No, I did not cheat on my pre-op liquid diet. -
April 2017 sleevers how's it going?
MarinaGirl replied to Sparklequeen's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had MGB surgery on 4/10 and I've lost 25 lbs so far; pretty happy with my progress. I'm not having a lot hunger so I have to remind myself to eat. Tracking all my food with MyFitnessPal keeps me focused. No complications and ready to raise my exercise intensity. Congrats to us all! -
I was cleared for strenuous exercise after 6 weeks. I'm at almost 8 weeks post-op and will be starting up Bikram (hot) Yoga again this weekend. Up to now I've just been walking and bike riding.

Are you taking any PPIs? If not, you may want to ask your doctor if they would help your situation. Good luck!
-
Deepest condolences. You and your family are in my prayers.

How to not be hungry

I had MGB surgery 8 weeks ago and I'm not really experiencing hunger and have to remind myself to eat. Everyone's different. -

Insurance approved, but other health issues make me want to wait?
MarinaGirl replied to 44North's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know that not having your thyroid levels at optimal level is a contraindication for WLS. I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and get my levels tested every 3 months and medication adjusted as necessary. This was the case pre-surgery and is still the case post-surgery. I suggest you talk to your clinicians (PCP, Endocrinologist, Surgeon) about this and find out what their recommendation is for you with regards to the timing of your surgery. We're not the right people to make that determination. Good luck! -
I had surgery 2 months ago and I got a mani/pedi beforehand; natural nails with clear on fingers and purple on toes. No problem at the hospital.

How did you decide on a surgeon?
MarinaGirl replied to kmmschaefer's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I chose a Mexican surgeon that has trained in the US, is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), a Fellow of ASMBS, and operates out of Hospitale Angeles in Tijuana. He was awesome! -
Best to contact your physician about this to get a proper diagnosis and treatment plan. You could have silent reflux, which may present with no heartburn.

Are you reaching your protein, fluids & vitamin reqs everyday?

It varies greatly as every surgeon has their own post-op eating plan. What does your doctor recommend?

Damaged myself, alcohol?!
MarinaGirl replied to Chesney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Drinking almost 3 bottles of wine is very worrisome. One may be at higher risk for a transfer addiction to alcohol due to binge drinking tendencies. I don't say this so you'll beat yourself up but for it to be an immediate wake up call to examine your relationship with alcohol. I agree with PatientEleventyBillion that you may need to completely abstain. -
Setting myself up for failure?
MarinaGirl replied to PAstudent's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes, stay away from slider foods even at 1 week out. The point of the honeymoon phase is to develop lifelong habits so once you're in maintenance mode your risk for regain is low. Focus on new eating habits, not trying to mimic past food pleasures with products like Halo Top Ice Cream, which contains sugar alcohols and cane sugar, which won't aid in weight loss or curb cravings. -
No sodium broths in Trader Joe's or Whole Foods?
MarinaGirl replied to odontask's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do not like the taste of any of the Trader Joe's broths. YMMV -
Pre op weight loss tips?
MarinaGirl replied to juju7's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
And stop consuming artificial sweeteners as they do not aid weight loss. -
We can't guide you on your insurance coverage as everyone's is different. Have you called your insurance company to find out if they will cover revision surgery?
-
I also consume full fat products instead of low fat or no fat ones.

Pre op weight loss tips?
MarinaGirl replied to juju7's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What are you drinking? I recommend you cut out all carbonated beverages, especially soda, no fruit juices, limited coffee (unless black), and no alcohol. I would also stop the cuties or any other fruit. Eat protein first then non-starchy veggies, and plenty of water. -
Why did you pick this surgery?
MarinaGirl replied to Cali_love89's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Which procedure has your surgeon recommended? -
Can you elaborate on why you say the surgery didn't work for you? Because the challenges you've mentioned are not due to the surgery but are likely due to unresolved issues with food; your headspace, not your digestive tract. Are you seeing a counselor or have you reached out to your bariatric team for guidance?

not losing weight day 18 post op
MarinaGirl replied to camony's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
FYI - at 3 weeks post-op, you're not in starvation mode or close to it. That won't happen until you're less than 10% body fat (but more like 5%) and your body is burning fat to make up for the lack of calories you eat. -
Patients that weigh below 200 lbs (or had a revision) don't typically lose as quickly as someone that weighs a lot more, so try not to compare yourself to others. Cally, you've lost 14 lbs in 3.5 weeks , which isn't bad, especially after being pumped with IV fluids.
