  1. None of that looks normal to me at all. Glad you are calling your doctor.
  2. @Newme17 you are correct in your description of the Peruvian culture. My husbands grandmother spoke Quechua and it is obvious in the way his family looks that they have a strong native Incan influence in their genetics. Other Peruvians may have a stronger Spanish influence, but many are very mixed. My dh speaks Spanish and English, but he can still remember his grandmother speaking the old native Quechua language. Food is an important part of the culture. My dh has always told me that in the USA we don't know how to have a party or celebrate. He remembers celebrations that would last 2-3 days and it would be the whole street with so much food, music, and dance. I could listen to his stories about growing up in Peru all day long as I find it very interesting. I am off to have my run and then pack up and head home. I am praying the traffic isn't too bad. Have a good day everyone 😊

Are You Still Seeing Your NUT?

Crackers were a regular snack for me in the past. I love any kind of cheese on any kind of cracker lol. I will not be eating any crackers any time soon.
  4. I pray your mom is healed from her cancer. I will add her to the prayer list at my church. I think it is awesome that she is thinking about the sleeve surgery. It sounds like you have had a busy weekend!! It is good that you were able to catch up on some rest. Sometimes a long nap is just what our bodies need. I have had such a great weekend. Spending time with my husbands family has been fun. We went to a Peruvian restaurant tonight and the food was great.
  5. I added ground turkey to mine the last time I made it. It was delicious. I am thinking about trying it with thinly sliced zucchini and layering it like lasagna. I might sub in some Italian sausage also. I am still taking an OTC acid blocker because I am chicken to go without it yet.

    Is something wrong with me?

This has been my experience also. I have only had one time where I drank my protein shake a little too fast and ended up with some cramps. It has been smooth sailing for me.
  7. I had my first fast food today since post-op. I ordered the pico-guac grilled chicken sandwich at McDonald's in the Air and Space Museum. I didn't eat the bun and was only able to eat half. I think I made a healthy choice. I rarely eat fast food so I wasn't at all familiar with what to order. I am finding that it is pretty easy to find things to order no matter where we eat. We are doing some serious walking And it is super hot and humid so hydration has been my main focus. We ended up getting a Uber back to our hotel because it was just so oppressively humid this afternoon. I am hoping to get up early and do my morning run on the mall by the capital building and the monument.

    Numbness?

I had the same numb sensation near one of my incisions. It is back to normal now almost 7 weeks post-op.

    Sleeping after surgery

Sometimes it helps to use a body pillow. I was able to sleep on my side about day 3 post-op using a pillow.
  11. Sounds like you have a great day planned. We are headed to D.C. In a few hours. Have a great weekend!!!

I don't know what to do

I can certainly relate to how you are feeling Joan. I didn't realize how much time I spent pre surgery eating. There have been days I just didn't know what to do with myself. We are learning so much about ourselves now that we just took for granted before. I have started running and this is giving me something else to focus on. Maybe a new hobby would help?
  13. Monday will be 7 weeks since my surgery. A lot has happened in this short amount of time, so much, that Sometimes I just shake my head in amazement. I have lost 46 pounds since January 1rst and 21 since surgery. I am down to a size 12 from a 14-16 in January, and I am so close to wearing a large top I can taste it...lol..

I am exercising almost daily and last week I started the C25K program. I never thought I would be running, but I absolutely love it! I have so much more energy now and I feel so much better about myself. The scale does not stress me out at all. It is just a number I record every week. I am much more confident in myself as I know I am eating right and moving my body.

my dh and I are headed to D.C. Today to meet up with his brother and sister and nephew. They are in town for a few days and it is so close to us we couldn't miss this opportunity to spend a couple days with them. My husbands sister is a marathon runner so it will be nice to pick her brain about getting started with running. This will be the weekend getaway that we didn't get to have for our anniversary last month.

    Have a great weekend everyone😃

  14. Yes it is😊 I am happy for you too @Newme17. I had to buy some new bras. The old ones were just not working anymore. I was shocked at how expensive good bras are??? I have earned my first two blisters this morning😩 I need to buy some socks that have tabs that will protect the back of my ankles. You know what is great? The scale is moving up since I started running and I don't even care. I am getting fit and I know it will start moving down again once my body adjusts.

    Coffee?

I waited 3 weeks to have a regular coffee. I drank decaf on day 3. I drink 3 cups a day now with zero issues.
  16. Thank you @Newme17. I am planning on signing up for a race this Fall sometime. My goal right now is just to complete the race and not walk...lol I am just amazed at the things I am doing now that just a short time ago I would never have dreamed of. 😊 I am going to stop and try on some shoes tonight. I had plantar fasciitis in both of my feet a few years ago so I amnot going to risk it. I was trying on some of my old clothes last night and I am only a few pounds or inches away from wearing many tops that are a size large!! It has been so many years since there hasn't been an X in front of my shirt size.

    SAIL INTO SUMMER CHALLENGE

6/30/17 186.5 I was as low as 185 earlier in the week. I started the couch to 5k, and gained back a pound and a half!! That is ok though because this journey isn't just about losing weight. I want to be fit and healthy.
  18. I like it a lot. I haven't done any running since 2005 when I was a skinny person so I am truly starting from the couch. Running at 5:30 am while the whole neighborhood is sleeping was enjoyable. I didn't expect to feel so invigorated and I thought it would be much harder than it was. I feel so amazing for the whole day after running. I never would have dreamed I would be thinking about running a 5k. I have just completed week 1 and I think I am going to repeat the 3rd run on wk 1 again before advancing on. I need to buy a decent pair of running shoes though because I have read that many injuries happen because of the wrong shoes. I think you will like the program and you can advance at your own pace so don't be afraid to start slowly. I feel like you are probably much more fit than I am so you should do well.
  19. So the bite didn't effect you negatively? I have been afraid to try anything with sugar. That looks like it was worth a taste for sure!! One of my co-workers likes to go pick cherries and there was a bowl sitting in the break room this week.
  20. Wow this post is full of errors. I must of been really tired when I posted this...lol
  21. I have definitely had some me days where I can't seem to eat a normal amount. Newme and I were just posting about eating to fast and feeling the affect s of that. If it keeps up I would call your doctor and tell him/her what is going on. I hope it passes and isn't anything to worry about.
  22. Glad to hear your surgery went well. You have a very positive attitude and that is great!
  23. I have several different meats that I really like. I vary the seasonings or way that I cook them to change things up. Grilled chicken Grilled or baked salmon smoked turkey sausage grilled steak ( I make fajitas frequently) I like egg salad, egg omelettes, tuna salad.
  24. @Joann454 I started researching this today after your post and I found this article with links to other literature http://www.ketotic.org/2014/12/the-effect-of-ketogenic-diets-on.html?m=1 It may be that lower T3 while on. Keto diet is a good thing. I am still researching, but I wanted to share this with you.
  25. Thank you so much for posting this. I need to read up about this. I know the low carb is great for my type 2 diabetes, but I don't want to mess up my control of my Hashimoto disease. When you refeed, how many more gram of carbs do you eat? Are you just eating more dairy?
