Im new to the program, having required appts, andon 1500 calorie diet. Ive read some entries about people having concerns about loose skin after considerable weight loss. Being 69, i dont forsee having plastic surgery at any time. Does it help to do weight training prior to surgery, like for arms, legs, etc.

New to site and considering surgery
Finally17 replied to Large.and.sick.of.it's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I agree: attend a weight loss surgery seminar in your area. Many of your questions will be answered. I found it helpful to read The Big Book on the Gastric Sleeve: Everything You Need to Know to Lose Weight and Live Well with the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. There are books from the same author on the other surgies, too. I have another book I havent read yet, Mindset Breakthrough: Achieve Weightloss Surgery Success. This last one was written by a bariatric surgery patient, so consider her individual results when reading. Youve made the decision to do something, so thats a big first step! God luck in your journey[emoji4] -

Since we're supposed to lose so many sizes, what is recommended for clothing that process? Used or consignment shops?

Yes, the surgeon says my insurance company requires a 6-month waiting period. I guess thats to ensure all teats are completed, trial diet is adhered to, and gives patient time to understand procedures and be ready for the changes. I was told medicare covers the cost. And, in other cases, gives people time to arranging payment. -

I went to an introductory seminar at National Park Medical Center in Hot Springs in Feb and to a consultation with the surgeon early in Mar. I've got my appointments scheduled, started my 1500 calorie diet. The surgeon said my insurance has approved the surgery; he said I can expect to have the surgery in August. -

Is anyone over 65? And what concerns does your Dr have, if any?

Good luck to you, too. Thanks for your comments. When is your surgery scheduled?

You say you're senior member. Just how old are you? I'm 69 and hoping to find some folks in this older age group. Wondering if age will play a part.

I guess when we make the decision, we're in it for the long haul. You're quite the trooper! Best of luck on your continuing journey. -
Dealing with being "the fat one"
Finally17 replied to soccermom2's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
To be honest, one of the reasons I'm getting the surgery is because I'm tired of being the different one, the fat one. I have trips coming up prior to my surgery, and I'll just have to be the ME I've always been. Just consider that we're taking charge of our lives and have made the decision to be better, healthier. Try to enjoy the time with family and know that next year you'll be less of you[emoji4] -

I am a newbie as well. My suggestion for exercise is to start while sitting in a chair. I've seen several work outs that can be successful that way until you're able to do something different. Good luck in your journey[emoji4]
