Just want to offer a shout out to Oxford health insurance. I'm sure other companies do this as well, but I received a phone call yesterday from a nurse checking in and letting me know they will be following up 2 days after the surgery and a month after the surgery to see how I am doing. They gave me a 24 hour hotline number if I have any questions staffed by a nurse. I was really impressed with the personal touch and outreach.

Good luck! I'm on the 17th. Hope yours goes well! -
Day 6 of the pre-op diet and it's going well! The first day was really hard and both weekends, this past one and the the next one, we will be at lifecycle events with buffets, dessert bars, etc. Managed to get through the first one with just one small piece of lean turkey and veggies. Hard to believe but I've lost 10 pounds already on this diet. I triple checked on the scale and wore the same clothing from my last weigh in just to make sure! Weekdays are really easy since I'm working all day and making sure to have non-starchy veggies at home during the nighttime and plain broth. Anyone else having their operation at NY Columbia Presbyterian? Did you have it already? What was the experience like there? Did they put in a drainage tube in you? Did you have a shared room after?

I'm on day 4 of the pre-op diet and I totally hear you. It's going mostly okay, but there are moments where I wish I could just eat something besides a carrot and celery! The plain broth helps and remembering why I'm doing this also helps. Good luck to you! -
Hi all, Just introducing myself. Just received my surgery appointment today, which is May 17th. Now that bagel and scrambled eggs I had this morning has become my last pre-op meal without realizing it! Starting the pre-op diet today. I was initially going for a bypass, but with an ulcer discovered during the endoscopy, the doctor recommended a sleeve. This website has been very helpful, inspiring and motivating and looking forward to being part of the forums community. All the best, Ben

Hi all, First time posting but these forums have been a wonderful resource over the past few months. I'm just introducing myself to this forum. I got approved last week by my insurance, which is Oxford, for the bypass and will be meeting first week of May with my surgeon to set the operation date. I believe the operation will be somewhere near the end of May. It's been quite a journey to get to this point, as all of you know, and feeling excited, anxious and a bit nervous for the next steps (pre-op dieting, op, post-op recovery & diet, etc.). Looking forward to all of your good thoughts and glad to be a part of this community. Ben

I'm in the Bronx. Just got approved last week and will most likely have the surgery end of May at NYP in the Heights.

Insurance Approved last week

It's interesting how every office does it differently. The surgeon I am working with meets with the patient to schedule the operation date after all pre-reqs are completed and insurance has approved. Throughout the process you meet with the other staff but I think it's a way for him to manage the appointment load considering it's a NYC office with lots and lots of patients. May 1st is coming up soon, good luck with the day and with the next steps of the journey!
