I was diagnosed with PCOS almost a decade ago at this point. It started in college, the constant packing on of weight even though I was always in the gym and playing softball. I kept going to my doctor explaining that my weight gain was really abnormal for me. My doctor's thought it was just college weight gain, etc. When I moved home from college I continued putting weight on. I became frustrated and decided to start making big life changes. It was in 2010 that I joined a gym, hired a personal trainer, began a vegan lifestyle, etc. During this time, I lived in the gym somewhere between 4-6 hours on any given day. I did not go out to social events or participate in activities that solely had to do with eating. I managed to go from 260lbs to 190lbs on my own. But, the amount of time that was necessary for this was not normal. I started working as a social worker and dealing with life stress, and instantly my weight started going up. My partner was very supportive of anything i wanted to do, but he loved me as is. I unfortunately didn't feel the same way.
Currently, I have completed two doctor's appointments, two nutrition appointments, had my psych evaluation, and will be completing my physicians assistant and final nutrition appointment this week. I am beginning my liquid diet tomorrow (3/15/2017), bariatric post-op class on 3/24/2017 and vertical sleeve surgery on 3/29/2017. Right now, I am feeling pretty nervous about the surgery even though I know I am making the right decision for my health.
Some things bout me, I'm 32 years old. My partner of 6 years and I bought our house last year. I spend a lot of my time watching TV, reading books, hiking, and drinking coffee. I am hoping post-surgery that I can start taking more active vacations, get back into my desired work field as a forensic anthropologist, and hopefully gain better self-esteem and less anxiety. I am obsessed with all things forensics, the beach, Dusseldorf, and Orphan Black.
I am joining this website because my surgery center is over an hour away and I need a support group that is accessible at my time. I would like to have a mentor who has been going through this and right now Instagram has been a huge help.
