    Fear

Sounds like you're doing the right things pre-op, which will help minimize risks during surgery, especially losing as much weight as possible ahead of time. Try to not have food funerals and instead focus on getting as healthy as possible prior to RNY. You can do this!!!
  2. Friendly Reminder: Make sure you let your Surgeon & PCP know of any herbs you take (such as milk thistle) pre or post surgery.

    2017 MGB patient's!

    Dr. Ramos Kelly
  4. Gas-X doesn't help reduce the CO2 gas that was pumped into your abdominal cavity during laparoscopic surgery, which causes pain or discomfort for some bariatric patients. It gets better from walking a lot and time.

    2017 MGB patient's!

It's also a very popular procedure in Asia.

    2017 MGB patient's!

I had the MGB in Tijuana 4 weeks ago and am doing great. I feel very good about my decision and think it was absolutely the right procedure for me.
  7. I've heard of some patients doing short term estrogen patch therapy after WLS to get their hormones back on track. You might want to consult with your gynecologist about what you're experiencing. Good luck!

    Cannot Lose Weight

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I've heard a lot of bad feedback on the lapband so I recommend you talk to some bariatric surgeons for their advice - such as removing it and revising to a gastric bypass or DS.
  9. I have the LINX device. It worked well for the first year but my GERD is back and once again I have to use Prilosec to control it. So I'm hoping my GERD will improve after Bypass surgery.
  10. Uncontrolled GERD can result in changes to cells in the esophagus, which can lead to esophageal cancer. And there are concerns about long term usage of PPIs; possible increased risk of dementia and osteoporosis. So I'd say dumping is the lesser of the 2 as it can be minimized by not eating the trigger food.

Liquid Diet 7 months post op

No yo yo dieting; instead, eat a healthy diet with real food, not processed. Protein first then vegetables.
  12. What are you taking the Gas-X for? Because it won't help minimize the discomfort or pain from the CO2 gas that was pumped into your abdominal cavity during laparoscopic surgery. That discomfort or pain is best alleviated with walking and time.

    I'm sooo hungry.. or HANGRY

I'm almost 4 weeks post Bypass and have not been experiencing any hunger issues, just the opposite actually. Months before surgery I gave up many things (e.g. alcohol, sweets, carbonated beverages, processed food...), which was difficult for the first few weeks but it helped curb cravings and start weight loss. This may be why post- surgery has been fairly easy thus far for me. Suggestions on "hunger" are to make sure you're getting enough fluids in each day and to take PPIs for a period of time after surgery (work with doc on exact dosage and timeframe). Good luck!
  14. Don't beat yourself up for one day of unhealthy eating choices. Instead, it is an opportunity to review your strategies for eating outside the home, especially on vacation/fun days. I would also encourage you to clean out the junk food in your house too. It's not good for you and definitely not for your son. Make healthy eating habits a part of your family values. And congratulations on losing 53 lbs, that's fantastic!!
  15. I took some naked photos 2 days pre-surgery and looked at them yesterday. I am 4 weeks post-surgery and the changes to my body are already very visible and gratifying - wow!! I went to Mexico for surgery and was nervous about it but meeting my surgeon the day before and seeing Hospital Angeles where I had my surgery calmed my nerves and concerns. Everything went very well - I had no complications and was very well cared for by everyone. My surgeon also visited me twice a day in the hospital and once a day in the hotel after I was discharged.

    Looking for 1st hand feedback

I had the MGB surgery 4 weeks ago and am very happy with it. I've had no complications and am losing weight quite well. This procedure is 20+ years old and is very popular in many countries around the world. I think many of the fear mongers are caught up in U.S. medical/insurance politics and their opinions are not based on scientific evidence. I was self-pay but not with Dr. Cobourn, who I hear is a fine surgeon. Good luck!

    Stalling now that I'm active?!WTF

I don't think becoming active is why you're stalling; instead, it's the common 3-week stall which can happen between weeks 2-4. Make sure you're getting all your fluids and protein in. If you're low, bumping them up can help break a stall. Try not to weigh yourself everyday too.

What to take to the Hospital?

Extension cord so I could use my iphone while it was plugged in as the electrical outlet was a little far from the hospital bed. Travel pillow as the hospital only provided one flat pillow. Tooth brush and travel-sized toothpaste & floss. Hairbrush or comb. Travel-sized lotion as my hands and face often get really dry. Ear plugs and eye mask to make it easier to sleep as the hospital was noisy and my room was full of lights with all the equipment. Slippers with good traction to walk the halls. Scarf because I get cold easily. I didn't bring my own robe; instead I wore a second hospital gown to cover up my back side.

    Leftover salmon. Yum yum.

    My doctor lied to me

I would make sure you get examined & imaged by a few doctors to ensure they all say your stomach is normal and was not previously altered (surgically).

  22. Scripps is a great hospital. Good luck! I'm sure you'll do well.

    Considering Mexico For Gastric Sleeve

I picked a surgeon that operates in a hospital instead of a clinic. I spent 3 nights in the hospital and 2 at a great hotel in Tijuana then headed to my friend's house in San Diego and flew home 2 days later. I had no problem with flying home a week after surgery. Dr. Kelly visited me twice a day in the hospital and once a day at the hotel. Not many of the TJ surgeons offer that level of care. I was very happy with how it all turned out.
