without food
Big2Tiny posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If my surgery will go as planned, it will be on june 13th. But 15.july my partner and I will have a 10year anniversary. Usually that would have meant, fancy dinner and drinks and something. Now I would only be 5 weeks out and I am totally clueless about how to celebrate when dinner and drinks is out of the picture, especially romantically. Any ideas? -

My partner is not Icelandic, he is portuguese so for him whalewatching might be a cool thing Or maybe go to the Blue lagoon, its like 10-15 minutes from our house. And that deffinatly is romantic, and he has never been there but has always wanted to go. -

Good idea, since he orders double anyway, I could just say it's mine and let him finish it -

The thing is we would prefer to go out, get a little time away together because at home we have 3 kids. Would not be a whole lot of romantic to stay at home and cook. but I was thinking we could go to one of his favorite restourant and I could just have a soup or speak to the owner (know him a little) if I could eat my own food. Because he will order a double plate of his favorite dish I am sure, so it's not like they will miss out on the income hehe.
