Good carbs from whole grains are so nutritious and research shows this. It is the processed, highly refined carbs and sugar that we need to stay away from. -
How Does Anyone Know What To Do??
Apple1 replied to Taylor5's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I also had surgery in Mexico with Dr. Illan and I had a very good experience. I would definitely consider this option. -
Yes!! I am used to thinking in terms of pace. My easy pace is 12:30-13:30. I could run forever at that pace, but I could bust out a much faster mile if I want or need to. I haven't really tested my limits lately. I may do a test this weekend and see how fast I can run a mile just for fun.
-
That is interesting. Without reading the actual journal article and reading the methods I can't really comment much on the study, but I do know from my research that running fast is a good way to injure your self, especially if you are new to running. I have been reading up on this subject and the different training methods out there. So far everything I have come across stresses that for Master runners (>40), especially if you have not run before, starting slow and building a good solid base is the key to avoiding injury. Another benefit to running slow, at 60-75% of max heart rate, is this is the zone where you will burn the most fat. This is also the zone where I often feel like I could run forever..lol.. I think you need to decide what your goal or goals are and then work from there. My first goal was simply to be able to run a mile slowly without walking. Now I am working on building my weekly mileage or my base. I want to get up to 25-30 miles per week and then I am going to start training for the half marathon distance. I haven't run any races yet. I can't decide if racing is something I want to do? Right now I am just enjoying running and the fitness it gives me. I am not sure if I even want to work on getting faster. I like running everyday and if I didn't need to take at least one rest day a week I wouldn't.
-
Sure you can do it. I could run it that fast if I wanted to, but I fear injury. I’m just overly cautious you will probably be fine with that time frame. I am focusing on running further first then I will start working on my speed more. I want to have a good amount of base miles built up first.
-
I agree. There is no certain speed where jogging becomes running, it is all running. I remember the first time I ran a mile without walking... it feels great!
-
I think it is great that you are starting to run!! Welcome to the club I warn you it is addictive..lol but that is a good thing. I caution you to start slow.. really listen to your body. I would just concentrate on being able to run slow for increasing amounts of time and leave the speed for much later once your fitness catches up a little with your brain...lol.. I am very cautious when I run fast because I don't want to end up pulling a muscle. That is just me though. Have fun.
-
That is pretty fast for anyone that hasn’t been running consistently for a good while. I have been running since June and I still don’t feel comfortable running that fast for 3 miles. I just wouldn’t want anyone to injure themselves. Jogging is running slow..lol
-
This is a great topic. I started with C25K at the end of June and I am now running 5-6 days a week. I am following the 80/20 principle, meaning 80% of my runs are at a slow conversation pace 12:50-13:20mile, and 20% I run a bit faster 10:00-12:00 mile pace. My long run is up to 4.5 miles. I haven't really started any sprinting work yet I just run a little faster a couple days a week in the middle of my runs. During the week I usually run 30-40 minutes and on Sundays I run 60-90 minutes. The cardiovascular system develops much faster then the muscle and skeletal systems so slower is always better. My resting heart rate averages 50, but I have many instances in the high 40's. I think the key is to go slow, but how fast you progress is probably more of an individual thing. I am just listening to my body and staying away from really fast sprinting until I have a year of consistent running on my feet. I am 49 and don't want an injury to sideline me. My reading tells me that it is the speed work that usually results in the most injuries so my advice is to run slowly and consistently giving yourself time to recover.

Always seeing myself the same fat girl
Apple1 replied to lindabalseca's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
No, it is a lot. You have lost an average of 6.5 lbs per week and 26 per month!! I'm not sure how much faster you think you should be losing, but I really think you are doing incredible. I see a big difference in your photos. I don't think I have read anything where anyone says you should be losing X amount each week. I think what has been said is the averages lost are usually higher for those that start at a higher BMI. In my opinion you have exceeded the averges. Be proud and happy for your accomplishment and keep it up!!! How do you know your co-workers aren't genuinely happy for you? Maybe they are. I think you need to start believing in yourself and know that you are worthy. Even if you never lose another pound you are a beautiful person. Believe it!! -
Also measure out 1 oz of nuts and have that if you are able to eat nuts. They are calorie dense and it will help curb hunger. Make sure you weigh your portion! The key is to find healthy alternatives stay away from processed sugar!! I eat a ton of salads now. They are low calorie, healthy, and it works for me.

You have lost 62 lbs (from your sig) and that is 12.4 lbs per month and that is awesome This is so true!! For both of you!!! We are all on this journey and our individual experiences are unique and sometimes different from others. We might lose fast, slow, have more stalls, have more mental stuff to process, but we are all changing for the better. -

I never would have imagined that a year ago. The other great experience has been the awesome friends I have made @Newme17 and eating for health not just to eat. -
