If you don't own a scale and why?
Apple1 replied to Cateyez001's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This worked for me. You learn how your body works day to day so you get used to seeing the ups and downs. -
I have veggie spiral tool that makes them. It is super easy and they taste great as a replacement for pasta in almost any dish. I even slice zucchini thinly and layer it for a lasagna dish.

Praying for a fast recovery for you. Thanks for posting this as a warning to everyone to go to the ER if they aren't sure about the symptoms they are having. -
Which behavioral topic was most helpful pre-op?
Apple1 replied to GenJones's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
For me I think eating patterns and behaviors would be a good pre-op class. Many times we don't even realize how we are eating until we consciously think about it. Second would be mindset and motivation. I think when the going gets rough we will need this to help remember why we had the surgery, and also to set small attainable goals to keep us moving. -

This two time over!!!! Depending on brand I am either a L, XL, or 2X. I tried to order some tank tops online and went by their sizing charts and what some reviewers had said.... big fail. I was trying to save a little money and time, but I have learned you have to try everything on. -
I lost 24# in 8 weeks and I am over the moon. I can't remember when the last time was that I lost 12 # a month? The greatest part though is how good I feel. I haven't felt this healthy in probably 10 years. I have ditched 2 diabetes medications and I am looking forward to my morning runs. I never thought I would ever be saying these things.

If you don't own a scale and why?
Apple1 replied to Cateyez001's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This is how I feel. By weighing myself everyday I see the variations and I don't freak out when I am bouncing back and forth between 1-3 pounds. I only record my weight on Monday mornings, but I like weighing once per day just to see the pattern. I don't stress about the numbers, -
If I remember correctly he said using protein shakes for the first several months was fine, but we should wean ourselves away from them once we can eat enough protein from Whole Foods. I agree but I also think keeping a few low carb shakes in an otherwise healthy diet won't hurt me.
-
I enjoy a high protein coffe shake every morning. It gives me 20g of protein and 2 shots of expresso to start my day. This is an improvement for me as I used to skip breakfast altogether.

This is just my opinion and my experience, I am not a nutritionist so keep that in mind. I would eat the pepperoni and cheese melted and leave the crust. Have a small amount of this and see if it satisfies your craving. I don't think finding healthy alternatives to the foods we loved is bad as long as it doesn't lead us to over eat or constantly indulge head hunger. For me I am focusing on learning to love all the healthy foods I have to choose from and staying away from trigger foods all together. This doesn't mean I will never have a bite of something in the future, but I really want to leave those foods behind for the most part. I have started running and I am developing a habit toward fitness and spending time with that.

I am a carnivore through and through, but I am also trying to incorporate more vegetable only meals into my week. I am focusing on fish , chicken, and turkey and trying to reduce the frequency that i eat red meats. Thank you for your comments. It is hard sometimes to communicate well through written word without offending people, even when your intentions were to help. I have failed at this many times. some posters are more direct, but most of the time their advice is good and I wouldn't discount it.

Sleeve completed 7/6 & they are ready to send me back to work 7/18
Apple1 replied to lilbigprsn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think many people are ready to go back to work at 2 weeks so that is probably why the date was set. You have to listen to your body and do what is best for you. Not everyone heals as quickly as others and some people deal with fatigue for quite a while after surgery. I was blessed because I felt really good and had very little pain post-op. I was more than ready at 2 weeks to return to work. If you have the time take and need it then for sure stay home until you feel the time is right. -
Very happy for you!! You will be replacing fat with muscle so that is a good thing! As long as you are happy with your body composition that is all that matters. I hope you continue to share your progress.

I want to offer a little tough love here. You can completely ignore this if you want, but it comes from a place of having been there and done that and wanting to warn you. Consuming two krispy cream donuts in a day is not cheating, it is binging with the size stomachs that we have. In fact the size of your stomach is probably the only thing that stopped you from eating more. Before I had WLS I tried to follow various diets like most everyone, and the first sign that I was losing my willpower was allowing sweets back into my diet. Once you start you know how hard it is to stop. You have this window of opportunity to change your eating habits and relationships with food. Stay strong think about the reasons why you wanted to lose weight and get healthy. Are they worth eating a krispy cream donut? Focus on the plan your doc/nut have you and be successful.

The Suthwest one looks yummy. I haven't seen those yet in our grocery stores. I buy the steam in the bag veggies all the time. It saves so much time. Five minutes in the microwave and boom done. -

I made salmon and Parmesan crusted squash for dinner. To think I used to eat similar sized portions as my dh, maybe a little less, but not much. -

My internet is 89 a month!! It is highway robbery 😡 But my provider is the only one available to me where I am located. I wish some competition would come! -
Many of us have medical reasons for wanting to shed the fat. It is unhealthy to be obese. Also many obese people have type 2 diabetes or pre diabetes and the carbs in bread and sugar would not be healthy for them. I congradulate you for finding the plan that works for you. I know I can chose to eat the way that works better for me and I am. I just don't want anyone newly post op to think they can just throw caution to the wind and eat like this. I would gain weight if I ate those types of foods.
-
I would consider a lot of what you have listed here as junk food or processed foods. There is a lot of bread and sugar. These types of food are not healthy by my definition of healthy foods and they would not help me with any of my goals. if you can eat that much bread and be fine well that is just great. I am happy that you are happy and have found a lifestyle that works for you.

Weight Stand Still
Apple1 replied to chamilton0323's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just make sure you are following your plan for diet and exercise and you will lose. Stalls are common and everyone loses at their own pace. I stall at least once a month for 10 days, but I am still losing inches. Measure yourself as a way to keep motivated if the scale isn't moving. Definitely stay away from sugar, bread, pasta, rice, potatoes. Those carbs will definitely not help you. -
Congrats!!! I know how happy you must be with those numbers. I can't wait to have my A1C tested in November. I am off all of my meds and my bs are normal now.
