Unrealistic expectations?
MarinaGirl replied to New Me 31317's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You could try beefing up your shake a little. My ND wants me to add nut butter (e.g. almond, peanut) and coconut oil to my morning protein shake plus a little fruit. Another idea is a 2nd slice of cheese and 3 oz of dense protein instead of 2 oz. Good luck! -
Researching...
MarinaGirl replied to CrazieConnie's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My 2 cents: VSG may not get you small enough to resolve your various weight-related issues as the EWL rate is typically 60% long term. -
band to sleeve pain and anxiety
MarinaGirl replied to Green1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Unfortunately many male doctors discount pain reported by their female patients. I hope that's not the case with you but if so you may want to consult another physician. -
I did not have to do bowel prep before MGB surgery.

They took out my "heater"!
MarinaGirl replied to Paul Bahr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Low iron levels can make you cold or else an under active thyroid. -
What is that one thing you look forward to so much, post op?
MarinaGirl replied to Kris_Aloha's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cleaning out my closet and a lot less knee pain & migraines. -
Revisional Surgery Advice Please :)

I was on clear liquids for 1 week, full liquids for 10 days, and I'm currently on puréed food. -
Revisional Surgery Advice Please :)
MarinaGirl replied to Lauren_90's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had MGB surgery 3 weeks ago and am doing well. I lost 30 lbs pre-surgery and 10 lbs post-surgery, and the pain was minimal after the first 1-2 days. I'm still having difficulty getting in the required fluid and protein but getting better day by day. I'm very happy I had this surgery and am excited for you to get your revision done. You're going to do so much better with the MGB than the lapband! Good luck! -
I'm almost 3 weeks post-op. I'm using my Nutribullet blender to purée chunky soup and I'm also adding Unjury unflavored protein powder to it. My favorite is split pea with ham. Or tomato bisque soup that I add fresh spinach and cottage cheese too, plus the protein powder. I also whip up chicken noodle soup but try to remove as many of the noodles as possible.

I would stay away from chewable vitamins as they tend to have sugar alcohols in them (look for ingredients ending in -itol; e.g. xylitol). I tried some post-op and they caused diarrhea and smelly gas, and they hurt my stomach.

Am I Going to Feel Nauseated Forever?
MarinaGirl replied to MeltsIntoWonder's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you taking a PPI like Prilosec? If not, you may want to ask your surgeon if that would be indicated for you. Does your nausea occur all the time, right after eating, hours after eating, or when you're laying down? Try keeping track on when it occurs as that will be important data for your doc. -
Hope this post doesn't get deleted like my other ones to this thread. I hope my chest gets smaller. I always liked my A/B size but when I gained weight in my 30's they became a D. Not a fan. I'm only 2+ weeks post- op and I can't tell if they're getting smaller yet. Fingers crossed.

The stuff I drank for my leak test wasn't bad at all. I was expecting something nasty based on what others have shared online, but what they gave me at Hospital Angeles in TJ was fine. It was sort of like watered down apple juice.

COFFEE - How soon did you have it?
MarinaGirl replied to Htown521's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told that coffee (caffeinated & decaf) can cause gastric ulcers so it's best to stop drinking it post WLS. Instead, drink green tea (with or without caffeine) as multiple research studies shows it helps with weight loss and prevents gastric ulcers. -
Bariatric surgeon in Mexico?
MarinaGirl replied to Beeks's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Why do my posts that state my Mexican surgeon, is a member of ASMBS, keep getting deleted? Are you only allowing comments about Dr. Illian in this thread and censure comments about all other surgeons? -
Paula Green 042017
MarinaGirl replied to littleme032017's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I recently had surgery and haven't stalled yet, but what I've read on this site to unblock a stall is to increase quality protein & fluids, especially if you're not consuming the minimum amounts. Good luck! -
In the months leading up to MGB surgery I gave up caffeine, alcohol, sugar/desserts, artificial sweeteners, coffee and sodas. I had some killer migraines for awhile but then they went away and I haven't had any issues post-surgery (2.5 weeks). Do you think the changes in your diet could be a factor?

My surgeon also said not to take vitamin gummies.

On my own on surgery day.
MarinaGirl replied to pretty.ruby's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to Mexico for surgery by myself and it went very well. The doctors and nurses at the hospital took great care of me. When I wasn't sleeping I watched TV or used the Internet on my phone, or read some magazines. Good luck! -
Considering Mexico For Gastric Sleeve
MarinaGirl replied to Kelly Buchanon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dr. Ramos Kelly in Tijuana -
I had MGB surgery on 4/10/17 and have had zero complications.

I had a great experience with Dr. Ramos Kelly in Tijuana. I stayed at Hospital Angeles and Hotel Lucerna. Would love to go back and stay at the hotel again!

I hope my boobs get smaller post surgery. I'm only 16 days out, so too soon to tell. I always liked my A/B sized breasts but with weight gain they got up to a D size.

I am I crazy for considering surgery
MarinaGirl replied to Apple1's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I had MGB surgery in Tijuana 16 days ago and am doing great. I made sure to choose the most qualified surgeon (Dr Ramos Kelly) and not go by price as the key factor. I stayed in a fully equipped & modern hospital instead of at a clinic, which also minimized risks. I'm very happy with my decision and the care I received. I would recommend him to all my family & friends.
