    Surgery was the EASY part

I have so much compassion for those of you dealing with food addictions. It really does get easier once you can eat solid foods. Once the NSC victories start piling up your motivation will keep you moving in the right direction. I know once I realized I could run there was no way I was going to do anything to sabotage my weight loss. Just stay focused on the finish line.

Really sorry to hear you are injured @jess9395. I can only imagine how much that sucks for you.

I agree. I am tall and in High School the basketball coach was always trying to get me to play, but I hate basketball. I think my long legs are great for running and I am not sure why I waited 49 years to start. I don't have curves. I am just all legs. I think I look most like a long distance runner.
  5. I am eating anywhere from 1000-1200 at 4 months post-op. I have always believed that gradually getting your calories up to 1200 is a good idea to keep your metabolism high. I honestly don't know for sure if this is scientifically true as I have read arguments both ways. i am still losing at a decent pace, 10.3 lbs average per month when you do the math. I am very active running 4-5 days per week.
  6. This is happening to me now. I have had two people tell me to ignore the BMI charts because I am definitely too skinny even though I haven't quite reached a healthy weight yet. I am just not listening to them. When my body is ready I will stop losing. I will be the judge of how small is too small.

    Proteinaholic by Dr Garth Davis

lol I discovered I really like tofu now that I know how to prepare it correctly. The cheese tortellini sounds yummy 😋 Now that cooler weather is here it is casserole and soup time. Looking forward to trying some new recipes.
  8. Well my official 4 month weight is 166.5 so I am down 88.5 from my highest and 41.5 since surgery. That is an average of 10.3 lbs per month. Not bad at all. I feel like the gains made in fitness and also in my diet are equally important and significant. I started out not even being able to run a mile to being able to run 4 miles non stop. I can maintain a 12:20 average pace for 2 miles. I am eating a WFPB diet 95% of the time and I feel 😊 great.
  9. When you do the math you have averaged 14.7 lbs per month post-op. That is above average and a praise worthy accomplishment 😊 Onederland is just around the next bend... I'm so happy for you!!

    Trying on smaller sizes

I have a bunch of Fall/Winter stuff in my closet that I am not gonna be able to wear. I blew right past XL size this summer. I tried some on and they are too big. I am a little sad because I had been looking forward to fitting back into them. I am going to have to go shopping for size large/medium tops soon. Now I'm trying to decide if I should just bag them all up and do another closet purge.
  12. I originally thought I wanted to get to 150, but I revised my goal to 160 when I realized my size 8 jeans were already feeling a little loose at 168. I think a size 6 looks good on my frame and any lower would be a little small. In the end I guess my body will decide.
  13. Sorry I wrote that last post. Deleted because I feel dumb bearing my frustrations to the group. Ignore if you read it. I'm feeling better now.
  14. So sorry you are feeling sick @Newme17. I think your plan is a good one. Rest up and feel better.

    Bariatric Vegetarian Life

I doubt she was counting on just the bone broth to meet all of her daily protein needs? It can be in addition to all of other things you eat that also have protein. For instance, I might add some tofu to a dish to bump up the levels of protein for that one meal, but I would still drink my shake and or eat other things throughout the day to meet my goals.
  16. I sure hope you feel better soon. I am thinking about taking a sick day tomorrow also. I just need to catch up on some stuff at home and I am all caught up at work.

    Going crazy and need advice

I really like the last paragraph of that article: "Bill Phillips told me through an assistant that weightlifting is better for fat loss because "each new pound of muscle tissue increases chronic total energy expenditure/metabolism" and that "aerobic exercise alone does not offer this benefit." However, a sizable body of research shows that intense aerobic activity like running burns twice as many calories per hour as hard weightlifting, and the metabolic boost from added muscle is not nearly enough to compensate for this difference." I"ll keep right on running..lol.. I know I should do some lifting a couple days a week, but for some reason I just can't get motivated to do it.
  18. If your urine is dark in color and your peeing less. I think you get tired and light headed also. I hope you aren't dehydrated. Are you having trouble getting your fluids in?
  19. You could probably log it on your phone. I used to hate that time of the month I was always bloated!! So glad I'm done with all that. I feel for you and I am hoping the scale moves before the 15th. It would be awesome to be in Onederland by 4 months post-op

    Walking - How Much?

I was walking 2-3 miles 4 days post op, but that is just what I did. Everyone has a different energy level and you should listen to your body. I did tire myself out a little trying to do too much to soon. Ease into exercise and make sure you can stay hydrated. I am an active person so it was harder to stay still and let my body heal. I started running about 5 weeks post-op when I knew I could drink more fluids easily. I did not run in the heat of the day to avoid any problems with hydration.
  21. Just about 4 months post-op and within 7 pounds of my goal. This morning I ran my fastest 2 miles at 12:20 average pace. I run faster when my dh runs with me. I haven't decided if this is a good thing or not..lol.. I do enjoy the company :)

I've come a long way in these 4 short months and it has been better than I imagined it would be. I love that I enjoy running and I am eating healthier then I ever have in my life. I feel hope for an active long life now where before I imagined myself dealing with the complications of having type 2 diabetes as I aged. Life is such a blessing and I am enjoying each new day!!

  22. That is awesome!!! Congrats on your success.
  23. I took 2 weeks off and I think that was perfect. The 2nd week was more about mastering getting my fluids in and trying to get the constipation issue solved. The first week back was tiring the first couple of days, but after that no problem at all.

    Going crazy and need advice

I think you have to experiment and see what works for you. Some people can exercise eating 600-800 calories and still lose weight, others need to bump up their calories a little.
