  1. I know you are right @Newme17. I think once I get to my goal weight I might try to do some toning with some weights. I know I will need it. I think you are on the right path now with focusing on your health. I wish I would have started 10 years ago. guess what happened today on my girls day out??? My daughter told me I am gonna be a grandma again😃 This will be grandchild number 4. My daughter has her first three kids very spaced out. Destiny is 16, Isaiah is 10, Malaya is 9 months, and this one is due in February!! She told me this will be the last one. I am so happy. This was the best day ever.
  2. You are rocking it!! That gym time must make a difference too! I am envious of those that can workout in the gym. I have always felt intimidated whenever I have gone to a gym. I could go to the base gym for free, but I never do. I always feel so self conscious around all the fit bodies... it is so stupid and all in my head, but that is why I bought the elliptical machine.
  3. Thank you for the tip on the lavender oil. I am going to find some today. I am loosing in my boobs too! I guess I will just have to wait and see how the body looks when I get to goal. I keep wavering back and forth in my mind as to whether I am too old to be worried about some loose skin and sagging boobs? But I am only 49 so I still have some good years ahead of me... my daughter tells me to just go for it. She thinks it is great that I am putting myself first for once.

    TMI but I'm freaking out

I know this sounds gross, but a latex glove and your gentle hands would be better and less embarrassing than a doctors. I would try the enema first, but I have had to clean myself out before and usually only have to do it once to get things moving. I know how miserable you are right now. I pray things get moving today for you.
  5. That is so awesome @patty0715. This must be the lucky week because my scale has been moving down also!!!

    Concerned Mom

I think you should definitely not remove your daughter from your insurance. That is not supporting her at all. I think the best way you can help her is to encourage her to seek therapy for her food addictions or mental issues surrounding eating, and then be there for her on the tough days when she needs you!! She has made a decision to do something about her weight issues at an age where she can really change the rest of her life for the good. Have you looked at the statistics of people who lose weight by diet and exercise? Most gain all of their weight back and then some. A common theme on this forum is that most people wish they would have had surgery many years before they did. Your daughter is an adult now, and if she has gone through all of the pre-op classes and has qualified for surgery I think you need to support her completely. If you don't she will resent you, I know I would. The complication rates for sleeve surgery are really low. Have you gone with her to any appointments and spoken with the doctor? Maybe this would help ease some of your fears.

    opinions on fruit?

This is true, but to a diabetics body sugar is sugar and it doesn't matter where it comes from. Fruit is natures candy. I love fruit, but I have to be really careful with it. I eat a small portion of blue berries or strawberries, once in a while as these have the least effect on my bs.

How long did it take to shower after surgery?

I showered the next morning after my surgery with zero issues. I was even allowed to gently wash my incisions.

    8 days out!!

Congrats!!! It is pretty dang awesome huh? Don't freak out when you hit the 2-3 week stall. It happens for most people some where in that time frame. For me it was in between weeks 2-3. I have started losing again this week and I am staying in this groove as long as I can ..lol
  10. Happy Sabbath!!!

I must be in the zone right now with weight loss. I have been losing a pound to a pound and a half a day the past three days. I was at 192 yesterday morning and today 190.5! I guess my body likes what I am doing right now so I will keep at it. I decided I want to get a haircut and style before my dh gets back from his trirp. I want to surprise him with a new look. I am thinking about getting highlights and going a little shorter. I am excited and nervous at the same time..lol..

This is awesome news. I hope my body is doing the same, since I don't weigh, I'll be getting my update on the 6th of July. 😊 Keep at it!

and you should get that little makeover, how fun!!!

Go get the highlights!! Keep up the good work!

  11. Welcome back!! I haven't been on a road trip yet, but my advice would be to just be prepared with plenty of healthy snacks just in case. I have eaten out a couple of times and I think it is fairly easy to stay on plan. Where are you going? I hope you have a great time!

    Need Puree Ideas

Hello and welcome. I love the ricotta bake, cottage cheese, yogurt, egg salad, tuna salad, refried beans with cheese, I cooked up some homemade soups and blended them. Scrambled eggs with cheese is also pretty good. If you google recipes for the purée stage you will get many.
  13. Hi there @Sweet as peaches. I had a pretty normal Friday at work. I am glad the weekend is here. It sounds like you and your daughter enjoyed her day off from school. My grandchildren are out of school all ready for the summer. How did your dancing go today?
  14. I know you probably can't wait to have the finishing touches done in your kitchen. Isn't it great to have a handy husband? My dh and I have done many home improvement projects together over the years. He recently tiled our bathrooms and I love it. It is going to be 90 here by Sunday so the heat is coming East. Sounds like you had a good workout today walking in the heat. It will be interesting to see if my heat tolerance changes this summer. The past two years since my hysterectomy I haven't dealt with hot weather well. I had major hot flashes, but since surgery I have been much cooler. It is almost like my set point was reset cooler. That is awesome you are down a size. I am too. Do you think you will have loose skin anywhere? I am most worried about my tummy. I think my arms and thighs are gonna be fine because I carried most of my weight in my belly. Are any of you putting any lotions or anything on your incision scars? I don't know what would be best to buy?

What Was on Your Friday Menu?

Breakfast- coffee w/ half and half, protein shake lunch- I was super busy at work today so I just had a cheese stick and turkey stick. snack- Dannon light yogurt dinner- roasted chicken thigh with a Lemmon butter pepper sauce, riced cauliflower. Snack- finished up the other half of my dinner..lol

    Feeling defeated

Are you allowed yogurt? I was allowed yogurt during my 2 weeks on liquids post-op. Also well blended creamed soups really helped to fill me up. You can do this!!
  17. I had a great experience with Dr. Illan in Mexico. Complications can happen anywhere and aren't always the fault of the doctor. If I could have afforded surgery closer to home I would have done it though, just because it would be easier to get follow up care.

    No Weight Loss

I would stop weighing everyday if it stresses you out. As long as you are following your plan you will start losing again. Focus on NSV such as looser clothing, less painful joints, much smaller grocery bill....
  19. It is definitely challenging when you are a diabetic and have limited food choices. What medications were you taking before surgery? My doctor told me not everyone is able to stop their medications after surgery. Some will still need them to keep bs controlled. I hope this isn't the case for you.
  20. TGIF. I made it through the first week of my hubby's two week trip. I have had a hard time cooking just for me and I ended up with a lot of leftover food that I did not want to eat. My chickens were happy though..lol..  one more week till hubby gets home. Tomorrow afternoon my daughter, granddaughter, and I are gonna have a girls day out and have lunch and a mani/pedi.

i cant believe Monday will be one month post-op already! I think the time has flown by and I feel like my stomach has healed quickly. I have not had any problems at all eating soft meats and vegetables. I am planning to add tuna salad, and I would like to try some tender steak next week.

I cleaned out my closet of all the size 14 and above pants, and the 2x-3x tops. I am comfortably wearing a size 12 jean and extra large top. I have pants in size 10, 8, and 6, that I saved, and I have medium and large tops, so I won't need to do any shopping right away. I stepped on the scale this morning and it was 192. if I lose another pound before Monday that will put me at 17 pounds lost this first month. I am very happy with that!!.

Time to go hop on the elliptical and get the heart pumping,,,

Awww....enjoy the girls day out tomorrow. I had a mani/pedi with my 7 year old last weekend.

Isn't it amazing, 17lbs! At least you've got clothes. Lol. I hate hanging on to anything, so I got rid of all my 8's and 10's about 7 years ago. Wait a sec, I have one pair of 10's I kept. They're my favorite. So I look forward to that. You'll get to save money at least.

Hope you had a great workout!

I saved all of my clothes when I started gaining weight. It does make it easier for me as I lose because I won't have to rush out and buy things while I am still losing. I am progressing well on the elliptical. My legs don't feel like jello now like they did the first week lol.

    3. Newme17

      Newme17

No more jello is great!!! Lol. I love the elliptical, but sadly, had to let it go. I think it contributed to my hip bursitis. Enjoy it for me!!!!

  21. Choose the shakes and yogurt with the least amount of carbs. That is really all you can do until you are able to eat more variety. Once you are moved up to puréed and soft you can eat meat and vegetables Puréed well. Things like tuna salad, scrambled eggs, chicken salad, refried beans, cheeses.
  22. THat sounds like a lot of carbs in one day for a diabetic. I have not gotten anywhere close to that many carbs in a day. I would try to get your carbs down to 30 total for a day and see if that helps. Are you walking? Are on any medication? I think you should probably talk to your doctor. You haven't said if you are taking any medications?
  23. I see now that your surgery was ten days ago. Have your bs been normal and just today started going up? For me I have been keeping my daily carbs less then 30g mainly because of just focusing on protein and I haven't had a reading above 110. I would keep an eye on your levels and report it to your doctor if they don't come down.
  24. How many carbs are in the yogurt and protein shakes? Believe it or not some shakes have a lot of sugar. Are still taking your diabetes medication? How long ago was your surgery? Stress and healing can cause some people's bs to rise. I would talk to your doctor if it doesn't come down. Not everyone is able to stop their medication after WLS. I hope this helps.
  25. My previous pastor was morbidly obese. He was a great spiritual leader, but his weight did limit his activity and therefore his ability to participate in some functions. I believe most of our church family would have supported him if he had chosen to have WLS. There will always be those that are negative and it can be hard because they always seem to be the loudest voices. I think you should be honest with your congregation if you feel comfortable doing so. It is a personal decision that only you can make. i don't see anything wrong with keeping it to yourself either if that is what you decide.
