  1. Definitely start weighing your food if it will help solve that issue with one bite too many. I think this is a constant learning situation for a while. I had an experience on Monday where I almost vomited for the first time because I ate too much salad. I had weighed it out, but I guess when it comes to salad 3ozis too much. I was eating too fast or I probably would have noticed I was getting full. Are you tired because you worked out or had a rough day at work? Maybe up your protein a little bit and see if that helps? I sure hope you feel better tomorrow.

    I've Lost It Today!

No it wasn't you. Someone else on this thread said don't listen to all the idiots giving advice about what not to eat. It's ok though. I have tough skin. I just brought it up to make a point.

    I've Lost It Today!

I never extrapolated anything. I commented based on the information in the original post. I was simply wanting to offer a caution to the OP. She replied with more information and said she was fine case closed. I don't think my post was out of line at all. It isn't about making someone feel guilty, but offering honest advice while also not just saying hey don't worry it is ok to go ahead and eat a couple of donuts if you want as long as you feel ok about it. Did you read the link Greensleevie posted? I have heard very similar advice from veterans and great doctors alike. We can't keep eating junk and expect to be successful long term. A treat once in awhile sure, we are all human. Will we make mistakes? You betcha, but I would hope my support system of friend here would speak up and tell it to me straight especially if I posted about it. I always try to be respectful in any post I make or advice I give, but it doesn't even matter because giving advice gets you called an idiot around here.
  4. I have to respectfully disagree. It don't believe we all fit into this category at all.

I certainly wasn't guilt shaming anyone . My point was that we can't continue eating junk and expect to be successful long term. The link that was posted was good reading and great advice for all of us.

    I've Lost It Today!

Thank you for posting this link. I know I am still early in the process, but I have been doing my research and Dr. Weiner says the same things. You can't keep eating the same foods that got you overweight to begin with. You must change your eating habits to have long term success.

So everyone here that gives advice to those who post for help are idiots??? I don't even have an answer for that except. Good luck.

    I've Lost It Today!

I agree a treat once in a while is not going to hurt anyone, but the OP said she ate 2 donuts. In my mind that is way more than a treat. Honestly most people of a healthy weight don't pig out on sweets that is why they are a healthy weight. The further out you get from surgery the more you will be able to eat so I am guarding against getting back into the habits that got me overweight in the first place. I intend to live my life to the fullest also and the only way that is going to happen is if I maintain a healthy sustainable diet and exercise program. I am happy that you are able to indulge and keep losing weight that is great. I feel better than I have in 10 years so I will keep doing what works for me. There are no chains on me and never will be. We all make our own decisions everyday.
  9. I understand what you all are trying to convey, but I also understand where Jeffrey is coming from. I don't think it is a bad thing to be determined to conquer our weight problems. Enthusiasm and motivation is never a bad thing. Sure as newbies we can't know the future and we need to be making the changes now that will stick with us and always be aware of the pitfalls. I am not doing this for anyone's compliments so for me when they stop I am going to be perfectly finewith that. My motivation is my health and getting fit. I think we are all on the same page here. We must remain vigilant because as time goes by it will be easier to over eat and gain weight back. Establish the good habits now with diet and exercise so we will have a solid foundation going into maintenance.
  10. You got some great answers here so I'll just add that my experience mirrors them. Dense protein fills me up fast and most times I can only eat 2-2.5oz and then 1 oz of veggies. I usually put 4oz on my plate, but even now at 9 weeks post-op I don't always finish it.
  11. I use cauliflower rice at least twice a week. Zucchini noodles work well in so many recipes and definitely fill the void for pasta. I am getting to the point where I don't crave those foods anymore at all.
  12. I wonder if this true for individuals that weren't always heavy, but gained their weight due to thyroid issues and developing insulin resistance? I started gaining weight at 39-40 and just couldn't get it off. I have no doubt that maintenance is going to be hard. That is why I am doing my best to take the advice of the vets here. I am developing good habits and have started running 4 days a week. I hope these things will be enough to help me when I get there.
  13. Ok, I need some accountability from my friends here. I am starting to want to buy every cute running outfit I see, and I just bought a new pair of running shoes just so I can rotate between three, and of course they are all different colors so they match what I am wearing. I need to get a handle on this fast because this isn't like me. I can talk myself into buying these things easily by telling myself it is for a good cause, but really I don't need a different outfit for every day of the week and these are all summer outfits.

I am running late today. I just finished my run and I am supposed to be on my way to work. I need to hit the shower. I am glad I have confessed my sins to y'all...lol... have a great day.

@Newme17 yep, it's pretty bad. A UPS truck parked in front of my building yesterday and I get deliveries so often I assumed it was for me and was going to buzz him into my building until I saw him walking in the other direction.

@MSinger lol.. I must stay off Amazon. I have one more delivery coming tomorrow and then I am done shopping until Christmas like I said.

@OutsideMatchInside you are right about waiting to buy too much. I didn't have any workout clothes though so I needed to buy a few. I went overboard for sure. I have tons of tips hanging in my closet from before I gained weight that I am just waiting to fit into. I am glad I saved everything.

  14. I do that too, but then I remember that i rarely play the lottery lol. It could happen though and for sure we would have a blast!
  15. The only issue I have with eating is when I forget and eat too fast. I end up with this tightness in my chest and I have to walk around for a few minutes. I have been trying very hard to avoid this. what exactly has been your problems? Have you talked with your doctor about it?
  16. You have to stop posting this food porn lol ( joking). @Newme17 I need to take cooking lessons from you because your dishes always look 😊 so yummy.
  17. Congrats and welcome @JoJo_C. You are the first man to post on our thread. I hope you will stick around and join us.
  18. I was 183 this morning so 25 lbs down since surgery. 😃
  19. Congrats on losing 2 pounds this week @Newme17. That is awesome☺️ I am averaging 1-1.5 lately with 10 days of no loss in between. I am fine with that. I really wish we all lived closer so we could meet up and support each other. You all keep me motivated and I thank you!!
  20. I wish I could eat this right now lol. My mouth is watering.
  21. I have Hashimotos and I am eating LCHF or Keto. I am limiting my carbs to 30-35g daily and I feel like I am doing well. I don't crave carbs anymore at all. I eat about 1-2oz of veggies at lunch and dinner and it seems to be enough. I also take a probiotic and that has helped tremendously with keeping me regular.
  22. Personally I think it is a combination of mindset, never changing their relationships with food, and laziness. Processed and fast food is easy. My mindset is the changes I am making now must be for life. These changes are not a diet, they are a healthy lifestyle. I know plenty of people that eat healthy and don't indulge in junk food or sweets and they have never had a weight problem. I don't understand why some people consider healthy food selections and portions as a restrictive diet mentality?

    7 months out

Congrats!!! You look great. Feeling better is probably the best NSV there is. I feel the same at only 9 weeks post-op.
  24. I noticed something this morning, I haven't been checking my blood sugar as often as I usually do. It has been my habit for the past 3.5 years to check it as soon as I get up and 2 hours after eating either lunch or dinner. I am falling out of the habit because every time I check, it is awesome. I checked my meter just now and my 30 day average is 88 with N=37. In the past N would have been at least 60, but usually closer to 70. I guess I am getting more confident in the realization that I really don't need to take any medications to have a stable, great, and completely normal non-diabetic blood sugar reading.

I ran my longest distance this morning 2.5 miles. My pace is still really slow because I am running for 5 minutes and walking for 1.5 minutes, rinse and repeat. I am ahead of schedule with the C25K. When the program tells me my workout is complete to begin cool down, I run another segment of run/walk. I just don't feel ready to stop and want to increase my mileage. I am amazed at how energetic I feel on the days I run as opposed to my rest days. Yesterday I was a sloth all day. Saturday is my Sabbath day so I observe the day of rest completely. The only thing I did yesterday was go to church, post here, and read. I felt sluggish all day. I have decided I need to watch less TV. It just encourages me to be lazy. I am going to limit my time in front of the TV to 1 hour every other day. I want to be more productive in other areas of my life and this is one way to do it.

    Have a great Sunday everyone!

i think they're past injuries. I could workout and get over the soreness. The aces and pains I have now are muscle soreness, but my bones and joints, possibly the tendons in my feet too. But despite the pain, I won't stop. I'll continue going and hope it just goes away and hope I'm wrong too. I know I'm not as strong as I used to be, so thats playing a role. I have to get stronger before I get any older.

I need to get stronger too @Newme17. I used to be able to do 45 sit ups and now it hurts after 5. I got a cramp so bad one night after doing them my dh thought I was dying. It brought tears to my eyes.

Anytime you want to come down your are welcome to run with me @Sweet as peaches. It would be so much fun. My dh would run with me on the weekends but he had knee surgery 2 years ago and he can't run without pain.

I love this status update! It's hard to let the old habits die, but it's good you still checked your sugars. Your running progress is so inspiring too :)
