Best way to Stop Losing Weight
Apple1 replied to Apple1's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes! This is so true. The quality of the carbs is the key. I have made it to 95g of carb, but that was an usually high day. I am pretty much 75-90g right now and I feel great. -

Maybe your electrolytes are out of balance? Try some potassium and or salt. Great job on fitting the size 10😄 -
I was listening to this great lecture on an introduction to WFPB diets on my ride into work this morning and I thought I would share it. There are some great case studies for people that changed their lives.

Thirsty all the time.

I think your electrolyte balance may be off. Talk to your doctor. Maybe a Gatorade zero would help. -
That looks yummy @Newme17 my dh would be tearing it up too!! I could only eat a 3oz portion of the tofu and about 3 bites of the pasta.
-
Ok here are the photos for the tofu dish. I took some as I was fixing it. I did use real cheese, but organic from pasture cows. I couldn't find any of the good vegan cheeses. I followed the recommendation of reviewers and froze the tofu for a few hours before cooking. I did not fry the tofu I baked it with an olive oil sprayed pan. I used some spinach in between layers. t was delicious 😋 my dh had seconds😃

Really hoping for some response with sound advice

Maybe you just need more time. Some people still need to take insulin even after surgery. I am not a doctor though so you should discuss this with him/her. -

That is because of your liver dumping sugar. It will dump more sugar then you would have eaten sometimes. So it is better to eat then let it dump. -
Too bad you are like 6-7 states away depending on the route..lol..

See I wonder about this also. Complex carbs do not behave the same way as refined carbs do, especially if they are high in fiber. They keep you full for a long time and for me haven't even caused head hunger. Maybe it is because I am in a good place mentally now, I don't know. -

My bs used to do the same thing before having WLS. Now I am golden. My bs hasn't gone above 115 after a meal since 3 days after my surgery!! My fasting are in the 70-85 range every morning! -

How long were you on insulin before having your surgery? I have read research that says the length of time you were diabetic and on insulin has a big effect on whether or not you are able to stop your medication completely. Less than 5 years seems to be the cut off point. Our livers store glycogen which will be released when our blood sugar goes down. Maybe you have not gone through all that your liver has stored yet. I was able to get off my diabetes meds right away, but maybe you just need some more time. I don't have any advice on the BP meds as I have never had high BP. Good luck and I hope you are able to get off the meds eventually. -
It's Coming Off! 😃😃😃

No apologies needed. I understand that for some people the sugar in fruit is a slippery slope. If that is true better to stay away. You may find that later on you are able to have some occasionally without a problem. My thinking is that having a serving of whole fruit is now my dessert, which is tons better than eating a slice of pie or other refined sugar treat I may have eaten in the past. -

easy healthy ice cream. Just take a frozen banana and some berries blend and eat. Yummy. -
I agree that there needs to be a balance between exercise and amount of calories. It is sometimes a hard balance to achieve when you are less then a year out from WLS. I am going through this now myself with wanting to increase my running mileage, but not able to eat much more then 1200 calories. Everyone's bodies respond differently though. I went and had my RMR tested and right now my metabolism does not appear to be negatively effected by the amount of exercise I am doing. I am still losing an average of 3 pounds per week eating 1000-1200 calories and running 15-20 miles a week.

Congrats on a great race!!! Heat worries me because I don't run well at all above 75 degrees. I always run in the early morning hours. This is why I am only going to run races in the Spring and Fall.

The sugar found in fruits is natural and when eaten with the fiber of the whole fruit it is good for you. We don't have to be afraid to eat whole fruits. Now juice is another animal all together. Juice concentrates the sugar and takes away the fiber. I stay away from most fruit juices. When I was first diagnosed type 2 I was afraid to eat fruit. I am so glad I can eat them now without guilt!! I tend to eat mostly berries, kiwi, watermelon, bananas, and grapes. I don't like peeling oranges..lol.. so I don't eat many of them. I use a ton of lemons and limes in my cooking. -

The fiber content per serving is 12g, so using the formula of 10 to 1 fiber to carb content. It has a good amount of fiber. Multiply the fiber content x 10 and if it is more than the carb it is a high fiber product. I am still not eating it though, because like I said, I don't care for dried fruit. -

This is a very good point. I always pair my berries with 4oz of yogurt which has some protein and fat. Honestly, I am amazed at how well my body processes carbs now. In the past if I ate say one baked potato, my BS would remain elevated for 3-4 hours and the rise was unacceptable 40-60 pts. Now I can eat basically anything and my bs behaves like a non-diabetic. I don't eat junk though, no way am I going down that road, but a serving of whole wheat pasta does not spike my BS and this is such a change for me.
