  1. I am pretty much the same. Nothing really bothers my sleeve, but I do have restriction and I purposely don't eat more than 4-5oz at a meal depending on what I am eating. This way I am satisfied, but not over full.

    5 months and struggling

You are very welcome. We all need encouragement and support at times throughout our journeys. This is not easy!! I know everyone has their own unique struggles to overcome, but we all can relate in one way or another. I'm glad you are doing better.
  4. I am running 4-5 days a week. I didn't start until about 5 weeks post-op. I would start slow and gradually work your way up. I just sip fluids practically all day long. I don't run in the heat of the day either, I run early in the morning. I think you need to match your activity level to how many calories you are eating. I can run 12-13 miles a week on 1000 calories with no problem. Remember most of us have plenty of stored fat to burn for energy.
  5. Yesterday was 3 months post-op. I have lost 35 lbs since my surgery and 82 lbs since August of last year. I am so happy that I decided to do this for myself. I am healthier than I have been in years and I feel amazing.

I was eating a low carb diet since December of last year and recently decided to transition to a whole foods plant based diet after reading the book Proteinaholic and  doing my own research. I have an incredible support system for this change as my circle of friends from church are all vegans/vegetarians. At this point my daily carb consumption has gone from 30g to about 55-70g and my protein has dropped from 80-85 down to 50-55. My blood sugar control has remained perfect despite the increase in complex carbs. I continue to avoid sugar, white flour, bread, white rice, and pasta.

My weight loss has actually picked up this past week, but this may just be a coincidence. I feel really good. The only slight negative I can note is am a little more drained after a run and have been unable to run my long distance of 3 miles yet. I have been sticking to 2-2.5 miles for now. I think my body is still adjusting to the change.

I am going to post my photo because a couple of people have requested before and after pics.  It is hard looking back, but it does help show us just how far we have come and what a difference a year can make.

    Bad acne after VSG

It is from the fat breakdown. I used extra cleansers and it cleared up by 6 weeks post. I still get an occasional pimple but it is much better now.

    Second Guessing not doing RNY

If you are unsure maybe you should talk to your doctor again. I know this is a tough decision and it is life changing. I am very happy I had the surgery. Getting off my diabetes medication and having it stay in remission has been the motivation to keep me going. I never want to go back! Are you working with a therapist on your relationship with food? Some people find therapy really helps and is essential.
  8. I would look for a Good willor other such second hand store. They often have stuff for a fraction of the cost of new. Some churches also have clothing exchanges.
  9. Congrats!! 63 pounds wow!! You must feel great.
  10. 🤣 OMG that must hurt now! I hate going to the dentist. Your story has reminded me that I need to go and get my teeth cleaned soon.
  11. Thank you 😊 It is nice, but a little hard to be reminded just how big I let myself get. I won't let that happen again.
  12. You look great!! I see such a big difference. Beautiful lady😊
  13. Ok, I downloaded a program to help me with the photos. I realized I did not take a 2 month photo😩, I did find a photo of myself from last year around this time to compare. I cannot believe how big I was.
  14. You look fabulous😃 So nice to see your photos. I am working on mine.
  15. You look amazing. Congrats on your success!!
  16. I never used one of those. I didn't have much pain at all post-op. The only slight issue I had was gas pain and walking was the best cure for that. Some people might benefit from it though.

    Complication

very sorry to hear about your complications. I pray you heal soon and feel much better.

    Still obese

I think you look great. More importantly how do you feel? I have thought about my goal weight a lot these past few days and I don't really care where I end up. I feel amazing and I am enjoying the journey. I do think that as a society we have kind of gotten to the point where a normal BMI looks skinny to us. Yesterday I had someone tell me I should be careful and not lose too much weight. They thought my face looked to skinny.
  19. I'll have to research this more myself. It seems the fermented tofu is good alternative either way. I haven't eaten tofu before ( at least not on purpose) so I have no idea if I will even like it.
  20. Thank you for your kind words Sandra.
  21. I thought so too! I can see chopping it up with some veggies and making a Chinese type stir fry for sure. I need to go shopping at the Whole Foods store. I wish we has a Trader Joe's near by. I am going to try some tofu also. That web site had some recipes using it that looked delicious.
  22. Tomorrow will be 3 months!!! Is everyone going to post photos? I think I will have my dh take a good photo today.
  23. Congrats!!!!! I am so happy for you. Onederland feels great huh?
  24. I don't know what is going on, but I am dropping weight like crazy since I broke that last stall.

    8/7- 181

    8/10- 177.4

    8/11- 176

    8/13- 174

    8/14- 173.5

Is it a coincidence that I was eating mainly plant based on my week long camping trip, (we don't serve meat on any church activities), and decided to go fully whole foods plant based a few days after returning? I am really beginning to believe my body is telling me something here. I guess time will tell. I am starting to look ahead to maintenance as I think it is closer than I thought. I am now thinking that 150 may be to too low for me. when I hit 160 I will re-evaluate my goal. One thing I have noticed about eating this way is that I get fuller faster. It doesn't seem like that would be true, but it is. Maybe it is just because the foods are less calorie dense, but I have to eat more often to get the same amount of calories in as before and I feel fuller faster.

Anyway, so far so good. I feel really good and I am confident that I found the best diet that will be sustainable long term.

I think I dropped 2 sizes that month, at least, it wasn't just pounds it was a ton of inches too. Enjoy it. Your body will stop when it doesn't want to lose anymore, then you will be fighting another stall before you know it.

Me too! I hit a 4 week stall, kickstarted myself by going full liquid for 2 days and no artificial sweeteners and I have lost 12 pounds in 11 days. It feels great! Congrats!!!

And a size 8? That's my goal size!!!

    Low carb Vs. Calorie counting?

I believe this can happen. That is why I have been making sure to increase my calories a little as I go along. At 3 months post-op I think I am doing pretty good hitting 1000. I am going to attempt to be at 1200 by 6 months and then see where I am at. I think I will be at my goal weight by 6 months and then I will have to tackle maintenance. For some reason I thought it would take me longer to reach goal.
