    Daily Menus for Maintenance

Monday 2/3/20 I usually don't eat much fruit, but the past two days I have been loving these strawberries that a co-worker gave me. So sweet and delicious with the vanilla yogurt. The effect on my glycemic load for the day is huge though. I like to keep that under 6. 7 am- coffee/ cream 10 am- coffee/cream 12 pm- Alfredo chicken/ cauliflower rice 4 pm- 2 cheese sticks 6 pm- coffee/cream 7 pm- dannon light & fit yogurt with 5 strawberries 8 pm- handful of nuts- almonds, walnuts, pecans Calories-1019 Net Carbs- 28g Fiber- 5.2g Protein- 48g Fat- 70g Glycemic Load-9.1

    TOO SKINNY!!!

I second this post. I got down to 150 which is small for my height. I was in a size 6. I have gained 15 pounds back over the last year and I am working to get back down because I would prefer to be a the lower end.

    Can we blend tripe?

My husband tried to trick me into eating this once and the texture just made me gag. Lots of interesting foods are normal depending on where you are from. My dh is Peruvian and they eat guinea pigs. I don’t care to eat them, but the ceviche is delicious.

Fatigue and brain fog were my normal until I started on armour. Even being at the high end of the normal range or just above it, I feel so much better and more normal since starting the armour.

Sorry you are dealing with it also. I started on Levothyroxine, but it didn't lower my numbers at all and I could not function with it. I think I need to try a higher dose of the armour . My tsh has never been lower then 4.5-5 despite medication. I would love to get below 3 which is where I have read most people feel the best.

I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis which causes my metabolism to slow. I take 2 grains of Armour daily, but I still have barely in range labs.

@ms.sss I am amazed at how many calories you can eat and maintain!! You have an awesome metabolism. If I approach much more then 1500 I will gain. I had my basal metabolism checked about 8 months post op when I was at goal and I was told it was 1650 or somewhere near there (i forget the exact number). I don't think it was accurate because if I don't exercise and eat more then 1500 I gain.
  10. Yesterday I planned to eat just one meal. I ate dinner at about 6:30 which was just about 30 minutes shy of 24 hours since my last meal. I did drink 2 large cups of coffee and plenty of water. I ended up having a snack after the group meeting about 10 pm,so I am not sure it was really one meal, but I ended the day with only 774 calories consumed. I went for a run yesterday morning!!! This was my first time since knee surgery 2 months ago to repair a torn meniscus. It went pretty good. I only ran 2 miles and I definitely did not push myself. I am a little sore but the knee feels ok. I ran then walked, then ran. I felt the pull to keep running like I used to and it felt so dang good. I am praying I can keep going with no pain.
  11. I serve myself what I think is 2. If I just eat the eggs and no bacon I can eat 2. I ate about half of what was on that plate in the photo cause I ate 2 strips of bacon lol
  12. I am going to shake things up a bit and try to freak my body into moving down on the scale again. I am going to do OMAD today and maybe again on Wednesday and then do my normal 16/8 the rest of the week.
  13. I snapped a few photos of one of my go to breakfast for dinner meals. It is just 3-6 eggs from my chickens, diced onions, tomatoes, garlic, and turkey bacon. Very satisfying and filling.

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

Saturday 2/1/20 It was a hungry day for me. I actually ate breakfast before 12 which is something I almost never do. I ended up over my 30g net carb goal, but I have been under it all week so it is what it is. I couldn't resist the slice of toast with dinner. 6:30 am- coffee/ half-half 9 am- 1 cup unsweetned vanilla almond milk, Power crunch protein bar 10 am- coffee/half-half 1 pm- 1/2 chic-fila Spicey Southwest Salad with avocado lime ranch 7 pm- 2 scrambled eggs, onions, tomatoes, 2 slices turkey bacon, 1 slice Sara Lee Delightful Multigrain bread toasted with a pat of butter. 9 pm- coffee/ half-half Calories- 1243 Net Carbs- 36.9 Fiber 10.3g Protein- 58.9g Fat- 81.7g Glycemic Load-3.3
  15. It is hard to say. My guess is the doctor will decide the day of surgery? Maybe the worst will pass in the next 2 days.

Those were my favorite too!! I don't eat Ice cream anymore on a regular basis either. I might have a spoonful once or twice a year. My downfall is pies and breads. I keep those out of my house because they are much too tempting. I am determined to keep my type 2 diabetes under control without meds so I must keep my net carbs under 40g per day or my numbers start creeping up.

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

My weight is back to bouncing around. I think I am just going to weigh once per week on Monday mornings because it is so frustrating to me when I am 161 and then the next day I am 164. I know this is just how my body is. I can lose 4 pounds but sometimes it takes 7-10 days for it to hold there and stop going back up and then rinse and repeat for every loss I have. Yesterday 1/31/20 7:30 Am- Coffee/ half-half 12 pm- Italian Sausage with onions, green pepper/ spaghetti with cabbage for noodles 1 pm- coffee/ half-half 4 pm- 2 cheese sticks 7 pm- 1/2 Chic-Fil-A spicy southwest salad with avocado ranch dressing 8 pm- Coffee/ half-half Calories- 1112 Net Carbs- 21.5 Protein- 55g Fat- 76.5g Fiber-8.4g Glycemic Load- 2.8

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

Thank you for the welcome. I usually eat more for lunch and will sometimes have a cheese stick or two as a snack on the drive home from work. I wasn’t hungry for some reason yesterday and I have learned to just listen to my body because the days I eat more will tend to balance it all out ( at least I hope ) lol. I am a big coffee drinker. I have tried to cut back some, but that doesn’t usually last long. I eat in an 8 hour window between 12ish - 8 pm most days.

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

This thread is awesome. I am always amazed at the differences in number of calories and the types of foods that others eat and are able to maintain. I tried to introduce a higher carb level and eat mostly plant based about 7 months post op. After eating this way for about 3-4 months I felt my blood sugar levels were not as good so I decided to go back to what has always worked for me low carb, higher fat, and moderate protein levels. I stay away from processed foods and sugar as much as possible. I have learned that I need to track and weigh daily if I want to stay within my bounce range. I got down to 150 about 8-9 months post-op but I am currently at 161 working my way back down. My goal for this year is to hit 150 and maintain it with a 5 pound bounce. When you post your calories for the day do you subtract exercise? My tracker app links with my Apple watch and subtracts calories burned from my total. Yesterdays menu: 7 am- Coffee with half-half and splenda 10 am- Coffee with half-half and splenda 1 pm- Power Crunch protein bar 6 pm- Keto alfredo chicken bake, riced cauliflower 7 pm- Coffee with half-half and splenda Calories: 930 , Net Carbs: 17g, Protein: 42g, Fat: 58g I was low on protein but I wasn't hungry and couldn't get anything else in. I prefer to get at least 60g per day.
  20. I use a free app called Carb Manager. It make logging your foods easy and you can track your macros. Their website has a ton of useful information. Dr. Fung would be a good place to start for information on IF. I know there are YouTube videos with him discussing the subject. https://www.dietdoctor.com/intermittent-fasting/questions-and-answers I found this link which might be helpful.

Calling all vets- where are you

Thank you for the welcome. I am mostly walking and using my elliptical a couple times a week. I was really hoping to get back to running, but my doctor doesn't think this is a good idea unless I am prepared to have a knee replacement sooner rather then later. I was pretty slow the first 6 weeks and have just really got back to purposefully walking the past 2 weeks. So I just haven't done much to replace my running and I have just been stuck. I am now facing rotator cuff surgery on my left shoulder and I need to pull myself together and stop feeling like my body is falling apart. There are many people facing worse in their lives and I have much to be thankful for. I definitely don't want to let these injuries be the start of a slip back so the first thing I thought to do was get back here and read. The support is welcome and needed. I know what to do. I need to keep carbs under 50g a day and eat protein first. I need to get my calories under 1300 and get back into the habit of tracking and weighing myself daily. I got complacent when I was running because I could eat more carbs and still maintain a good blood sugar level and my weight stayed low without much effort. I don't want to go back to where I was 4 years ago so I am setting a goal of losing this extra 12 pounds over the next 2 months and then figuring out how to maintain at 150-155 with the level of exercise my body is comfortable with now.

Calling all vets- where are you

I was sleeved may 15th 2017. I was pretty active my first year post-op, but then life got busy with 2 new grand babies and traveling for work. I hit my goal weight about 8 months post op and I am usually within 10 lbs of my goal weight since then. I am currently about 12 pounds above where I want to be mostly because I am having a hard time adjusting to not being able to run. I had knee surgery 2 months ago and I am still having pain. I need to nip this now and cut back on calories until I can figure out where I need to be with less exercise.
  23. Hi @FluffyChix. It is so great to see you are still here helping people and you have reached your goal weight!!! Life got busy for me and I sort of dropped off the map for the past year and a half. I decided I should come back and see how some of my surgery pals are doing and hang around for some support and accountability. I find being almost three years out that I am able to keep my bounce weight in a 10-15 lbs range. I am usually in the 150-160 range, but this winter and holiday season I saw 165 on the scale. I have tightened up my diet and I always eat in an 8 hour window with a 16 hr fast. I can't run like I used to because of knee pain so I have been sticking to walking the past 6 months. I would like to keep my weight closer to the 150 end because I am so aware of how easy it would be to end up on that slippery slope. It is great to be here again and I am looking forward to making new friends.
  24. Three years later and I am still doing the 16:8 IF eating plan and loving it. I eat all my meals in an 8 hour window and then fast for 16 hours. I have been able to maintain my goal weight within a 15 pound up or down bounce and still controlling my type 2 with just diet and exercise.
  25. I have reached my first goal and want to focus on my body composition (lose a little more fat). I have started researching intermittent fasting and it seems like a very safe way to encourage the body to burn more fat, level blood sugar spikes, and lower insulin levels. I really like that you don't have to be eating a certain diet to take advantage of the benefits it has to offer. I am currently listening to the book "The Complete Guide to Fasting" by Dr. Jason Fung and Jimmy Moore. Have any of you tried this or are doing it long term after having WLS? Can you share your experiences? Thank you!!!
