May 15th, 2017 Sleevers Check in Here!!!
Apple1 replied to Newme17's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am watching my granddaughter for the first time today since surgery. She is nine months old and is definitely wearing me out lol. I am determined to get to 70g of protein today. I am going to make another pot of soup tonight. I think I will use squash, green beans, peppers, onions, red potatoes and some smoked turkey sausage. I may throw some in the blender and purée it up good so I can have more than just broth. -

That is awesome @Sweet as peaches. Yay for no more bp meds!! Have faith in yourself. You can do anything that you decide to do, you are strong. Just set smaller goals that are easier and keep working your way to the grand final. -

Beans are on my plan starting week 4, but my surgeon is a little conservative. I don't understand the no beans at all. -

I do think every surgeon has their own plan and most of the time there are slight differences. My plan had me on clear liquids only the first week while many are allowed protein shakes and yogurt. I have even seen that some docs go to purée on day 2 post-op. -
I can't believe those women actually said that to you. How rude. It was absolutely not their place to judge you. Sometimes I really wish people would stop and think before they speak.

Hurray for you @Newme17!!! I am so happy you are getting your kitchen back and eating the egg went well. Your experience makes me think I will do ok when I start on some new foods. -
I haven't taken any meds for my diabetes since the day before my surgery. I was given one dose of insulin the first night in the hospital as my bs spiked to 225. Everyday since it has been completely normal between 75-120. So far so good. i am so happy with this outcome thus far.

I am so sorry you are feeling this way. I am 8 days post- op and I can honestly say I have not felt any regret at all. I would just take everything one day at time. Everyday will get better and you will most likely feel differently this time next week. I know everyones experience is different so I can only relay how I have been feeling. I hope tomorrow is a better day for you!

@Sweet as peaches I agree with you completely, we are all rocking this sleeve. I look forward everyday to reading everyone's updates. I feel so blessed to be on this journey with such a great group of ladies☺️ -
I can really relate. Have you read my thread " Am I crazy for considering surgery in Mexico"? Check it out. I had a BMI of 31, but I have type 2 diabetes so that was my main motivation for having a VSG. I can't tell you what to do, but I will say that no one should judge you. We all have our reasons for wanting to have WLS. I do not think it is the easy way out. I do think it can be a great tool to help us make positive permanent changes with our relationship with food. It will restrict us and give us time to learn and do the mental work if it is needed. i can recommend my surgeon Dr. Illan and Bariactric Pal without hesitation. I am 8 days post-op and I feel great. I had a very good experience and I feel like this was the best thing I have ever done for myself. good luck with your decision!

I finally figured it out. Yay for me.

Day 3 Post Op: does it suck this bad for everyone?
Apple1 replied to Jenopolis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 8 days post op and I feel really good. I didn't even start on protein shakes until yesterday because my plan had me on clear liquids the first week. I think I am one of the fortunate ones in that I seem to be healing quickly. I am up to 50 oz of liquids and will probably hit 50g of protein today. I can easily walk 2-3 miles if I take it slow. I would just focus on fluids until you are feeling a little better. We are all different so I think everyone needs to listen to their bodies and ease into everything. -

We eat mostly chicken, turkey, and fish. Probably 70% of the members of my church are vegetarians/vegans with the other 30% eating chicken/fish. I don't know if I will ever be completely off meat, but I rarely eat processed foods anymore. I haven't been to a McDonald's in probably 3 years except for a coffee. The problem I have had Is that I need the fats in my diet because too many carbs always spiked my blood sugar. Going forward I will have to see what works and what doesn't. I have lots of good recipes also I can share later on when we are on regular foods. -
I am wondering if having thyroid issues prevents weight loss even after surgery? I have been researching this because it is a fear that i cant seem to shake. I have read some posts where insurance won't approve if you have any thyroid conditions. I am self pay so that isn't a problem for me. I have been taking armour thyroid for about 3 years now. I am not on an optimal dose yet. I expect my endo to raise it at my next appt. on the 26th. If I am on the correct dosage will i lose weight on average the same as someone without thyroid conditions? I am ok with losing slow I just want to get to my goal weight eventually.

I like the taste, but as we know it is very individual. Week 3 I can have fruit and I plan on taking one of theses shakes, some frozen strawberries, and vanilla yogurt and throwing it in my Ninja for a delicious protein shake/ smoothie 😊 -

I read through that thread so it is funny that you would post it here now lol. I agree with the premise of his post. I want and hope to achieve a permanent and sustainable life style. By doing this I will reach both my health and weight goals. I think we have to be brutally honest with ourselves if we are going to figure out what we are willing to continue doing long term. i will follow my doc/nut plan for the first couple of months because I do not want complications and I want to maximize my chances for success. I will gradually adopt the healthy diet and exercise that keeps me where I want to be and is sustainable. I am not a gym person, never was and never will be. I prefer walking, hiking, biking...etc.. I am looking at this as a tool to help me achieve positive change, but I very much still plan on enjoying my life. I want to be around to watch my grandchildren grow up and I want to be active well into my senior years. -

Just in case anyone is looking for a different brand of protein shakes to try I thought I would post what is working very well for me. I got theses at Sam's and they taste great. It only takes me about an hour to drink the whole 11oz and there are only 7 net carbs. -

Ok so I tried the isopure and it immediately made me nauseous . My mouth started getting all watery and I was sure I was going to puke. I think I am just going to stick with what I know I like and works because it gets expensive to buy something and find out it doesn't work. Not a great start, but at least the nausea didn't last too long. I am gonna go take my pooch for a walk before the rain starts for today.
