May 15th, 2017 Sleevers Check in Here!!!
Apple1 replied to Newme17's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have days where I am slacking on my water intake also. I am back to my coffee and green tea habits. I am taking solace in that Dr. Greger says coffee is super healthy as is tea lol. I thought I was going into another stall myself, but the scale decided to move again after a couple of days at 170. It is mind blowing to be in the 160's. I can't remember exactly when the last time was, but it was at least 12-15 years ago. The fact that your clothes are still getting looser means you are burning off the inches😄 I also would love to hear from everyone that hasn't posted an update in a while. -
Check out this recipe: http://www.picklesnhoney.com/2015/01/19/chickpea-scramble-red-cabbage-brown-rice-bowls/ it look so yummy

Best way to Stop Losing Weight

I am not sure where I was last year but I know it was higher than my current 34%. I am sure you are losing fat!!! by the way I am not sure why the quotes in your last post say that was by me, but that was actually what Introversion said about herself. I am no where near 17.8%. -

Oh no 😞 So sorry to hear you hurt yourself. I hope it is not serious and just a twist that will heal quickly. Better to get an X-ray if it feels like it could be broken. -

Congrats on your weight loss and your pregnancy 😊 My daughter is due in February with my 4th grandchild! It will be interesting to see where my sweet spot ends up. I plan to continue my training and hope to run a half marathon in April. I will add resistance training and maybe yoga to help me along. -

This is encouraging for me that I can greatly improve my numbers through continued exercise and diet. In the grand scheme 34% is probably way better than where I was a year ago and I think a goal of under 30 in 6 months is achievable. I am going to make an effort to use my resistance bands every week and I will check out some beginners yoga videos on YouTube to see if it is something that will work for me. -
Yes, lol 😂 I thought of you when I first saw the app. I said this is something even @Newme17 might like. just check the boxes, no calories or exact weighted portions to track😃 I like it. I think this will be my go to app to help remind me to eat something from each group.

For those of you that are early out (less than 2 months) your stall will break without resorting to this type of reset. Stalls are very normal especially the 3 week stall. I didn't do anything to break mine except make sure I was on point with my plan and they all broke eventually within 2-3 weeks. Just saying, but I am sure it doesn't hurt to try to hurry them along.

So I finished listening to "How Not to Die". It was overall very good. Some of it got repetitive at times because he breaks each illness or disease down by chapter. Many of the foods that work to protect you from one cancer work for another also. The biggest take home message I got is that there are so many good reasons to eat whole plants, grains, nuts and seeds, and no good reasons to eat animal products. The author talks about sometimes eating less than perfect and believes if you are eating 80-90% WFPB that you are doing great. He has a Daily Dozen app for your phone if you want to track your consumption of the 12 foods he recommends. Well for us WLS patients there is no way we could consume all of the portions he thinks would be good on a daily basis. However, I am using it to see my weekly trends to make sure I am hitting something in all of his categories at least once or twice a week.

I need to try them also. Thus far I haven't found a veggie dog that I really like. I have found several veggie burgers that were tasty though.

Glad you are starting to return to a more normal routine. My hubby's National Guard unit is asking for volunteers to go to Houston and help with the clean up and other tasks. He may end up going, but to early to know just yet. I hope the government really steps up and helps everyone get back on their feet. -

or just keep body building.. He said runners and weight lifters usually have the highest RMR in his experience. He had a degree in exercise physiology. and he seemed very knowledgeable about the science of metabolism, and exercise. I could tell that he was a body builder. He suggested that I do some resistance training on the days I am not running to help with lowering my % of body fat. I know I should, but I haven't done it yet. -
I know. I have found so many recipes I would like to try, but I don't have time to cook them all. I want to make a goal to cook one or two new things each week.

I am definitely making those!!! They look delicious.

Best way to Stop Losing Weight
Apple1 replied to Apple1's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My thinking is I would rather lose slowly and preserve my metabolism then stay at starvation levels of calories and end up needing to eat 1200 calories for the rest of my life to maintain. I know there are people that gain weight at those levels, but I always wonder if they have un-diagnosed issues, like thyroid, adrenal, ect... -
I agree with this. I don't think anyone should despair. Simply making the effort to eat more fruits, veggies, seeds, nuts and whole grains and less meat is a great place to start. In fact the research shows that eating more of the whole foods helps to protect you from any damage eating some meat may otherwise cause. I am sure there will be some compromises in my future, but I am not going to stress about it. For now I am just enjoying the healthy ride I am on...lol..

I also asked the technician about calories and healthy metabolisms. He said you should never stay below 1200 for any length of time. Now he was not super experienced with WLS patients, but he felt that as soon as you could eat more healthy foods and get your calories up you should. I am glad that I have been able to eat in the 900-1200 range for the past few weeks. I am definitely going to make an effort to hit 1200 everyday. -

Yea, I'll be happy to move into the average category. This just means I need to build some more muscle. I knew going into this that I am weak..lol The surprise was how fast my metabolism was. I guess my thyroid meds are at the correct dose. It will be interesting to see how accurate this measurement really is once I start trying to maintain. @Berry78 I just wanted to thank you for always being so helpful to everyone on these forums. You are always offering encouragement when people need it and you go way beyond in posting great information. -
Best way to Stop Losing Weight

Ok so I just got back from my RMR and body scan. Believe it or not my RMR is 1970 😀 I was quite surprised at this, but the technician was not. He told me that people who run 3-5 days per week tend to have faster metabolism even at rest. so now the not so great news. My % body fat was 34 😞 Which sucks, but I am hoping to get it under thirty in the next 6 months continuing with my diet and exercise plan. So the take home message is that with my running I will probably need to consume somewhere close to 2300calories per day to stop losing weight. I am not sure how, but I am going to start by adding in an extra meal per day and see where that gets me. P.s. I do intend to get to my goal weight first before I worry to much about adding in more calories. -

Good luck with your race. I start training next week for a half marathon. I may try and find a 10k to sign up for half way through. Thus far the farthest I have run is 4mi and I do sip a little water at the 2 mi mark. I hope you will come back and let us know how you did. I am very interested in what worked for you as far as eating before the race. Right now I drink 8oz of a protein coffee shake before I run and the other 8 oz when I am done. It has worked so far, but I think I will need more when I start running further distances.

Any Vegetarians or Vegans Who've Had the Gastric Sleeve?
Apple1 replied to Frmbandtosleeve's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have been transitioning to WFPB for about 2.5 weeks. I am still eating a little bit of dairy mostly yogurt and whey protein which is in the shake I drink every morning. I was 3 months post-op on Aug. 15th, and I feel that because I am almost at goal already, and I am completely healed, there is no reason to consume more than about 50-55g of protein a day. I make a shake for breakfast which has 20g and then I am able to get another 25-35g through eating legumes, whole grain brown rice, fruits and veggie, nuts, and seeds.. I would not be able to consume enough food to meet my protein goals without drinking the morning shake everyday. My restriction is still too much to allow me to eat much more than I am. I think some people maybe able to eat more or even less so you will have to see how you do. I am doing fine eating this way and I am still losing weight. I am not hungry and I am not worried at all about my health or progress.
