I think it awesome that this forum has veteran members that can share that there are many different ways to be successful after WLS. The decision on how anyone newly post-op will proceed is ultimately up to them. I think certain personalities lend themselves to being more structured and others not so much. I don't think there is a right or wrong answer. I do think we all have to figure out what is going to work well and help us to be successful. If something isn't working change it up and see if doing something different works better.

My hypothyroidism is controlled with medication so I doubt it is that. Maybe hormones, either way My temperature control is different post op.

I am never hungry in the morning and at first I was forcing myself to eat. What I do now is just eat lunch earlier. My schedule looks like this breakfast- 6:30-7:30 on my commute to work. Coffee. Lunch-11:00-11:30- usually leftovers always protein. Snack-3:30-4-30 on my commute home a protein shake or cheese stick ect Dinner- 6:30-7:30 always protein and veggies Snack- only if I am hungry always protein. This is just a general schedule. Life happens and we need to adjust. I don't feel very hungry on some days and I have to remember to eat, other days I do feel hunger. It definitely takes some getting used to.

I have thyroid issues also. I have Hasimottos. I feel really great on this low carb lifestyle. My fasting BS are usually 84-86. That never happened pre surgery even with my meds. -

It sounds like you are getting enough. I slept 8 hours last night😊 I feel almost like I got too much sleep. Well I will need it today. I'm picking up my granddaughter in a little while and she is so close to walking now. I will need my energy to keep up with her. Have a great Saturday everyone! -

How many Carbs a day ?
Apple1 replied to ayanna_vsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sugar is already included in the Total carbs, as is fiber. That is why you subtract the fiber. You don't add the sugar back, that would be counting it twice. -
I drank a lot of homemade broths the first week post op. Most people do not meet their protein goal the first week. Just do the best you can. There are clear protein drinks you can buy. Isopure is one brand. I didn't like them, but some people do. Things will definitely get better once you are able to eat puréed foods. Hang in there.

Not my bum, but my lower back has been hurting the past week or so. I think my posture is changing or something. -
How many Carbs a day ?
Apple1 replied to ayanna_vsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am averaging between 15-25g net carbs daily. Net carbs are total carbs minus the fiber. Many people do well on a low carb keto diet. I get most of my daily carbs from vegetables and the rest from dairy. -
I use an inexpensive digital scale I got at Walmart. I am from the camp that weighs and logs their food. I feel like this is the best way for me to be accountable and I want to have this data. I was lousy with portion control and by weighing my food I don't have to worry about over eating. I personally don't trust myself to be able to moderate portions without this tool. Maybe a year or two from now portion sizes will be easy and I won't need to do this as much, but for now it is piece of mind. Not everyone needs or wants to do this. People should figure out what works for them and then stick with it. This is not a diet to me. It is a lifestyle change and the scale and food logs are just tools, like the sleeve, to help me be successful.

Here is my fajitas with home made guacamole. I wanted to try the healthy tortilla. I ended up only eating a couple bites. It was good, but it would have filled my sleeve up too quick. I was only able to eat half of the filling. -

I do remember that. I was driving so I wasn't really paying close attention to how fast I was drinking it. -

Me too. It sucks because I actually like the chocolate shakes. I will probably try it one more time just to see if it happens again. But I will be sure and drink it slower. -

I tried to stop the protein shakes, but it is easier to drink one and hit my goal for the day so I started drinking them again. -
