Is it possible to lose TOO much and be rejected?
kbellakat replied to mareana's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They usually go by your recent documented w dr ... I was worried about that too because I'm right at 40 BMI.. before losing .. because tend to below 40 when I try to lose weight even 5 or 10 pounds.. I've been diagnosed w sleep apnea & now fluctuating high blood pressure.. that's what caused me to look into the sleeve surgery -
Not sure what to expect

I am a Kaiser patient just going to my first informational meeting April 1... I found out different kaisers have different requirements.. after the 2 hr information meeting then schedule 2 hr orientation meeting then choose your surgeon.. then dr sets your goal to lose .. weight .. usually requires losing5 to 10% Pre op weight.. depending on your BMI.. ? psychological evaluation .. also Kaisers require 4 to 12 nutrition option classes.. before getting approval as surgery date.. -
I did this home sleep study to find not too Scientific when you only put a little monitor on your finger lol ... they say severe sleep apnea and I've been given a CPAP machine... mind you I was tested 2012 with mild apnea and I refuse to get a machine back then same test .. lol I have Kaiser and this is been my record since then 2012 .. they say if I go for an overnight test will probably come out more accurate and I probably would still come up with severe apnea test positive at all .. that is so crazy .. will they require you to be retested to be approved for surgery?? BTW ..I pretty much been around 40 BMI with both tests ..

Thanks for the update for Fremont! Yes Sounds like they are backed up since you've had to wait since February . That's really not to bad tho . I've started trying w my pre-op weights cos yes that's what I was told is exactly the way you explained it .. my primary told me let's get your weight documented before you get to bariatrics . I have heard that all the team of Doc there are really good .. yes I was thinking of going w Dutta or Hann but I'd take first available when the time comes who knows when that will be. BTW ... Where exactly is the support group at Fremont tomorrow?
-
Btw I have heard Dr Hann named mentioned here & hear he's usually kinda busy so if you got a consultation w him for next week that's good .. that's all I know about him . Good luck [emoji106][emoji256] Keep me posted ok

How's it going for you ? How was your experience at Kaiser & recovery time ? How much have you lost so far ?
-
Wow that's good guess it's not always 10% ....
-
Hi there How was orientation at Kaiser? Question??... did you have your weight documented by your Dr who referred you before going to info & orientation classes .. just wanted to find out cos I was told at Fremont office (which he highly encouraged to do ) would use that as starting weight & anything u lose before meeting the surgeon/ nutritionist would count toward 10% pre-op weight ... is that true for you ? I've been trying to work on it .. being I had to wait a few weeks before this first info class ..
-
Yes for sure let me know how goes next week at your orientation if there's any new information OK
-
Thanks for letting me know.[emoji4] I'm going next week on April 1 Saturday We just may be on same surgery schedule at Fremont ... Nice to know we are all in it together.
-
Hi Thanks for the update .. i've been reading everything too that I can find online as well . I'm just getting started. My first informational meeting is Saturday April 1st ... i'll let you know how it goes and how busy it is there.

That's awesome!! Congrats...!!

Oh ok .. that's good to hear you got it all done in the beginning.. then on to the 12 classes .. you are so close ... !!! What was your starting BMI? / weight ? I'll find out soon enough if they are the same requirements . I've been talking to kaiser bariatric office & told me after 2hr info class .. I schedule a 2hr orientation class ... then schedule to meet the dr & nutritionist.. next psych evaluation.. when I'm 5lbs away from 10% of pre weight loss ... then I wait for approval when I get to pre weight loss off .. about 22lbs ... So far I'm down almost 10 & it will count towards my documented previous weight I was told. .. I just had all labs done march 2nd w a physical. I'm sure they may want to evaluate my health again before they approve it. I'll let you know if there is more to it .. I was thinking all Kaiser bariatrics is all the same.. We can be Kaiser bariatric buddies !! Thanks for sharing!
-
That sounds like your almost there .. yeah !! That's great ! I'm having my info class April 1st then .. I found out today that only need to have orientation class then they will schedule an appointment w dr & nutritionist to discuss pre-op weight/approval... 5lbs from pre-op weight approval I have psychology eval .. sounds slightly different in my area ..meaning no extra 12 classes. It's still a big process to go through I imagine it will go quickly tho .. I can't wait ! let's keep in touch I like to hear about your progress.
-
That's great!! .... congrats! I too found out I will qualify for surgery thru kaiser .. I was excited & scared as well... starting out on April 2nf. I'm so glad to have found this group !!!

I'm going to Fremont Kaiser...I live in San Leandro .... I'm new to this process how long did it take for you to get approved by Kaiser ? I'm going to first information meeting April 2nd ... I talked w Bariatrics Dept then he gave me the informational binder.. this nice office guy explained the process & advised me to get started w pre-op weight since I got documented by my dr who referred me . I wasn't aware that I need to take classes as well .
