I have struggled with my weight my entire life. I have tried countless diets, pills, and shakes. My PCP recommended weight loss surgery in 2014 but I wasn't ready for it at the time. I tried on my own to loose the weight for the past two years without any significant success. I decided in Nov. 2016 enough was enough. I was ready to drastically change my life and go for surgery, after having developed more health concerns. I had to complete a six month physician supervised diet, provide three years physician office notes showing weight, and meet with a nutritionist. I was approved within two weeks of submitting my claim.
Also, I work in healthcare have experience in billing and insurance. I was able to be proactive for myself with the doctors office, surgeons office, and insurance company. I highly recommend others do the same, things can easily be shuffled around. Also, dont be afraid to call your insurance company for yourself and ask questions. It was the first call I made to verify benefits and had them email me the policy specifics, then scheduled my appointment to discuss my decision to move forward with WLS surgery with my PCP.
6 Month Post Op VSG Update: Best decision I have ever made for myself. I am very happy with the progress I have made and the lifestyle I am creating post op.
