    Coffee?

I was addicted to Starbucks prior to surgery (done last week). I gave it up 2 weeks prior so I wouldn't be suffering with the withdrawals as I was healing. I use the patch md vitamin patches and saw that B12 was supposed to boost energy. I'm happy (and surprised) to say that I haven't had a coffee in more then 3 weeks and I feel good. It's probably the lack of carbs keeping my blood sugar more stable...I've never had diabetes, but I saw my energy plummet after carbs & sugar. But I'm thinking the vitamins help too.

    Tracking App

I like baritastic the best. It is the simplest one that seems to cover all the points. I can synchronize my Apple Watch to it, but I'm not tracking steps yet, just my walking and elliptical by time and intensity. I tried a few others leading up to it and erased them when I found baritastic.

    How I maintain

Thanks! You look fantastic. I am so new, but do think ahead about how to keep myself from falling into the same old patterns or yo-yo dieting when I eat to my goal. I will definitely look into that book.

    What am I thinking?!

You look great! So happy that your surgery was a success! Wishing you a speedy recovery.
  5. I have a thought....maybe the iced teas aren't helping you? Caffeine causes the body to lose water. Maybe your body is just holding on to whatever it can bc of the caffeine. I'm not sure what kind of caffeine is in a bottle of Snapple, but I think it does have some I was a Starbucks junkie. I gave up all caffeine 2 weeks before the surgery bc the support nurse said to get the headache out of the way bc caffeine is a no no for my docs protocol. When I eliminated all carbs (pre-op) and started my vitamins my energy didn't tank mid day. I am so surprised. I literally needed my coffee to get through a day. Just a thought. Sometimes it's those little changes that may make a big difference.
  6. Hi- I checked your profile and you are 5'2" like me. 125 is my goal. I copied this off line: BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9 (Normal Weight)People whose BMI is within 18.5 to 24.9 possess the ideal amount of body weight, associated with living longest, the lowest incidence of serious ilness, as well as being perceived as more physically attractive than people with BMI in higher or lower ranges. However, it may be a good idea to check your Waist Circumference and keep it within the recommended limits. if you get to 125 your BMI will be 22.86. NORMAL It's not normal for us. But it IS normal. And in the mid range of normal. That way if we fluctuate a little we can still stay in that normal range and get ourselves back in order before we are in the danger zone again. I've NEVER weighed 125. I was over 100 pounds in 6th grade and in the 140's by 7th grade. So it will be weird for everyone around me, including me. But that's why we made this choice right? For a major change forever that will keep us healthy for life. I say it's your choice and I wouldn't confer with my family. It will take time for your head to catch up with the mirror. Maybe just say you aren't losing weight anymore if they are pushy and that your body is just settling. Or that you are toning up. Whatwver you are comfortable with. But I find that sometimes people (because I have lost a lot of weight in the past and was running like crazy) start to get weird and want the fat version of you that THEY are comfortable with. Keep up the good work.
  7. It's crazy how different the protocols can be from doctor to doctor. Mine says by day 2 you can have soft and mashies. I was too scared. I week out I have full fluids and a few small servings 2-4 oz of soft and mushy (Greek yogurt, scrambled egg, steamed cod). But they literally said "go to the gym" get on the treadmill or the elliptical and keep moving. Which I was surprised about. But I've been ok. I'm not killing myself of course, moderate speed and a few 5-15 min intervals. I've done 25 minutes and I felt great. But with all of my researching I was prepared for 5-7 days of clear fluid, then a week or 2 on full fluids before hitting the mushy stage. I'm glad though that this is ok. I'm not a fan of all the artificial sweeteners that are in my protein shakes. I want to eat as clean as possible once I can get off of the shakes.
  8. Awesome! Thanks. I see it
  9. How do I change my weight as I lose it? ive tried everything I can think of in settings, surgery, profile, account please help this newbie.

    Driving

They said smaller then a m&m is fine to take. Or crush them. I got the tiniest tylenols that they make (about the size of an M&M) and was fine.
  11. I was actually UP about 8 pounds right after my surgery. I'm happy to say that a week later that plus some more is off of me. I was VERY swollen and retained so much. I could barely go to the bathroom bc of the anesthesia, so once I was up and about and getting fluids in normally, I lost the extra fluid.

    Sip

Depends on how far out you are. I had to sip the cups on day one and 2. Now I can drink a whole one with no problem...I don't gulp it down, I still drink slowly. im only a week out, but I see a difference. Instead of taking one hour + for my protein shake, I can do it in 45 minutes. Lol
  14. Wow! What has your doctor said? You must stay hydrated first and foremost. Maybe they can prescribe you something for the nausea. What kind of surgery? I make it my business...and it's a chore, to get my fluids in. Maybe try a different shake. I CAN NOT stand the powdered shakes that my friend who had VSG LOVES! So buy a few different kinds and see what works for you. Premier protein premixed shakes are the best for me. 160 cal 1 g sugar and 30 grams of protein. I try to start my day with that so I'm nearly halfway there. And it's the consistency of whole milk. I can't deal with the gritty stuff. I've even tried mixing it in my bullet, but still no go for me. I hope you feel better.
  15. They won't let you exercise until 1 month? My doc said I must exercise starting day 3. No lifting over 10 pounds, but definitely do cardio- walking, treadmill, elliptical, etc I am 1 week out and hungry- lol we are probably that 20% who don't lose their appetite 🙄 But I'm resisting! I hit my protein and water goals so I'm trying to tough it out. I'll give in to a protein shake or 1/2 of one later if I'm still hungry I have a great app that is good for tracking food, carbs, calories, water intake and exercise. Also tracks your weight and bmi, etc. it's so easy. I erased the other apps that didn't seem user friendly. Baritastic Is the app. Try it. It definitly switch to ground turkey or chicken. Maybe some vegetarian re-fried beans. I've been eating fish (cod and Talapia -steamed). Tons of protein, low fat and low calorie...and filling. My doc said I can have cottage cheese and scrambled eggs and soft steamed fish right from the day I left the hospital. I too was surprised, but he said that's fine. And they are a well known NYC practice. I was too scared to eat mushy stuff so soon so I stuck to liquids for the first few days and eat tiny amounts.

    Driving

I had surgery on Thursday morning and drove on Saturday morning. I only took pain meds 2 times on Friday when I got home. I was pretty uncomfortable getting into and out of the car, but it was totally doable. You can take 2 Tylenol to take the edge off. The sooner you stop the narcotcics, the sooner your bowels will get normal. Narcotics can cause some major constipation. I knew this and grabbed some benefiber before the surgery. It's great. Totally dissolves and tasteless.

    What am I thinking?!

Awesome!! I hope I don't need that surgery, but at least it's nice to know there are success stories and it's not too bad...just in case.
  18. Has anyone developed a rash on their stomach post op? Ive had one since day 3. Not day 1 or 2. No fever. I called doc and they saw it at my post op appointment but just said to take benedryl. Its like a bunch of tiny little red bumps and it's itchy. 😫
  19. VSG4Mag

    Post-Op rash??

Thanks. I was thinking the betedyne. It is lightly all over, but mainly concentrated to my flanks. When I got home I noticed the betedyne more concentrated on my sides, the PA said bc there is blood on your abdomen they wash you off a bit. That's why it looks like more in the sides. Its sooooo annoying. I have topical benedryl on it now and take a full dose of the pills before bed since they knock me out. Ive taken a shower every day since I got home (1 day after the surgery), I'm just surprised it's not subsiding by now. But if that's my biggest problem I guess it's not that bad. I'm back to work one week post op and hanging in there. It's actually easier to get my food & liquids in when I'm sitting at a desk.

    Nice! How are you feeling?
  21. Almond milk with no added sugar can cut it down. I've done that, but now it's so hard to get them down that I don't want to Add any more volume. The premiere protein shakes can be a bit sweet too.

    Gas pain

Walk walk walk. It really helped me. I couldn't walk much the first 2 days, but day 3 they said go to the gym. Well I dusted off my elliptical and that definilty eased the pains. I would do 5-15 minutes each time a few times per day. Plus I am freaked out by the risk of blood clots. 😱
  23. You are right. I was just trying to condense my title so it would reach the people that maybe made the same choice as me. I'm glad I'm not the only one. This is why this site is a great resource. Of course everyone won't agree, but it's good to know that there are people out here who can relate.
