    VENTING - can vs should

we all come here for support. Sometimes we need tough love, but there are many ways to convey that without hurting someone's feelings, and it would be nice if we all remembered that.
  2. I fear my posts didn't really help. What was true for me pre-op really didn't have anything to do with your question, i am sorry. I think post op we really don't have the ability to eat too much protein. Maybe 2-3 years out but I don't know. I have seen a good guide posted for the phases here on the forums. I actually think it was @OutsideMatchInside Who posted it. Maybe she can repost it here for you.

    Regret

You have a positive attitude, and that is great. My dad used to always tell me attitude was everything when faced with trials. We can choose to focus on the negatives and wallow in self pity or we can look for the positive side and what we are learning while going through them. It isn't always easy to stay positive, but I believe it absolutely helps us. We must change our relationship with food and adopt healthy sustainable eating habits. This emotional upheaval is part of the process most of us will go through. We can choose to keep our eye on the prize or keep looking back and missing our unhealthy lifestyles. I am doing my best to stay on the positive side of the equation.
  4. Good morning everyone. I am shopping for an elliptical machine this weekend and I am wondering if any of you have any advice on a good brand? I don't want to break the.bank, so I am looking to spend $1,000 or less. I hate going to the gym, but I need something that will give me a good workout from home. I don't think just walking is enough. In other news.... I decided to add a few frozen strawberries to my protein shake this morning so I threw it all in my ninja. It tastes great, but the ninja added so many air bubbles. There is literally 2 inches of froth. This is making it hard for me to drink. I am stirring and drinking and burping. Aw well I learned something this morning. I hope everyone has a good Saturday ☺️
  5. Good night @newme17. I have just been using Listerene. It seems to work a little better than brushing alone.
  6. lol... yes that is my husband to a tee. He is the nicest person you will ever meet and he would give you the shirt off his back, just don't ask him to go to go any big social gatherings... he hates that.
  7. That is so funny. My dh has always been the quiet shy type, very introverted, I guess what they say about opposites attract is true, because I am very social.
  8. Thank you @mishyk. You are the same age as my son, who is also still single.
  9. I do think it is the almost 70g of protein in the 8 oz steak that causes the delayed bs spike. The calories aren't the driving force because if that was the case it wouldn't matter what you eat as long as it was low in calories and there would be no spike. fat does not raise bs because it is not converted to sugar in the body, protein can be converted to sugar if eaten in excess. I am not saying excessive fat consumption is good just that it doesn't directly effect bs, and I worry less about the fat content then carbs. I think the key is you are only eating 20-30g at a time. I can do this also with no spike. P.S. I agree that the proper portions of protein do not spike bs and will most likely not ever be a problem for most people after WLS.
  10. Looks yummy, but I can't eat shellfish. My dh loves black beans and rice. I haven't tried any meats yet, but I bought some salmon today so very soon I will try some.
  11. Yes, that was my point, it is possible to eat too much protein before the sleeve and have it effect bs, but not likely after the sleeve. Of course portion control is key, and obviously I had a problem with that as probably many here can relate to. I am hoping my diabetes stays in remission and my portions in control. That is the plan.
  12. Ok I seem to be posting a ton of pics today, so these will be the last for awhile. I made the Ricotta bake tonight. I made a separate one for my dh which I added some ground turkey with green peppers and onions. I used sauce with no added sugar, whole milk ricotta, shredded 6 cheese Italian, and parmigiana. I don't like low fat cheeses, but if you do that would cut some calories. I put mine in a muffin pan. It was delicious and it seems to have agreed with my stomach. I couldn't finish the whole serving, there was about two bites left when I was full.
  13. I have found that eating higher portions of protein will produce a delayed spike in my blood sugar. Pre-op if I ate 8 oz of steak my bs might be 125 2 hours post meal, but at 4 hours could be 145-150. I learned through testing that 6 oz was the max portion I should eat if I wanted my bs to be less than 140 2 hours post and continue going down. I think eating too much protein at a meal can and will cause a delayed spike in a diabetics bs, how much will cause it ? I think that depends on the individual. I don't know about post op because I am not even eating meat yet, and I doubt I will ever be able to eat an 8 oz steak again. I can say drinking a protein shake with 20g does not spike me much at all and I am still off my medication thus far.
  14. Roof is done. I am amazed at how fast they work.
  15. I am sure the antibiotics are the cause. That usually happens to me also. I am knocking on wood here as I am good so far. I hope it clears up fast for you. I know it sucks😟
  16. I think you are right. It is such a habit to drink while eating. I am going to give it my best effort to change.
  17. Well thank you @Sweet as peaches. We have been married 30 years. He was my high school sweetheart. I still believe there is someone out there perfect for you and when the time is right you will find him. Single is good also and I can where there are some advantages to just worrying about yourself.
  18. We are bad influences..lol I go back on Tuesday and I already know I will be missing my time on here.
  19. @Sweet as peaches listen to @Newme17. There are plenty of good men out there, and plenty of time to find one. You are such a sweet caring woman any man would be blessed to have you.
  20. I keep forgetting to wait 30 minutes after eating to drink. I think it is because I was on liquids for so long and it didn't matter. I think I will set a timer starting today.

    Full liquid vs puréed

Some doc/nuts are very conservative. My plan had me on clear fluids for the first week after surgery. Second week full liquids, third week puréed. I am three days from my third week and I have incorporated a few puréed foods with zero issues. I am eating well blended creamy soups and cottage cheese.
  22. That is a good man! I have watched those also, and one about commercial chicken houses, which is why I started raising my own. It helps that my dh is not a picky eater, he likes everything.. lol.. and he doesn't cook..
  23. I think everyone is different. I have read on here where some people have been in extreme pain and felt horrible, but I only felt rough the first night and have been fine since. I think it is impossible to know ahead of time how your body will react. Maybe plan for outpatient with the option of changing your mind if you need to.
  24. I like that you are focusing on making your diet overall more healthy. That is my ultimate goal also. My dh has agreed to eat whatever I serve him. I thought it would be hard for him to give up rice, but he has done well. I use riced cauliflower instead and it works well.
