how long did it take to heal

Which protein drinks are giving you trouble? And what do you mean when you say they make you sick? And are you sipping or drinking them? With more info we should be able to give you some guidance.

how long did it take to heal

Did you add protein powder to your applesauce and sweet potato? I would encourage you to keep up your protein intake and minimize easy to swallow carbs as the protein will do a better job with healing and energy levels.

    HELP!!!

Can you provide more info so we can better support you? Are you following your surgeon's eating plan or not, getting in the right amount of fluids and protein each day, falling back on old habits? Or is the issue you're comparing your weight loss to others? We want to help.

    Recovery timeline?

How are you doing on your fluids and protein intake? Try to focus on getting the recommended daily amounts and see if that helps your energy level.

    Gained weight in pre-op

I encourage you to lose as much weight as possible before your Gastric Bypass next month as it will help minimize surgical risks. So no food funerals, follow your doctor's diet, and start reducing consumption of processed food and large portion sizes. Good luck, you can do this!

    Pre op bowel prep?

I did not have to do a bowel prep before WLS. Since I was on a clear diet 3 days before surgery and did not cheat, one wasn't necessary. I've also never had to do a bowel prep before an endoscopy, unlike VeggieMonster.

    No cholesterol meds here either.

    Does anyone still get "stuck"?

Best to revise to Gastric Bypass (MGB or RNY) instead of Sleeve to minimize acid reflux, which is common with VSG.
  11. When you feel light headed, eat a little salt. That should help better than laying down as it helps with dehydration.

    Pain after eating

Could have happened for a variety of reasons: 1. Eating too fast 2. Eating too big a bite 3. Not chewing up the protein bar enough 4. Dumping

    Vitamin Intake

I couldn't handle chewable vitamins after surgery. They usually contain sugar alcohols (chemicals ending in -itol like xylitol or malitol), which are artificial sweeteners. They give me gas and make me nauseous now. This is not an uncommon reaction after bariatric surgery.
  14. The pouch reset diet is a fad diet. It does NOT shrink your pouch. It is better for your metabolism to stay away from yo-yo dieting. Instead, eat dense protein first then vegetables. Also, weigh your food, track it, minimize grazing/snacking, don't drink your calories, and stay away from processed food & artificial sweeteners.
  15. I agree with OutdideMatchinside. With your prior reflux, the sleeve is not the right option; instead, you're better off with one of the non-sleeve surgeries (RNY, MGB, DS).
  16. FYI - Hair loss and vitamin deficiencies can also happen in sleeve patients.

    Worst Experience so far?

I'm currently 5 weeks post-op. I've had very minimal issues; NO nausea or vomiting, no gas pains, minimal surgical pain, no headaches. Great surgeon and staff. My current challenges, which aren't that bad are constipation and remembering to eat as I'm not very hungry. Note that many people get nauseous from general anesthesia but luckily I'm not one of them. I also gave up caffeine and sugar 2 months before surgery so that prevented withdrawal headaches post-surgery as I had already gone through it.
  18. Have you considered gastric bypass? Does your surgeon think that would be a better option than a sleeve, which has a high incidence of acid reflux? I would think doctors would want to minimize GERD in achalasia patients.
  19. With your prior history of reflux I think you should go with gastric bypass instead of the sleeve. You'd hate to go through this revision and then require another surgery later. Acid reflux is a big deal; it puts you at increased risk for esophageal cancer and taking PPIs for the rest of your life to control it may lead to higher risks of dementia and osteoporosis.

    Bile Reflux

My research is that bile reflux is not a big complication in MGB patients - only 0.9%, so less than 1%, which is the same rate for RNY. There have been some poor studies that had a hypothesis that it "might" occur but nothing was accurately determined and yet some Bariatric surgeons in the U. S. tout this bad data for MGB. Note that the incidence of acid reflux in VSG patients is much higher than in MGB or RNY patients.

    Retaining water after surgery

It's not the sodium in the broth. In fact you need that right now to help with dehydration. It is most likely due to the IV fluids before and after surgery. It will get better soon.
  22. Are you walking? That helps, plus lots of water and no narcotics will improve the plumbing. I also take Peri-Colace stool softener at bedtime.

    Weight loss

Congrats on making it through surgery and starting to lose weight! Please don't compare your weight loss to anyone else as it can impact your emotions. Everyone is different. Some lose fast and some lose slow due to a variety of factors. If you're following your surgeon's plan then you're where you're supposed to be.
