My wife and I love the AP Band. She has a fill next week. Iam also hoping to get a fill at the same time. She will be 4 weeks Wednesday adn I will be 3 weeks. This is a new inmed band that goes 360 degree and is desgined a bit differant. it will hold anywhere from 10 to 14 cc depending on which one you get. You need to check with your doctor as to what he is using. The cost is about $ 4,000 for the band itself. Chris

Welcome to the group. This is the best thing that I have done in a long time. I will be three weeks on Wednesday and my wife will be 4 weeks on Wednesday. If you have any questions just ask. We are all here to help you. Chris -
I would talk to your doctor and have him send a letter to Insurance asking how long the approval is for. I would hate to see you have to go all through this again. Congradulations on approval and new kid on the block. Keep us posted. Chris

All sept banders are you up for a challenge?
Chris61 replied to itstime's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was banded 2 weeks ago yesterday and my wife 3 weeks ago yesterday aslo. We are both doing fine. We are getting back to normal types of foods. She has a fill schedule for the 15th of Oct. and then I see the doc the same day to schedule my fill. The only problem that I have had is that I had a gout attack and have been having problems since he does not want me taking anti-inflamtory meds. So now Iam on another med and hope that will get rid of the pain. I still have some minor gas pains. We were both in the Hosp. overnight and then once we did the barrium swallow and flourscope we were able to start on liquids. I can tell that Iam ready for a fill. My wife says the same. Chris -

Lucy keep in mind you might get most of it back from your taxes this year depending on your Adjusted Gross Income and the 7.5% on medical expenses. Chris -
This is all very true. Just amazing how we have changed over the years. Chris

I had a great NSV last week. I went out to lunch with 5 other people and only one person knew I had this surgery. One of the guys that work directly for me ask me if I was full since I only got clam chowder Soup in a bowl. I told him and the group that yes I was and had a big smile. I doubt he has figured it out yet unless others have told him. Chris -
I also was banded on 9/19/07 at about 1:30 P.M. CDT and I just love the band. Hard to iamage how this tool works. Still learning to deal with eating and drinking. To used to working a couple of hours and thin take a break. Cannot do that anymore. I hope that you are doing well. I still get some gas pains in the left shoulder. I came home on Thursday once I had the barrium swallow done and thin after I was drinking fluids and keeping them down. Chris

I would call the doctors office and see what his surgery schedule is looking like and ask them if they can put you on it. Then I would also ask about when your pre-op diet is to start? The reason for the liquid clear diet is to help reduce the size of the liver and to help ensure that you will loose weight. I was banded on 9/19/07 and I only had to do it for 3 days before surgery and then on any type of liquids for about a week after surgery. Keep in mind that every doctor is differant. The one thing that I will remind you to do is to make sure you follow what he has and also to ask him all the questions you have. If you feel that you need to start making a list. Our doctor really likes are list when we come in to see him. I will be two weeks on Wednesday and my wife will be 3 weeks. She has here first fill on the 15th. I hope that this helps you out. Chris

MY wife and I have UHC PPO and we were both approved for the band with in the 30 days. The cost for us so far was $125.00 co-pay for the hosp. Have not seen the other bills yet. I hope that this helps out. When I get more information I will post it here. Chris -
My wife and I have UHC and was approved in less than 30 days after paper work was sent in.

The doctor had me and my wife off for a week with no driving and working. Today Iam relased to go back to work. I feel pretty good but know that the body is still healing. Have been having a lot of gas.

Any husband/wife bandsters out there?
Chris61 replied to Hello Kittee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You will do just fine. We did it one week apart and things have gone well for us. The wife goes in 4 weeks for a check up and then the 1st fill. I am going to try and get it so that we both are filled on the same day. The wife is able to drive and lift, she just needs to watch what she does. He said the same would be for me. Funny thing witht he interns they said I could drive starting on Sat. but felt I should what for his word. Plus I had another surgery on Friday that sidline for a few days also. Glad to see that everybody is doing well so far. I think that this will be a great thread to keep going for couples. -
Things are going as well as can be so far since surgery. I went in on Wednesday about 11:00 A.M. and did all the pre-op paper work and blood work. I was taken to the surgery holding area about 12:15 and had more reviews and I kept a real postivie attitude. One of the questions was why are you doing this and I said that Iam doing this to make my life better for myself and the family. At about 1:30 P.M. I was taken into surgery and slide over on the table and they gave me some drugs and the next thing I know I was in recovery. About 2:30 P.M. About an hour later I was taken up to my room and then I was allowed to get up and take care of business. Then I was able to walk around. I know everybody is differant in how they handle pain etc. but I must admitthe only pain that I had an nothing work was the gas pains. That hurt most of the night but I ddi keep up walking etc. On Thursday went for the barrium swallow and got to see the band work and was able to start on liquids by 10 A.M. and was home by 4:00 P.M. on Thursday. I went to see the doctor on Friday because my incision (I have 6) the one by the belly button/now port was very red. He put me on some liquid antibotics. While there he said that it only took him 41 minutes to get the band on me. He said that there was a little fat but not much. The week before my wife had the band done. Since we were not sure if she had a cold or allergies we both did the lquid diet. The biggest mistake for me was going off of it and then restarting back again since Iam allways feeling hungery even though iam eating enough. Just something I will have to get used to over the next few weeks. Thanks again to everyone for all there help and advice
