Any other RNY-ers constantly stalling? I feel like I'm losing weight for 4 or 5 days and then stalking for a week and a half- 2 weeks. It's frustrating.

I hit a stall 2 weeks after surgery, that lasted 2 weeks. Then I lost for another week & have been stalled ever since. It's making me lose my mind and I feel as if I'm not losing weight as rapidly as others.

Hi all! So I had my RNY on Tuesday & I want to tell my experience so far! I arrived at the hospital around 8:00 Tuesday morning & got all signed in. When they took me back to the pre-op area I was surprisingly calm. I think I felt this way because after 10 years of battling my weight, I know that this was it. I was finally going to be given the tools to be successful. No more exercising and dieting and not losing weight! My pulse was high for like 2 minutes only because they decided to take it when I got my Iv in, and IV needles freak me out haha. My family was brought back (mom, dad, boyfriend and 6 year old wild child brother). After waiting for about an hour and a half, the anesthesiologist came back and asked me Health-related questions. He examined my airway & assured me that I had very low risks for complications. Then my surgeon came back and introduced himself to my family. The surgery he performed ahead of me took longer than anticipated so mine was pushed back about 30 minutes. My mom, dad and brother went out to the waiting room while my boyfriend stayed until it was time for me to go back for surgery. The nurses came back and gave me my "cocktail" & then wheeled me back to the OR. While I was waiting in the hallway to go to the OR the cocktail hit & I started laughing because it felt like I had drank 2 bottles of wine [emoji23] I was taken into the OR & had to move to the operating bed. The last thing I remember was them strapping my arms down & then waking up in recovery (I thought I was up immediately but apparently I was sleeping for about 2 hours). When I woke up, my face was itching like crazy & the nurse told me I was probably having a reaction to the narcotics. She gave me Benedryl & within a minute I was fine. I was taken up to my room where I slept on and off all night. It was weird because I was never in a deep sleep the entire time, so I could hear every conversation going on around me but I couldn't open my eyes haha. I wasn't in any pain at all the first day. The next day I had a few friends and family members visit. I had to pump myself up for getting my catheter removed. For some reason I was more scared of that than I was of the actual surgery. But it didn't hurt at all. They stopped my pain pump & had me walk laps all day. The gas pain was building as the day went on (seriously I read so much about the gas pain but nothing could have prepared me for it!) I was only nauseous 3 times: the first 2 times I walked & then when I took my liquid pain meds and wasn't sitting up completely. But the nausea lasted 20 seconds and then I was fine. The nurses told me I was a champ because I was handling recovery so well and walked way more than was expected of me. I got to go home Thursday & so far it's been a lot easier than I thought it would be. Getting water in is really hard because my pouch is still so swollen & I'm full after a few sips. I sleep about 11 hours at night & take a nap during the day. Really the hardest part for me is getting out of bed [emoji23] it feels like I did ab day at the gym every day for a week. But other than that I think I lucked out. I blame it on my age & the fact that obesity is my only health issue.

I had never had surgery before either so I didn't really know what to expect. The best advice I can give you is to stock up on gas x chewables or mylanta chewables. That made me finally start passing the gas a few hours after having them. The gas pressure is no joke! And walk, walk, walk!

That's wonderful to hear! Walking is easy for me too! It's just getting out of bed/ getting off of the couch that is giving me a little trouble!

Since I started this journey I always wanted RNY. For some reason I started second guessing myself & wanting the sleeve. As soon as I got my upper endoscopy & found out I had mild reflux I stuck with RNY because I don't want to mess with GERD & have to revise later.

Got my approval today! Surgery is scheduled for May 30th! Got the call when I was at work & cried like a baby haha. Here's to a new beginning [emoji173]

It just got real guys! They submitted my paperwork to insurance this morning. Fingers crossed 🤞 it's a short and easy approval & I can have my bypass by the beginning of June !

Is dr Eid your surgeon? I'm also going through AHN!

Mine did. My insurance doesn't have a minimum visit requirement, but my surgeon required 3 consecutive months. Had my last visit on Thursday & they will submit to insurance soon. Good luck to you !

I went a few weeks ago for my insurance required endoscopy. The doctor found some inflammation in my esophagus & did a biopsy. Got the call today that it was just due to reflux (I have never had my issues with heartburn until 3 days before the procedure, go figure [emoji849]). I have to be on acid reducers for 90 days. Will this effect getting approved for surgery? My insurance required 3 months of visits and my last appointment is on May 18th. So now I'm worried that I'll have to be on the medicine for 90 days before I can even submit my paperwork to insurance.

I've been pretty much set on bypass since day 1. I considered the sleeve for about 3 days, then I got the results & knew the bypass was meant to be. No way I want to mess with GERD. They have me on some generic form of Prilosec.

Getting RNY through the Allegheny Health Network. Anyone from the area ?

In 24. My surgeon actually told me this is a great time for me to get the surgery because other than obesity, I don't have any Health problems!

My last appointment is May 18th. Hoping for surgery by the beginning of June!

I began considering the sleeve. I had my endoscopy Monday morning and I was showing signs of reflux, so I'm going to stick with RNY. Very happy with this decision. Best of luck to you !

Hi everyone. About a year ago I began looking into bariatric surgery, but officially made the call to a surgeon this year. I had my initial appointment with the surgeon at the end of February, where I went over my insurance requirements (weight loss, upper endoscopy, psychiatric eval and 3 consecutive months of meeting with my dietician and surgeon). When I initially met with the team, I was set on having RNY. My reasoning behind this, is because it's considered the "gold standard" of weight loss surgery. Now I'm considering VSG. Health-wise, obesity is my only issue. I don't have high blood pressure, sleep apnea or diabetes. I'm really just looking for advice from those of you who went back and forth between the two. I want to know which surgery you chose and why. I meet with my surgeon again in a few days, so I'm going to bring up VSG and see what he says. Thanks for all of your input

When I first looked into bariatric surgery, I considered Mexico. My reasoning was "why wait months for insurance to approve me when I can pay the same amount after insurance covers it and get it done sooner?" But then after researching complications, it makes me feel a lot better choosing to get it done here in the states. Complications can occur with any surgery, so knowing my surgeon would be close in case something happened makes me feel a lot better. Plus I was told by a sleever who went to Mexico and had complications that her insurance refused to cover the costs to fix her complications because she went to Mexico.
