Give yourself some time. My wife is 6 weeks out and Iam 5 weeks and we had are first fill with an upper gi and the doctor put 1cc in my band and 2 1/2cc in heres. I allready have noticed the restriction. He does it with the scope and was able to see that we both had good restriction. I hope that this helps you out. I would ask him/her what are there procedures are when they put the band in. What type of bands are they using? Ask about your Meds that you are taking and if you have to change any after surgery. How long it will take him to get stuff in for the insurance company? Diet plans for the 1st 6 weeks after surgery, what you can and canot do. I hope that this helps you out. Chris

You have a very good question to ask the doctor, in regards to when we loose weight. I will ask him when I go in Nov. to see him. He did say when we got are fills on Monday that guys have more fat in the area of the band and that is why I only got 1cc verus my wife getting 2 1/2cc. He said the ladies have more on the outside. I am five weeks out and had my first fill on Monday. The biggest problem that I have been having is that I need to stop when I feel hungery and eat. Also I need to stop and drink when working out side instead of going for a couple of hours. That is my biggest problem. Glad to see that you are doing well. Chris

THis will depend on what your insurance company and the doctor requires. Has the doctors office sent you the stuff they are looking for? Have you found out from the insurance company as to what they require. Once we meet with the doctor and went through the pre-op testing (he does one stop shoping) did it all in one day, and gave him all the items the insurance company wanted:Letter from PCP Ie: Min 5 years of weights, heights, BMI etc. a list of all medical issues you have. THe hard part for us was getting all the weights together and having the doctors write the letters the correct way for approval. We had both approvals for surgery within 30 days. We did have to call UHC several times and refax things but we got it done. Then it was about 3 weeks after approval that we had surgery. I just wanted to let everyone know that things went well for my wife who had the band on 9/12/07. I have been busy and have not had a chance to post. I am also going to get the band on 9/19/07. We are not sure the date when her sister will get hers at this time. Here are the details of how things went. Here surgery was moved back from 1 P.M. to 3 P.M. So we got to the hospitial at 1 and got check in. They took here back and she go dressed for surgery and they did blood work. Then they took us to the surgery waiting area. They did not allow us to go back into that area. ( I think the reason was are young daughter was with us and there was not enough room in the area for 3 people) they gave us here glasses and she went on into the pre-op area. I saw the doctor before surgery. They did not start surgey until 4 P.M. she was done by 5 P.M. the doctor came out and said it went well and that she was given the new AP regular which is about 10cc and has soem Fluid in it. She was in recovery until about 6:45 P.M. Then she was moved to her room. Well to say the least that was crazy because it was also shift change and you can iamage how that was. We left about 7:30P.M. that night. Also she could not have nothing to drink or eat until after the barriam swallow test. (We found that out the next day). We new that the test was happing but not that she could not eat. So she had the test on Thursday morning and she passed it with flying colors. So we thought she could go ahead and start drinking and eating but it was another couple of hours before they did anything.(The reason is the nurses will not do anything untill they have a written signed report in the file). So she was complaning of nausea etc. so they kept giving her meds for it. She was able to get up and walk around etc. and she was able to start drinking and eating. We thought that she would be out of the Hosp. by say 3 P.M. but that was not to be the case. Here is another thing that we learned. The clock for the 24 hours does not start when you come in. It starts after surgery and when you get into the room. So they were not planning to let here go before 7 P.M. but no one told us that before hand. The doctor came in a couple of times and check on here and then came back around 5 P.M. and said that she could go. So by the time we got her dressed and all the paper work done it was right at 7 P.M. I brought here home and she is doing fine now. As far as care at the hospitial was ok. It took a long time to get food etc. when they told us they had it on the floor.(The nurses were busy since the rooms were filled) I think that was part of the reason why she was having problems with nausea etc. Then another thing that was upsetting was how the nurse approached with having to give more meds for infections etc. and saying because you are still here. Well now as I look at it, if you would have brought the food right-a-way we might not have this problem. So with that said now things will be easier for myself on Wednesday the 19th and for her here sister when she has it done. I did say that I will have a jug of Soup ready for when I can eat and not wait on them to bring it. I think that if would have had it there and ready for when the paper work was in place she might not of had as much nausa as she did. Just iamage what it is like to not eat for almost 30 hours and having legal drugs in your system. No wonder you have nausa. Again thanks to everyone for all your advice, help and prayers. Our doctor does them under the x-ray not sure how many times before he does them in the office. This will be a good question to bring up when we see him on Monday for our first fill. Chris

My wife and I can not wait for our first fill on Monday. We have been hungery and able to eat a lot. I hope that it will also help slow us down to. Eating a bit fast today and ended up PBing so I learned something new. However one of the hardest things for me is to slow down and take small drinks of fluids instead of large ones like I used to do before banding. I work outside a lot and have to learn to adjust to this. Chris

I will agree with all that has been said here. I have the same problem with my mother she is allways complaining about my dad. I finally asked her the other day how much weight he needs to loose in regards to his bad knees. She did not say a word at all. All she talks about is him going to see the fat lady's while he is at the pool swiming. I have not told here or my side of the family the we have both had the surgery and doing well. I think I will wait until I go and see them the next time and then drop the bomb shell then. Chris

CaresaRN: Glad to see that you are doing well. You are right about all the differant in plans. Even our/and your doctor has changed his mind about the way he has it. He even told us we he needed to update his problem. We were allowed to eat scrambled eggs the 2nd week. My wife is 5 weeks out and Iam 4 weeks and we have our first fill on Monday. We are both trying to figure out how much of a fill will get in the band since we have the new advance AP band. We really notice the differance about 3 weeks out, that we would need a fill. Glad to see everyone is doing well aslo. Chris

I only told a few people before surgery. I did not want to have anyone rain on my prade. Also since I work in construction and so you can image what they could have been like. Now that I have had it and the weight is coming off, I have no problem in telling people that I have the lapband and I love it. Chris

It might have been the OJ. I have heard people say that after being banded things they used to like no longer works. Just a thought. Chris

I notice my current belt is going to have to be put out to pasture before to long. Iam down to the last hole on it. I hope that the first fill will help keep me going to get a new one. Chris

Iam 4 weeks out and had my first BP today. I was trying to eat pizza and think I ate to fast since I was hungery. Have to learn to slow down and eat along with not waiting so long between meals. Chris

Iam 4 weeks out and still having gas pains in the left shoulder. I go for my first fill on Monday and the see the doctor for a follow up. I will ask him about the gas pain and then also about if it also has to do with eating etc. This is a good thread. Chris
