  1. So I realized peanut butter is on my list of new foods to eat this week, so instead of a protein shake for my after workout snack I made these. Very tasty and plenty of protein.
  2. That is a good idea. Thank you!! You would think after 3 separate deployments over the years that I would get used to him being gone, but I always miss him even on his two week training trips. I double check all the locks and everything before I go to bed just to make sure..lol..
  3. Yea I am trying to get most of my protein from food that I eat. I am phasing out the protein shakes to no more than 1 per day. This is just my personal preference. Thank you for sharing what you are eating.
  4. lol... I get so tired of editing my post because auto correct never gets it right..🙄
  5. Yes! It is so hard to cook just for me especially since a meal is like 2-4 oz. I grilled 4 chicken thighs on Sunday evening and it has taken me three days to eat them all...lol I am tired of chicken. My dh is going to be away all this week and next. I miss him already.
  6. I have been afraid to try anything spicy 🌶. Has it bothered you @Newme17?
  7. I tried some refrained beans and for some reason they didn't agree with me either. My stomach just felt really full after only a couple of bites and I was really gassy.
  8. That is so awesome @Sweet as peaches. There are many ways to get in some aerobic exercise and dancing is a good one. Anything that gets your heart pumping will work. I am doing fine. I am getting busy at work but I am feeling a lot less tired this week.
  9. That looks so yummy. My food has been really boring the past couple f days. Tomorrow I am gonna cook something new.

Does the approach of food tracking or journaling and portion control have to be thought of as an eternal diet mentality? I don't think so. It is a tool just as WLS is. I am not thinking of any of this as a diet. They are the tools that I use to ensure I am eating healthy and within my personal guidelines I set for myself. For me a diet means it has an end and these tools I am using now are for life. Maybe down the road i wont have to use them everyday because I will have more confidence in myself, but I am not looking at any of this With a diet mentality.

My thinking is along these same lines. I would love to have a comparison 2-3 years down the line and see how well it works out for anyone that decides to do this.

    Leaving dieting behind

I think the problem is many of us need to change our attitudes about eating. We need to eat to live and not live to eat. I think many of those principles are great, but not all of us or even many of us, would be able to just intuitively eat correctly to the point of not regaining weight or losing some aspect of our health, such as controlled diabetes without medication. I absolutely think we need to correct any bad habits or mental aspects related to our eating. I have already changed my mindset in that I no longer view how I am eating as a diet. It is a lifestyle and it is still evolving, but it will be how I eat for life. This is just my opinion and I am always learning, and will adjust if I feel compelled that I need to. In some ways my type 2 diabetes is helping me now believe it or not. By checking my bs daily I have a concrete way of gauging how what I am eating, is effecting my body, and by tracking my foods, I can make adjustments as needed. I got in the habit of keeping a food journal when I was diagnosed so it has become second nature to me and is not a bother at all.

I am so open to learning!! Obviously what I have been doing for the past 8 -9 years hasn't been working and led me down this path. The debates and discussions on nutrition on this forum have led me to seek out publish papers on the subject so I can educate myself. I am learning so much from everyone especially the veterans that are still here posting and helping us new to this whole process. My degree is entomology not nutrition, so I still have a long way to go, but I will get there, my health depends on it.

My thinking when I read this post was it should be in a maintenance forum or should come with a big warning that it is not for those just starting out and in the losing phase of their journey. Many are still learning to conquer their food demons or unhealthy habits. I didn't mean any disrespect to the OP and I am happy she has found a way to maintain her weight. My logical brain just can't see how this type of thinking will work for the majority of people that have just had or will have WLS. I know not everyone is a food addict, but many are, and I would say most of us had unhealthy eating habits at the very least. I am a newbie when it comes to what it takes to be successful, but I have seen what addiction can do to people. An alcoholic can never have another drink or they will relapse, and I think many sugar and carb addicts might have a problem with this way of eating. I have read some articles and first hand accounts that say some foods should never come back into your diet if they trigger you or are gateway drugs so to speak. I haven't always been obese. I used to be able to eat anything and I never gained weight. I was skinny as a rail. But my body changed when I turned 40, my thyroid took a dive, and I obviously didn't change my eating habits to reflect this. As our bodies change we have to adjust and realize what worked when we were 20 or 30 might not work when we are 40. I doubt I will ever be able to eat like that again and I don't think that is a bad thing, it is just a new normal. I think we all need to figure out the best path to success and that will likely be different for each individual. I am still trying to figure out which path is going to work for me, but I don't think I can risk my health to my intuition, at least not at this point.
  16. I actually love fruits and vegetables, but many fruits are high in natural sugars which are bad for diabetics. I eat lots of fresh vegetables and grow a garden every year. I am missing salads and I can't wait until I am able to eat them again. I think for me I will always eat fish, turkey, and chicken, with smaller amounts of red meat. It really depends on your current medical status as to what type of diet is going to work best long term.

I would say if you are making a conscious decision to eat healthy or choose the right foods then you are not exactly eating in the way the op was explaining intuitive eating to be. to be honest I know nothing about intuitive eating. I haven't researched it or really heard of this style before. However, the way the op explained it just seems like a recipe for disaster for many of the people here working on food addiction. If it works well for some people then that is great. I definitely don't think one plan fits all. But I don't think if you monitor your macros or portions you are being excessive or remaining on a diet. I think it helps me to remain aware so that i don't mindlessly over eat or choose the wrong foods. I don't feel like this is a diet. I am treating this as a lifestyle change.

    What are you guys eating???

I can eat leftovers if it just the next day for lunch, but if any more is left I feed it to my chickens, they eat anything.

    What are you guys eating???

Maybe try some puréed soups. I made my own homemade and just blended them. Tuna salad, chicken salad blended. Eggs with cheese. I hope this helps a little.

    What can I drink ?

I like diet green tea, zero calories and tastes great. You can even get it flavored with mango or pomegranate.

I seriously doubt this would work for everyone. If I ate anything I wanted whenever I wanted it I would weigh more than I did before I got WLS. i don't consider choosing healthy foods and portions dieting. It is a lifestyle and is simply how eat now.
  22. Good Luck on your consultation. This a great forum with many that have been through this and can support you.

    Bypass Vs. Sleeve?

I chose the sleeve because I had a lower BMI and did not want the added risks of having my intestines rerouted. I am type 2 diabetic and I have had great success with my BS since surgery.
  24. I tried those and I cannot drink them, they taste gross to me. I am really trying to get most if not all of my protein from real food now. I still drink a shake occasionally for breakfast or after my workout, but now that I can eat meat I prefer it, and it keeps me full.
  25. I am curious what you are consuming to get to 100g of protein at your calorie level. I am working on increasing my protein levels and I am not hungry enough to add another meal. I am really not forcing myself to eat more calories. I am just listening to my body and Not purposely trying to stay lower calorie thinking I will lose more weight.
